Hi Darcy, mate just emptied another 75mm out and that makes about 475mm in the last 3 weeks...... Springwood area Brisbane. I think we've had enough  for a while........

Spending time at Marani at my daughters, just outside of Mackay. Lots of the wet stuff Darc, Pioneer river quite high. Some winds in town took out a few trees. Nothing like 08 yet and hope it doesn't. Heading to Melb next week (Pakenham) for a bit of dryness, never though I'd say that!

Alison no I haven't. I tried phoning a few times a day or so ago but no answer. The area they are in is pretty safe I think. Once you've seen the enormity of that frickin' Fairburn dam, to think the water is now heading towards 5 metres above the spillway is bloody scarey considering Emerald is what lay on the otherside :o will try again shortly ;)

I can see alot of stuff being transported to Brisbane in the next few months that will be auctiond off....poor buggers...I hope the insurance companies cough up. Makes you wonder how much the pricks will put there premiums up, the Vic'o fires last year and now this....and ofcourse they have to make there huge profits dont they!

Post by: DR on January 02, 2011, 07:09:48 am
Keep in mind any barn finds you may discover in central QLD will probably now have extensive water damage. Ray posted me down a donor TS400 engine he'd found after the last flood 2008, unbeknown to anyone it all looked good externally but when I opened it up it was oxidized and corroded beyond any repair. I think Firko got the clutch spring retaining bolts but there wasn't much else that was useable. It a shrine in the garden now 8) Just something to keep in mind is all ;)

Would just like to thank everyone who was concerned for our welfare during the flood, fortunatley we came out of it better than a lot of others who have lost everything. Spoke to Darcy in Rocky he is fine. Also had friend come in from Longreach way its raining pretty steadily feel sorry for the people out west who are running low on food supplies hopefully someone will do a food run for them asap.
The rain is starting to fall heavily so preparing for round two hopefully it won't eventuate. Once again THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR CONCERN we really appreciate your thoughts and well wishes.
Title: Re: the rain
Post by: DR on January 06, 2011, 05:35:18 pm
nothing in comparison to those poor buggers out west but we've just had another flood here today :o

Fortunately before christmas I bought home 3 more bikes I'd stored at good ol' Mum's. I was worried about them for some reason and bloody glad I did. Only 3 went partially under this time..enough to get into the engines via the low pipes, slip in exhaust flanges and carb (no airbox on the GTS185 twin so it's copped a bellyfull, DT100 okay but no mag cover and believe it or not, an '06 Kymco Bug 50 scooter that I'd nearly finished doing a major repair job ::))

A victim of the central Qld 2008 floods it was under water for 3 weeks then sat for 2 years behind a shed unmoved from where it all but perished. I've never seen a bike of any type in such a stinking rusting mess..even the instruments were packed full of silt and mud and nothing at all looked serviceable except the handgrips. Serious!!

Cut to the end, I'd done a number on it and had only to repair some electrical connections and doodads when good ol' Huey decided it was time to send down another lot at lunchtime..now it has another bellyfull ::) gotta see the irony :D

Slightly off thread maybe, but We've been sitting over here in The West watching the flood situation developing and can't believe it's still raining.  :o      With the scale of the thing it's hard to know where to start, but should we be thinking of passing a hat around for any of the VMX Guys or relatives directly affected ?

My heart goes out to those affected. One side issue will be that you can bet that the Lake Gairdner salt lake trials in March probably won't happen. That lake is like a sump for any rain in western or south western Queensland. I'll bet the lakes under water within a month or two....if it isn't already.

Ross, It's on it's way believe me .
The flood we had here last week has reached St George.
Got another one moving through here right now and Sun Water is dumping the water out of Leslie Dam as fast as they can.
So the Darling is looking good.
If I lived on the Condamine I would,nt be cleaning up just yet.

The shires/governement need to take in these flood plains and maybe stop allowing to build suburb after suburb on them. These floods I believe happened in the 70's and 99.Everytime we land in Brisvegas I expect to park up on the mangroves  ;D

Yeah Stewie,
I think with another 238mm of rain falling in the last 24 hours just upstream of Green Park at Elaman Creek, the bridge is probably happily on its way to Gympie.  For those that don't know, Elaman Ck is the headwaters of the Mary River (which is already in full flood) and eventually feeds Gympie and Maryborough.  I think we'll be searching for that bridge for a while, unless it gets hung up on something.

AND IT'S STLL RAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers.

This is fuc*ing awful. I've got rellys in Toowoomba who are on high ground and missed the wall of water but they have friends and inlaws who live in Gatton who aren't returning calls. The panic in my cousins voice this morning was a bit alarming. I've had emails from my mate Mike in California and from Mark (Weekend Warrior) Thompson in Cincinatti checking to see If I was OK (they're a bit clueless on Oz geography ::)) and they both reckon the Queensland floods were the lead item on most of the TV news services and have been for days.

We've gone from 10 years of drought to this in a blink, Australia sure is a unique country. Good luck to those of you who will be effected by this as it moves towards Brisbane and Northern NSW.

The EXPERTS on the news said that a 1974 could NEVER happen again in Bris.
That Wivenhoe Dam has saved Bris. ???
Is it just me or am I just getting old  (and grumpy).
Both Wivenhoe and Somerset are full so where is the water going to go now?

Another expert said that the silt coming out of the Fitzroy will kill the REEF like it did in 2001. ??? ???
What did it grow back? ( then it will grow back again)
Is it still dead ? ( then it will still be dead after this )
Either way what is the POINT of the statement?

Am I paying these halfwits??

This wind will kill anything if it had a 500+ metre spark front.

How lucky was the bloke holding on to the tree to stop being swept away that was rammed by the floating van? If you haven't seen it, watch for it on the news, he's a lucky fella that the tree was strong enough to resist the weight of the van. A fraction earlier it'd mowed another tree over like it wasn't there.

I hope all in the QLD floods are ok. What can you say? It looks frightening from here, best wishes to anyone affected.
We get the amount of rain QLD is getting but we don't have the massive catchments to collect it all.

Popeye is out saving Tanyas bikes and stuff-all gone to my place for a stay at Ripley. Gave my new ute to Lama this morning so he could go and help-can't get them on the phone either so that could be the end of that.
My kids are home safe-last I heard, but Debs sister is about to go under. The daughter (Nudge)& boyfriend have taken his D-Max to get her. I had to tell him last night that the D-Max was out of the Dakar but the Great Wall was up to 20th-he nearly spewed :D :D

It sounds unbelieveable in Qld. I know Toowoomba well and can't imagine that wall of water. A friend in Gympie tells me she's isolated in a newer suburb - all roads cut by flooding. My mum and dad are staying here in Canberra but luckily their home in Maryborough is well away from any flooding. But the business district will have copped it.

I've been reading that Wivenhoe is well over capacity and shedding water like crazy, while the flood containment area is now over half full.

From what I can see on the radar it's still bloody raining!

Hmmmm....  Flood gates full open.  Major flooding and rainfall in the lockyer valley.  King Tide (?).  Major rainfall in Brisbane.
Hate to say it doesn't look good for Brissie  :o :o.  If I was a gambling man I'd be betting on higher than '74 levels.  Make sure you stay high and dry Brisbanites - take care.

I'm surprised they don't shut the CBD down ,as its less of a concern and SES resources can be utlised else where.

Queensland, perfect one day….
Sorry guys

Even those not in flood danger will find themselves off work which can make life hard, the bank charges don’t go on holidays.
The disruption to life sounds a bit like our fire scenario of a couple of years ago.

Never underestimate the power of mother nature, she can be a real bitch sometimes.

I sincerely hope you guys can get through this okay.
Don’t be taking unnecessary risks, were only meant to take them while on a motorbike.

247, The cows are fine-or were when last seen. Some others out west have been found 40k down stream with only one lost.(to dumgeon for that one :D.)
Jacky was on the list to be saved and one of the BMCC lads had a truck out there for her and Gary to load up so nothing I could do to help.
Last word from Popeye was tanyas stuff is all moved up or moved out.
oh and Lama brought my ute back so all is not lost.....

The Gatton water and Bne river levels don't affect us in this part of town ;) unless it floods with biblical proportions that is..never say never but fingers crossed. Isn't there a Bike museum out Gatton way? Wonder if that was inundated yesterday also :(

Hey Darcy
Stuck in Raymond Terrace trying to get home from Melb. Not looking good for a day or so as Pacific Hwy closed Grafton to Ballina and inland rout worse. Daughter stuck at Brisbane Hospital doing a "few" double shifts as  nurses having trouble gettin in. (She's spewin as she was in!). Inntersting that the Docs were the first all out before lunch today. Son has loaded bling onto ute for the just in case but I think we will be right. How you getting on in Rockvegas? I thought I left all this floodin stuff behind me in 08 in Mackay.

Caught up with Peter Tolley in melb and I'm in love with the 59 triumph Speedway sidecar. Even colored matched to the oldies and it flies!!!

I flew into Brisbane at 9am and headed to the CBD where the river was rising fast. Taxi driver said that in the time he'd driven out to the airport and back it was visibly higher.
By the time I left at 1pm to fly back to Sydney, the river was about to top the banks. It's big.
Some of the customers I was with said they have all been ordered home and nobody to come in for the next few days. Traffic heading out was massive. It was still raining when I left and they were about to open the dam, I believe.
If you visit Brisbane, pack gum-boots and a canoe!

Jackie Mac and partner Gary had to be rescued as their house went under. Not good for them. The shed with bikes is under and the house is either under now or soon will be. Sounds like they are totally wiped out but insured at least. And they are safe and in good spirits. She said it came from behind them, as they were watching the river rise and blocked their exit. Had to get out via their boat. Unbelievable.

Yea, I cant believe it Doc....blue skies, not a cloud in sight. Over night at Jimboomba where I live the Logan river has snuck up a couple of metres (didnt rain last night aswell) blocking the Mt Linsay highway more at Jimboomba creek with back up water, so was the long way around to work. Will be getting the boys to put most of our tools on the mezzanine today to prepare incase the workshop gets flooded this afternoon or toomorrow as we cop it from the Oxley creek which has already flooded Rocklea. Mother nature is definately a female.....unpredictable and doesnt give a shit who's in the way. If the rain stops for the next few days it will save alot of Brisbane as the ground has absorbed as much water as it can take so now it's just running off the top. The roads are like swiss cheese theres that many holes. Not a good way to start the year. I just hope no one else gets killed or injured.

just spoke to Louise, Geoff udys wife and they are all well at this point. geoff is out on a quad looking for lost people around Grantham and Withcott-about 70 or more missing.
The new Toowoomba shop flooded but they had the quads and stufff all out and the Gatton shop appears to be ok at the moment so some good news.
The water is lapping at my workshops back carpark so that means Vern Graysons welding shop is under water and they say it will come up another 3 metres with the high tide and expect another 3 meters on top of that tomorrow, again at high tide.
Should be safe here so I will head home soon to see how they are.

Jackie mac and Garys house will be under by now, both cars will be gone , gary had his bikes in the shed as long as the water doesnt push the wall out they should be there. The main furniture was removed from the house, gary had his ute loaded with his bikes, jackie had her car loaded with all electrical gear, then decided to stay half an hour after the furniture truck got out to finish a few things, and thats all it took, they couldnt get out, jack left her car ,gary through the bikes back in the shed , grabed the tinne (no oars ) 2x shovles and went for it,they where picked up by the cops at the end of there street and taken to Ipswich, They are both safe and as well as you could be.

Lets this be a warning to others and just get out of there before its too late. Better to leave early with a few possesions than to hang around a bit longer to collect more but only end up loosing all your possessions, getting stranded or even worse. I think the death toll is only going to rise. I havent seen a update on Brisbane for the past few hours but they said its going to be worse than 74. I saw footage of Ipswitch today and complete houses were under water with just tips of roofs showing :o

Vics are apparently goin to cop it today and the next few days, Kyneton in the centre of the state was hit 7.00pm last night with flash flood, not sure on damage at this stage. Weather forecast is for heavy rain, flash flooding widespread and gale force winds. Hope it changes...still pales in insignificance when compared to what our QLD friends have been hit with. Not to forget WA either, coping with wildfires. I believe the WA fires were deliberately lit in SEVEN different spots. If found the offender should be hung and gutted and left to rot.

With Jackie Mac being a photographer and knowing how they're pack rats keeping everything, I hope Jackie managed to save her photo negs, prints and old school film archives. The digi stuff is most probably safe in a computer but the old school stuff takes up a shitload of room.  I was looking through my own archives this morning and I realised he many thousands of shots I''ve got and I'm not a proper photographer. It took us a whole day to move Bill Forsyths archives recently so even if Jackie has 5% of Bills stuff, it'll still be heaps.

It doesn't seem a very important thing when you consider she and Gary have lost a lot more but I'm sure she'll agree that her photos are an important part of her life and therefore irreplacable.

I grew up on the edge of the Plenty river, it used to get floods every 5 years or so. We were well above the water line but Dad always had to rush down to save the pump.
I was always amazed at how when the water went down there would be a car body left in the rock pools. (Usually stolen & dumped upstream)
Next flood it would be a different car body in the same place.
And this was only a small river.
Any body that’s ridden through a swollen creek will understand the power of moving water.

pretty sure Shorncliffe is okay Leith. A fair way from the bne river mouth and not connected. If they live near the creek then like me they may have had some minor flooding in the initial downpour weeks ago with the big tides pushing it up but otherwise they should be totally unaffected by the Wivenhoe runoff.

The only thing I didnt see floating down the river was any Rare VMX stuff. I had a look at work today and the flood stopped at our street, a 100 metres away where about 50 brand new Hino's up to there windscreens...all the diesil floating away (you could smell it), another 50 metres and it was covering to the roofs of the buildings...50 more metres and it was up to the top of the traffic lights....scary shit watching water rise like that...it was like a bathtub filling (TMBill wont have seen that), before I left on Wednesday night it was rising at a rate of 200mm in 20 minutes...and we would be at least 10 km's from the rivers closest point. When you drive a couple of k's away you would think it's just another normal summers day in Brisbane and nothing was wrong.Pete, we coped about 500mm through the workshop, got 95% of everything up out of the way.

Popeye was helping Tanya, Hittatrees passenger as her whole joint went under at Fig Tree pkt, got all her bikes out( so no VMX stuff floating down said river) but petrol powered pressure washer is under and lawn mower is safely in my shed  - bit of a slip-up there.
I just need some power(electrics) so I can get back to work and earn enough to keep the Wasp functioning. We missed the water by a meter or so at the back of the workshop- I offered the EML to the Gods as a sacrifice but they told me it was too unreliable to be an idol and cast it back on me. Maybe I could hook it to 240v to get the spark reliable-hang on, I've got none of that even......

I was back cleaning today and after I'd had enough I went for a drive around the neigbourhood for a sticky beak. Pretty devastating, it looks like that sunarmi a few years ago in Asia....theres rubbish piled up everywhere. Rad hard-chroming where totally submerged so if you have a job in there at the moment I would be patient about contacting them for a week or so. Theres still no power in our area.I have had alot of friends contact me about helping to clean up but since we have it under control I have steered them to help someone who needs it more than me....which is alot of people....it's amazing how many people are out there helping each other and they dont even know them....NSW are gonna get smashed 3 nil in the state of origin again this year....QLD spirit ;)

Shite, I was going to call Rad Shockies for a fork rebuild last week but I thought he might have been in it up to his knees. Will have to wait a couple of weeks now.
Take care in the mud you lot, I have got a terrible guts ache and bad sneezes at the moment proably from some bug in that muck, and it's greazier than a pork chop to drive on.
Speaking of pork chops, how many new Australians do you see lining up to help out in the lines of volunteers/ not many from my count of tv coverage and only one or two asians. Count them next time it's on the news.

Got back into the house today :o :o :o the ceiling was on the floor, along with 3 inches of mud, the place was a shit fight (can I say that on the forum) funny thing the cars were in the exact same spot we left them in, our property was untouched by large floating objects, we think the trees around the house may have prevented that, the shed hmmm ugly! but Gaz got on to the bikes straight away. Took heaps of piccies unfortunately can't find the attachments to download to the computer, I think I grabbed the wrong bag ::). We salvaged the little mans (grandson) teddy bears and we also found his wallet with his pocket money still in it  :D ;D clothes, well thats a real problem, looks as though I'll have to go shopping :D ;D killed a brown snake, and was fed by our little angel Denise, what a day.

Hi , the flood in Norman Park got within 6 feet of the garage, All the workshop had been emptied the day before so no loss or wet stuff, just stinking mud /sewage through the lawn and hedge out the front , My unlucky neighbours had floodwater all through the houses , spent the last couple of days water blasting and ripping out wall boards, and shoveling mud ,no sparks for two days but we had gas water and stoves, just need to empty the spare bedrooms , full of bike parts, now , and restock the workshop, but that can be later ,
Will catch up with Gazza and Jac tomorrow,

Interesting admission on the news tonight.
The powers to be admitted that Wivenhoe Dam had 2ft to go to the safety plugs .
Had they let go then things would have ended differently.
I wondered about the water level when watching the video of the dam.
Looked a bit high .

All OK with me Brent ;) Elmore is on the higher sided bank (about three full metres which is pleasing) of the Campaspe river. Rochester is 14Kms down stream and has much lower river banks. These floods are coming from the overflowing spillway and controlled releases of the huge dam of  Lake Eppalock . Seems unbelievable that that very same dam lake was 14 months ago at .6  (Yes  .6) of capacity!!!! Thank you all so much for your concerns and cheers tim754.  Please donate something to flood relief ;)

This link shows our roof, our block is the one that looks like a triangle at the end of Keith Street, it was taken on the 13th, the floods had already started to recede, if you zoom in you can see my car floating :o, it appears it was the tree that stopped it from escaping. Yesterday was a huge day thanks to Glenn and Michelle Wollenweber, Michael and Leonie Bamford, Tony and Barb Smith, Brad Van Barrelo, and Mege and Greg Miar what a fantastic bunch, heaps got done no slackers thankyou all. The salvo's came around and provided us with lunch, and then in the afternoon the red cross turned up with  boxes of stuff, toiletries and things, strangers offering help was constant throughout the day.   Garaham and Denise have been with us all the way through this, Denise has either been right beside me up to her neck in it, and if not beside me on the phone to make sure we're okay, The world really is a wonderful place, and I feel blessed to have such wonderful people in my life ;)

I hope that everyone down south made it to dry land and are safe and well.

To those that are lost, I pray that you will be found
To those that have lost loved ones or friends, my heart goes out to you,
forever in our thoughts.

MA's to hold Moto Rodeo for Flood Relief
Posted: Friday, 21st January, 2011 : 11:45 AM - - 1,334 Reads
As water begins to recede in many devastated areas in both Queensland and around the Nation, the Riders' Division of Motorcycling Australia (MA) is preparing to hold three charity Motorcycle Rodeo's in: Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.

19 February 2011 - VIC - State Motorcycle Sports Complex - Broadford
5 March 2011 - SA - Tailem Bend Motorsport Centre
27 March 2011 - NSW - Eastern Creek Raceway

The Rodeo's will consist of Motorcycle Gymkhana events, games and precision riding displays; are available for riders aged from seven years and over, and are open to all skill levels.

sounds like good old fashioned FUN

Just got back from an Aussie trip, and was impressed by the clean up efforts and spirit of all involved in Brisbane.
I am however a little perplexed by the Gillard Gov'ts proposed flood levy tax via medicare. Is the Australian Federal Govt that tight for funds??Perhaps they should defer the broadband roll out and spend it on something more pressing????

After living in Oz for 8 years up until 2007 and working for Aussie companies (and hence visiting often),I find it staggering that the Federal Govt has to increase Medicare to finance the rebuild. But I guess the $900 per person Xmas present in 2009, siphoned some cash out of the piggy bank ::).

This tax has nothing to do with the donations people have made, that money is for the people you have been affected by the flood.
This tax is a once-off for reconstruction of vital public infrastructure.  One way or another we will all have to pay for it.
It does not matter if the PM has Red hair or big ears ::).

Thats right NSR,
Gillard could make her mark, Fix the flood areas, Build the Dams, make the pipelines or aquaducts from nth to south to west to support our farms. Cancel the $40 billion NBN and spend wisely on Rebuilding Flood areas.

What do you mean fix, the flood area covered about 25 towns to fix most of them [to never flood] they would have to be moved.
You could build all the dams you want if they are full and it keeps raining what then.
Or you could build flood mitigation dams which will have to remain empty until needed then you hope it stops raining.
The NBN is another issue, but I think you will find the farmers want it.
I want it all rebuilt better then before and so people can get on with life.

I wote this, then thought why bother.  It's all Gillards and Blighs fault. Yeah that's better.

It does not matter if the PM has Red hair or big ears ::).
Aw come on NSR we all know that and nothing said here will make the slightest difference to the outcome, where,s your sense of fun.

Keep up with the news - some relocating is already planned.
The NBN is funded with our tax payers money and now we are paying more tax for these terrible floods .If you cant see the connection , its about our money and how the Gov use's it,  get it?

We don't have all the answers to all the problems or I guess we wouldn't even be having these discussions. It's a pity that we only work out that we got it wrong after its to late to fix it. Having said that, I do think the Governments of the last ten years or so have spent far to much of our money porkbarrelling, lining their own pockets and slagging each other off as a distraction from the fact that they do not have a clue how to deal with some of the monumental problems that our society is facing today. To name just a couple, Law and Order, Health, Illegal Immigrants, unsustainable financial structures and the fact that we have a lot less control than we think we do over many of the events of late, particularly weather events. And now just for fun Townsville is staring down the possibility of a direct hit from a Cyclone. Apart from that life is good.  ;D

the saddest part of it all i have a scanner in my ute can listen to police and fire and so on and when the wall of water came down from toowoomba through the lockyer valley and lockyer creek the fire brigade were more interested in getting there own out rather than evacuating.some of them had more than 2 hours notice.maybe there was a reason behind it but i heard them warning there own at least 2 hours before it hit some of the towns in the lockyer valley.just haven't posted this early as my phone and internet got knocked out by a lightning strike on 16th december, one of the kids was closing a window and got zapped as it hit no injuries only got it back onlast thursday.cheers gary

Build the Dams twice as big and keep them to a max of half full, therefore the dam serves both purposes. And for gods sake educate the dude who controls the flow, would seem that not as many homes would have copped it if the dude on the gates pushed the button at the right time, Its a fine line between saving water and flood but they got it too wrong. This only has to happen over the next decade or so. Maybe some farmers do want the NBN, but it will not be too useful if there is no water for them... I have no prob paying more tax to help QLD, hope they get the balance correct between public infrustructure and private...

Yes so it seems. I have bo problem personally with a little extra tax either - as long as it gets used for the intended purpose and efficiently.
Its interesting though that the Gov. gives out our tax payers money in foreign aide when similar natural disasters happen overseas but when it happens here they suddenly need to impose a tax on us to pay for the "domestic aide" ??? Oh I get it now.

If these figures are true, this is a real worry.

Why wasn't there any new tax'es when these amounts were so generously given away these idiots called politicians & just as bad bureaucrat'es have no idea they all ride the gravy train for as long as they can they get were they get to with no qualifications or experience to end up controlling and making the decisions they make is ludicrous and as far as foreign aid they would rather give big chunks of tax payer's money away with out hesitation or conditions, when Australians caught up in disaster and hardship are made to jump through hoops for very small percentage of what appears to given away overseas with out question????

Yes I have real issue's with the way they spend the money and the way they run to the Australian public to top up the account every time they screw up like spending in the wrong area's and not having contingencies for these kind of disasters(floods, fire, drought)

"dont get me started"(may be too late) ;D

#8

Like many Australians we wonder what the hell is wrong with this government and when the balance is going to be focused on our needs as a priority. Anyone watching those people in flood zone had to be touched or be made of stone if they were not,

FLOOD VICTIMS?

THE TOP EIGHT COUNTRIES THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT GAVE YOUR TAX DOLLARS TO IN  2010-2011

Indonesia $458,700.00 million

Papua New Guinea $457,200,00 million

Solomon Islands $225,700.00 million

Afghanistan $123,100.00 million

Vietnam $119,800.00 million

Philippines $118,100.00 million

East Timor $102,700.00 million

Cambodia $64,200.00 million

TOTAL = $ 1,669,000,000.00  -  given away in 52 weeks

..but wait there’s more.

·         Australia provides approximately 150,000 tonnes of food aid every year—;about $65 million—to Bangladesh, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Sudan and Chad

·

·         In 2005 John Howard committed Australia to double Australian aid to about $4 billion a year by 2010

·

·         In 2010-2011 the Australian Government plans to spend almost $4.4 billion on development assistance

·

·         In 2008 the Australian community contributed $812.19million to non-government organisations

And now Gillard will give $500,000,000.00 for Indonesia’s Islamic schools

which are largely moderate in outlook but there have been pockets of radicalism that

have produced terrorists in Indonesia, most notably the cleric Abu Bakar Bashir’s school in Ngruki, central Java, where some of the Bali bombers studied.

SO….. Ask your local member  how come 2010 Queensland flood victims get $1 million  ?

When insurers, such as Allianz and CGU, provide cover for storm damage but exclude flood from their home and contents policies.

YES THIS A BLOODY INSULT TO THE AUSTRALIAN AND QUEENSLAND PEOPLE WHO NEED IT THE MOST SO IT IS ABOUT TIME THE GOVERMENT STARTED LOOKING AFTER THERE OWN BACK YARD AND FORGET THE REST FOR A LONG TIME THIS IS BULL SHIT???

Yeah I was reading an insurance company assessment and they mentioned in their damage report that less than 50% in the flooded areas had the full home contents and car. Willis island is the weather station out off Cairns and its 4 keepers were evacted late yesterday-just as well as it stopped working as the storm went over this morning-the equipment has been blown away!!

and it was below the water line, so major part was flooding due to failure of levy.

However that is not to understate the seriousness of the cyclone at all. With 20 feet of storm surge and 290 km/hr winds good time to get the hell out of dodge.

All good here, although I still have no power. I do have my generator thumping away though , to run my fridge & TV (also my neighbours fridge & freezer as well). I have to say that was a very scary experience, with the wind coming in bursts that sounded like a jumbo jet taking off at the end of my street & my house shuddering & groaning. hehe... MX250s quote from May

Quote
Last night's ABC News reports that it is predicted that the El Nino effect will be 'normal' for the next few years and extreme weather conditions are not expected

What's BOM reckon now?

Quote
Conditions in the tropical Pacific Ocean are consistent with the early stages of a late-forming La Niña event. If the current cooling persists, as is expected, then 2011-12 will be recorded as the second La Niña in as many years. Current observations and model predictions indicate that this La Niña is likely to be weaker than the strong 2010-11 event.

La Niña events raise the odds of above average rainfall across northern and eastern Australia, but do not guarantee it. Oceans surrounding Australia’s north are currently close to or cooler than average, which is less favourable for widespread rainfall than at this time in 2010, when they were much warmer than normal. Similarly, the latest observations from the Indian Ocean show a positive dipole event. A positive dipole event increases the chance of below average rainfall over south-eastern and central Australia during spring.

Get used to muddy events huh?
