A nufty little idea is to wrap the pipe with exhaust wrap and go to your local motobike shop and ask the mechanics if they have any of the silver material heat shield stuff that is on alot of 4x4 bikes. It always seems to fall off the 4x4's and if they have any grab it(wash it) and glue it to the inside of the sidecover for extra protection. Use ados F2 glue. Exhaust sidecovers are getting rare and expensive so the more ya can look after them the better. Well just a thought anyway.

Is this what you are talking about YZ250H. ;D

Will anyway I hope these pictures helped some. And yeah we can send a man to the moon, give a guy a new heart and even build massive bridges, but no one can make a half decent YZ plastic sidecover ::)

By the way, those repo sidecovers have never been used and will never be used.
I hate repo sidecovers for YZ's, they are all shite, but its what you have to use sometimes.

ok ive just done a comparo between DC and XYZ ,to me the XYZ stuff is the goods but may be a little opaque in colour , i dont care that much but there was a time when opaque was all the rage, the DC stuff just isnt sharp enough and does not come with the appropriate rubbers, im tempted to buy 1 of each just to see which  fits the best, and then maybe try the VINTAGE IRON stuff but if its true what DJ says then forget it ;D come on nathan have you checked out your guys progress yet. ;D, i may even go to bunnings and get a couple of dunny lids and make my own like one of our fellow VMXERS did in reso tips ;D

That's the one DJ.  Old timers disease has not set in as badly as I thought ;).  I'm good for a few more years yet.  A great tip.  It's probably in resto tips already, but if it isn't it should be.  I have lost count of how many side covers that I've seen that are otherwise perfect with exhaust burns in them :(.
Those pictures helped heaps thanks.  We now know that Maiers are also dodgy.  Still OK, but not quite there if you know what I mean.
It can't be THAT hard to produce a good plastic.  From the research I have done the plastic itself costs about 20c.  The mould costs about $5000.  That's a lot of mudguards to sell before you get your money back :o :o.  I questioned wether there where that many YZ's left in the world.  Although the front one does do a lot of years.
Never mind the search continues for a decent YZ plastic.
DJ - At least you aren't emotionally scarred by the stuff you've bought up until now  ;D ;D ;D ;D
The search continues.  Dunny lids are looking good  :D :D  It's going to be funny when you can't buy a white dunny lid for love nor money  :D :D  Buy shares in who ever makes then NOW !!!
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

Try the shower wall linning, its shiney white, it bends, its easy to cut, and I think you can mold it with heat and if it gets a scratch in the shop its free ;) ;D
Oh and guys dont be telling everyone about the exhaust pipe and sidecover thingy as we yammie boys cant go giving everything away ;D.

Your secret is safe with me mate  ;).  It's an absolute cracker of a tip.  I'm not sure what shower lining you are talking about, but it certainly sounds better than Dunny lids :D :D.
Have you noticed that apart from general discussion the yamaha brand attracts far more attention than the others.  That or we dribble more sh1t than the rest  ;D ;D
Now waiting for Jake to post his pickies on the DC thread.  Boney's side covers look pretty good.  I reckon I would go for the XYZ ones.  Pretty sure that is not Boney's bike though.  It's got the wrong pipe unless it is an old picture.  The one Boney has fitted looks SWEET.

If you get fed up with white or yellow YZ's try Black instead

She looks sweet boney.  WTF are you talking about stripping the paint off the singarm??.  I thought you had just sanded it back with W and D. Still looking at options for my swingarm.  The one in the photo you posted looks pretty good (looks polished to me).  So does the new seat by the way - well done and where did you get it from ??.
Be very interested to see how the opaque (you did well to spell that if you've been drinking all day) plastics look.
Cheers ;)

i shit you not, i just used paint stripper and washed it off after about leaving it for 20 mins or 2 beers, the brand i use is sparko see pic, i even did it still attached to the bike, i used the same on the 125 h i showed you, little hint after washing off paint stripper use if possible a small sheet of metal fly screen this acts a pot scrubber and the results are good ,if you want the natural look ;D

That's awesome mate.  You should trot that tip straight over to Resto Tips.  I'm going to do that (what you have done) with mine, but paint it with POR15 Glisten.  Dear as poison and the blokes from the hub thread are going to give me heaps since I am a tight arse 2 for $5 a can man, but I have decided that I am allergic to polishing alloy.  It gives me the sh1ts.
Hopefully the POR15 lives up to its reputation or the dude that sold me the stuff had better look out.
