Tech Talk / Re: RT2 Yamaha retro fitting CDI?
« on: November 18, 2014, 08:04:12 PM »
Find the 1977 on DT250 / 400 and you'll get the full lighting coil with similar plugs to go straight into your two power supply  plugs. 1977 /1978 IT 250 /400  systems work also but you only get a single wire power supply (about 20-25W). Still works for lights but no battery charge circuit. I think you can fit the DT lighting coil in the IT but not sure about the width of the rotor. Backing plates are all the same for DT/IT/YZ 1977/78. Rotor for YZ is narrower (lighter) than the DT but not sure about IT ones.
You'll also need the cdi unit. (YZ/DT/IT will all work just make sure the wires are still in good condition at the base of the CDI box.) Everything is pretty straight forward to plug and play.

I run a 1978 or 79 DT250 flywheel and YZ400 cdi on my RT1 race bike. I'm about to start restoring a DT1-F which will run a DT250 ignition also. RT1 has great spark and no kick back (yet!)
Good luck finding one out there, we are all chasing them for our current or next projects.

Honda / Re: XR600 Flat spot

One of the fixes about 10 years ago was to find a WR400 yamaha carby. Hot start button on carby model (I guess any one of them would do the job). Has accelerator pump which helps with the flat spot.

I have several of my yamaha YZ and IT fitted with these.

Little bit of fiddling to get them to fit, like drilling out the pin hole for bigger pins.

I've used the original spring in most cases.

Mick, your missing the insulation and the lid on that mobile esky. Looks like about a slab size with room for ice! Good thought about installing the heavy duty axle, wouldn't want to have to leave the beers in the bush. Some vinduro rider might steal them!

It helps if you can you tell us what the video camera formate is. MP4, AVI,others. Then it helps to know what you will be played on, tv, ipad etc.
Some of the better cameras have good software you can download from the manufacture. I use 3 various packages. The windows 7 software won't work with mp4. The others have good points and bad. One won't let you do your own start in. Do some googling after you work out which formate the video records in.

Parts web page says its 3/16"

93503-16010-00 BALL 3 --- BALL 3/16,

Weirdly enough its the same part number as the smaller balls as the (original) steering head bearings.
There are two sizes, they being 3/16 and 1/4 inch.

This is what Mick is talking about; Part number 25 (yes I know its the IT175 but they are all very similar)

The single ball allows the shafts not to weld together and to allow the clutch side to spin but not the end against the actuator.

Single biggest stuff up on reassembly you can make with these motors. There is a method of adjusting all the parts of the clutch. Better going back to the manual. But first check that the ball bearing is still in the middle of the input shaft of the transmission.

Mick, "D" models didn't have the worm drive, just the lever cam.

Wanted / Re: Yamaha TY175 Clutch cover gasket
« on: April 01, 2014, 07:03:54 PM »
The clutch covers are different, TY175 have no Yamaha letters, DT125 / 175 have Yamaha embosed on them. Goggle TY175 images to see what I mean.

The gasket is the same.....

http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-401-15451-00-00.html

They would be $20 -30 max from Yamaha.

eBay Finds / Re: 1985 YZ250 with air cooled motor????

Piston Numbers come up as 250YZ C, D, E,F? and IT250 E,F,G Wiseco Piston. look like an YZ250 E/F motor given the size of the ignition cover.

Need engine numbers.

Just for others who may need these parts you can find the stator coils here. I have some but not installed (yet) and they look ok.
