Just took delivery of my XYZ extreme YZ yellow yz465 plastics including tank, and all i can say is that the finish and fit is outstanding, very high quality, but one thing i noticed was that the plastic was easy to scratch so i did a little finger nail test with my old blue IT plastic and the new yellows and the xyz plastic is definately softer, but maybe thats becasue its still new?? but i am very happy and they were a pleasure to deal with, just phone don't e mail as he gets too many to answer. I also had personal number plates made up for a 3rd of the price you get them here,. very nice, .... ;)

Sounds Good TonyB.  Don't you owe us some photos mate  ;D ;D  (EDIT : Sorry they were for the exhaust paint thread.  I'm sure the guys here wouldn't mind you posting photos of the swedish ladies on here though).  Did you bring back some dicounted ABBA albums  :D
Love to see the xyz plastics fitted up.
Got my NOS front and rear guards.  Very Happy they appear to be the real thing with yamaha packaging etc :).
All I need now are the side covers.   ???
Thanks for the heads up on xyz TonyB.  The complaint I had heard was regarding emails, so phone calls are the go.

Hi Tony, I am actually still in Sweden !! and now I'm chomping at the bit to get back to my lil project, and I promise when its put together I will photgraph it including the pipe, and the maico 490 owners can drool over a bike that looks better for half the price ( does my jeolousy show?), seriously i owned and raced Maicos in the early eighties and they were'nt twice as good as a YZ465.

Geez,
Luckily you are over here in the safety of the Yamaha area.  Otherwise them would be fightin' words  :D :D.
I don't give it long until a Maico owner chimes in.
Look forward to your photos when you get back mate.  Try and stay warm ;D.

Any chance some photos of them all side by side Krusty ?  If you don't know how to post them email them to me and I will put them up for you.
They sure would sort out a lot of questions people (including myself) have about what's what.
At the moment XYZ seem to be winning.  Please tell me the picture on their web site is of the opaque one :-\.

I owned & raced a YZ465H back in '81 . I now own & race an '81 490 Maico & I reckon that it is twice as good as the YZ pogostick Yamahammer was back then. I give myself an uppercut every time I think back , for not forking out the extra dollars for the Maico in '81. Maybe with the use of modern shock internals the monoshock can be made to work ok these days, but it was certainly the main thing that spoilt the bike back then (as well as the topheavy feeling from the shock high up in the frame). Not that I am that great a rider, its just that the Maico handles that much better & as a package is so much easier to ride than the Yamaha (or anything else of that era for that matter). In my opinion , the next best thing to the '81 Maico in the open evo class is the '83/'84 Husky CR500 (although they don't turn that well). Dennis the KTM fanatic, might argue that the 495 is also a good thing & they have more power than anything else in the class , but they handle like a wheelbarrow full of watermelons & so are only good for winning the drag race to the first corner.
So sorry, Tony B ,for sticking my head into the Yamaha camp, but somebody has to check up on you guys occassionally to make sure you are not blaspheming Maico's good name. :)
