Pokey is on the money. The different systems and manufacturers of aftremarket ignitions have different advance and retard values. Some have user programmable advanve/ retard curves. I suggest a softly/softly approach with the testing.

One would hope that those in positions of power, would be astute enough to make decisions in the best interests of all current and future motorcyclist and not in their own self interest.

But time will tell.

Dear Wasp and everyone,

I did a search (I am not a member of MA) but being a "Not for Profit" Organisation, financials and board minutes etc should be freely available to everyone. Please see attached link to the MA AGM reports -23 year is the latest.

https://www.ma.org.au/about-ma-2/operational-structure/ma-minutes-reports/

I have briefly read the AGM report and I think there is some issues with the Public risk cover ( I do note one board member has experience in this area).

Cannot attach the minutes as a PDF.

Hope this is of some help!

Peter

Being based in Victoria it seems as though they want to run evetything out of Victoris. That doesn't seem smart to me. I see the point in having one national body for insurance, but I think back 45+ years ago to when each state did their iwn stuff.

I have only returned to motorcycling in the last 5 odd years, being a member of VERI and do not fully understand the politics etc of it all. Is it a power trip by someone rather than for the betterment of all riders?

Just my thoughts, Peter

That is a very well scripted piece. I happen to agree with your comments, which is unlike me. The winds of change are "blowing", picking a winner is a lottery. Bike manufacturers need to maintain their individuality to appel to me. I am considering re registering the H1 triple again

That is a very good looking graph, with the colours making it eady to see the differences between needles. Having the dimensions graphed , rather than numbers makes is so much easier to understand at a glance. I have looked at the needle numbers till my head ached.
Great work John

Well John,

I think this opens the door for you to share your knowledge. Perhaps you wouls be so kind as to post your thoughts pn jetting the Mikuni VM carburettor i a series of articles.

The Mikuni VM series may be old technology but I enjoy the ease of obtaining new stock and parts. I find them easy to work on, compared to other model Mikunis.

Keep the "outside of the box" fixes coming. As the bikes get older we aften have to resort to alternative fixes to keep the bikes running.

Tech Talk / Amal mk2 carburettor differences
« on: June 22, 2024, 08:31:23 am »
So in the never ending search for blend between originality and rideability with my Bultacos I have decided it is time to start work on returning to the original spec Amal MK 2 carburettor.
I have a collection of used and NOS Amal carbies.

I am unsure of the diffetences between 4 and 2 stroke Anal carbies ( pilot in body versus in the float bowl and the various float bowls of differing depths.

I have my suspicions but think someone with more knowledge than me on here will be able to put me on the correct path!

Awaiting responses from the knowledgeable, peter
