Ok Boney I just looked at a genuine set and the vintage iron set and they are a pretty good fit(except the airbox side down the bottom of the airbox and at the frame junction where the number board starts to go down the airbox) but the airbox side doesnt have the airbox vents in it. My sets are yellow and the yellow is along way off but with the white it is probably ok. I would certainly use them for racing, but if you want to retire your bike and keep it looking original I would save your money and keep looking for an original set. Yeah I know how hard they are to come by, but at the end of the day, how much fun have you had on that bike, and what is the bike worth to you(whats the bike worth with genuine sidecovers). Do the maths, and see what you come up with. Hopefully you will be looking at that bike along time after you retire it, and all I have to say is that if you are happy looking at after-market sidecovers then go for it.

ive had fenders from vintage iron before. they were M. Robert front fenders. they claim that these are made from original moulds/moulds taken from original nos fenders, along with their petty fenders also. they were that good they look like the genuine things, with the M robert logo and all. i cant tell that they are repos. The yellow colour was good too. if i was to get a Petty front fender i would get one from vintage iron as the colour is good and not bright like DC plastics and it even has the Petty logo. So i dont know, if they are reproductions as they say, well they are very good and i was very impressed. so i assume all their YZ stuff would be good

What gets up my nose is that no one is making a YZ-'80/'81 front number board. Whats the story on that. And you will never find a new one, but if you are lucky enough too, every YZ owner will be trying to get it. And all these aftermarket repo plastic guys try to fob us off with a square, twin cable-saver flat piece of plastic rubbish, and have the audacity to tell us its as good as the genuine article. ::)

Ok guys all I can say is I will go now and take photos of my 2 sets of YZ250G/H sidecovers (I am not worried about front and rear guards as you can still get them 'genuine' brand new) and you can compare for yourselves.

CG - I have been meaning to ask you where you got the number plate from as I happened to be looking at bike pics and I thought that number plate looks the goods 8)
DJ - That right side plastic is a fair way off and reinforces CG's assertion that none of the plastics do very well around the airbox area.  I happen to still have the old side cover from the 250 (although it's had it).  Do you think I could somehow modify the DC part to make the intake bits work?  From what I've seen it seems to be the closest (???)  XYZ looks good too, but I'm not sure about their service.
I bought on ebay some "NOS Original front and rear guards" for the 250.  Still waiting for them to arrive.  Time will tell what the story is.
Nathan has been very coy about MM's plastic exploits.  I reckon mm could make a packet worldwide if he can reproduce something decent.  Let's face it.  None of the repros are quite there.
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

im not to sure the G modle had vents for the intake side cover, i see what you mean DJ the edges are not sharp enough and nor are the mounting points , i like the look of the XYZ stuff so in the bin goes the maier shite and if i can find something to fit correctly with out burning a hole in the sidecover and seals the air box correctly then i will have to purchase 2 sets 1 for now and 1 for the future , so what is it VINTAGE IRON, XYZ,DC or wait and see if nathan comes up with something, my mate has an original R/H side cover if you know any good plastic moulder ;D im now leaning towards the XYZ stuff ???. cheers BONEHEAD

Dude,
That's why I started the DC plastics thread.  I am in exactly the same pickle as you.  Maybe Les from Mainly Maico can sort out the XYZ problems ??  A friend of mine used to make plastic moulds and I saw a gap in the market, but the cost of creating the mould is prohibitive.  You need to sell a truckload of them just to pay for the mould :o.
I vaguely remember someone (it might have been DJ) posting about how to stop the pipe burning through the plastic.  Nathan swears by MM's stuff so maybe it is worth waiting for.  Otherwise I think XYZ is the go.
I'm still at a loss the same as you.  Certainly an opportunity for an enterprising business person.
Cheers
