I've pulled my head in for a long time now about certain things, but it's near time to have another go. It is totally and utterly inexcusable for Vintage Dirt bike events in the same state to clash. The Wagga Nationals is just that, a National Championship meeting, so that's that, it should take precedence over any other meeting held that weekend.
There should be some sort of protocol preventing MNSW from giving a permit to any competeing meeting on the same weekend. Any club with a meeting on the same day should just simply do the right and decent thing and re-schedule, that way both meetings benefit by maximising their entries. :(

I agree with that thought Magoo. But...

I don't know all the details, however I believe that the DT Nats date was taken AFTER HEAVEN had locked in the dates for their 2007 events.

I do think that someone (MANSW?) should have noted the date clash and thought a bit harder about things. I still maintain that you just can't have a lot of vintage meets too close together, there just isn't the audience for it.

And sadly, I don't think the Nats have the drawing power they did when there were only a couple of events per year.

However, how it is is how it is now. Let's hope that anyone involved in these events next year does their best to avoid this happening again.

. A club day can always be rescheduled to another time and space but a full on Australian Championship is far more difficult to move. It's a pity there wasn't a sense of fair play shown here. It wouldn't have taken HEAVEN all much effort to reschedule their meeting to a later date and it would have had a benificial effect on their image, showing such admirable cooperation. It would have been a win/win situation for both clubs and for the sport as a whole.
On the rider side it would be nice to see a few of the racers who are considering going to the HEAVEN meeting seeing the big picture and supporting the Wagga Nats. There are many HEAVEN club days but only one Nats. I really hope that any racer that's undecided as to which meeting he intends to attend takes a punt and goes to Wagga. This meeting needs support for it to return to the calendar on a regular basis. The clashed meetings is only one small part of a bigger overall problem. There should be more entries from the pre 75 brigade and from other states.
I guess it may just be the apathy of the current vintage racing fraternity. Like I said in an earlier post, riders were busting their balls to get to this meeting 10 years ago. It was (and still should be) a really big deal.

If Wagga club don't get their break even entry quota, the meetings going to be canned and from then on it's going to be a big ask to find a club willing to sacrifice the time and effort to attempt promoting it again. A lose/lose situation for our sport.

I couldn't agree more. This whole situation could have been handled so much better. Club days can be run any time but a National Championship should get an unhindered date. I really hope the riders support the Wagga event. The club needs our support.

Yes, that's true, a club day could be rescheduled. However, it hasn't been and nor do we know the full facts. Yes, the Evo Challenge will impact to some extent on the Nats and I think that is definitely the case. We'd be sticking our heads in the sand to think otherwise and I think the various players should hear our gripes and resolve to do better next time. But I for one don't know the full facts and it may be that there has been discussion in the background of which we are not aware. If not, then it's a lesson to learn for next year.

But you know, the Vintage DT Nats IS a national championship. So before we go bagging HEAVEN and the 5-10 riders we might lose to the Evo Challenge (and remember, the Nats are primarily Pre 75), where are all the entries from Victoria, SA, QLD, and even Tassie? It's not the job of Sydney riders to support the DT Nats on their own. What about all the Penrith riders who do DT and rarely a HEAVEN meet? The South Coast riders who support the Jack Hogg?

I think it's drawing a long bow to suggest that somehow HEAVEN might be responsible for the DT Nats failing to get enough entries. I agree the date clash should never have happened and someone should fix that next year. But it's not HEAVEN's fault if this one folds. It's the riders who couldn't be bothered.

However, before we get too worked up, let's see how the numbers are looking next Friday. I reckon it'll be a whole lot brighter...

um... like i said in sA WE HAVE a State tilte round of vMX the week before and the final round of the state tiltes Dirt track the week after, people wont risk bike failures.   if the Nats was 2 weeks later you d have at least 5 + from here,

IMHO - if the nats was in SA youd have 10+ in pre 75 alone, i still cant get over the fact that such a large sponsering state cant get 20+ rider alone, even discounding the fact that it is so close to the other east states. For an eastern seaboard event its poor showing from exactly that the eastern seaboard.

Keeping this post active,
I rode at Nepean dirt track yesterday and they had ALL the entry forms ( for Wagga) taken up. I hope the momentum is building.Remember entries close THIS Friday, so don't muck around, you really only have this Tuesday and Wednesday left allowing for mail.

Shit , that reminds me,I haven't got mine in yet. Mine's off tommorrow.(I only just found out I can get the work leave!) All I need now is a bike.

we really need 2 get the entry forms in as soon as possible, so far we've only recieved 20 entry's, as of monday. if we dont get behind these kinds of events, its only a matter of time before there gone. we've put a lot of time and effort into the track n grounds, a lot of people within have put their work and business second to this event. so many people have been ringing and enquiring bout the titles over the past couple of weeks (at least 5 a day), i know that if at least half of those guys show up we're in for an awesome weekend.

sorry guys..im actually daves son. Lindsay. i really hope your right Graeme, it will be a major shame if we don't get the numbers up very soon. i can tell everyone now that the track is at its best, and no rider would be dissapointed. i personally am counting down the days till i can get my own 2 bikes on the track, and being only 23, i can't wait to race with dad and some of the "older" guys on the day. i'll try and keep everyone up to date as much as possible with everything.

Good to meet you (sort of) Lindsay. Thanks for keeping us up to date. I used to be Comp Secretary for my local club in Qld and it never failed that most of the entries turned up in the last few days. So, here's hoping.

Sounds like the club's done a big job on prepping things for the day, I really hope it happens - I think we'll have a ball. What will you be riding? I hope to be in the Pre 75 125 40-49 years, Evo Open and Pre 85 support.

yeah the track and grounds are perfect, and also plenty of room for camping on the friday and saturday nights, we also hope a few of the guys hang around afterwards for a few beers and a bullshit. i'll be riding rm250b and kx400, dads on cr125 n kx250, younger brother is on an xl500, an uncle is riding a tt500 and rm250b, and another uncle is riding a 500 slider. so classic dirt track's definately in the family.
