Keep the "outside of the box" fixes coming. As the bikes get older we aften have to resort to alternative fixes to keep the bikes running.

Tech Talk / Amal mk2 carburettor differences
« on: June 22, 2024, 08:31:23 am »
So in the never ending search for blend between originality and rideability with my Bultacos I have decided it is time to start work on returning to the original spec Amal MK 2 carburettor.
I have a collection of used and NOS Amal carbies.

I am unsure of the diffetences between 4 and 2 stroke Anal carbies ( pilot in body versus in the float bowl and the various float bowls of differing depths.

I have my suspicions but think someone with more knowledge than me on here will be able to put me on the correct path!

Awaiting responses from the knowledgeable, peter

Andy, from Minnesota USA, (this has come from my facebook feed), has tried to create a login but was unsuccessful. I firmly believe forums offer decent advice etc compared with Facebook etc and try to always direct users to Forums.

There is a wealth of knowledge on here. Beware of blanket statements like " run 40:1 Motul". We do need to know much more background on the bike. Sounds like a great bike. Hope you enjoyed Connondale!

If the workshop manual, showd the front sprocket being held on by a nut (most adult sized bikes use a nut and lock tab), you should definately use the nut. A motorcycle dealer shouks stock a nut. Allowing the sprocket to move or come loose can lead to catastrophic faikure if - engine cases and or sprocket shaft. I would strongly recommend following the factory fastening system.

So the message for all us is not to retire, we need to promote and pass on our skills to the next generations.

As a relative newcomer to the forum, it is great to knpw some of the forum history. I joined to gain proper information which is difficult to find. Social media sites are full of incorrect information and advice from "Knuckle heads". I believe well administeted forums are the modern day encyclopaedias with the correct information.

I see no value in expousing rubbish information and theories.

There is a Hodaka 125 which turns up to VERI Vinduro and sometimes the 250 Road Toad. Great compact bikes.

Interesting observation re scrutineering and sound levels. Some of us may remember times when there were no sound limits and no mufflers on 2 strokes.
We often did our own scrutineering in Victoria for "Chairs" as the solo guys weren't interested in us. Even now scrutineering needs some thought prior to entry.
