You could be right, but I also think that there is room in the Factory team for him.

Milsaps and Short are gone. Canard promoted to the 450s, they haven't won much in the 450s for a long time and Reed is one of the few that could turn that around.

It would be good for Canard to have an experienced team mate as well, he showed he could ride with the big boys last year, but it would be good to keep any undue pressure off him in his first full season.

It will be interesting to see where the chips fall…

i think Reedy's still got a bit in him except for,
this virus thing he has.
and that "could" mean he won't be quite on the pace for a little while yet.
that'll be something the teams will be considering for sure cause supercross is just around the corner and i don't think he'll be too big a factor outdoors.

I wouldn't worry about that, glandular fever isn't a life sentence… I think that there was more to the situation at Kawasaki what was let on to the public.

Chad Reed to the new Vodaphone Honda?by MX WEEKLY on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 1:45pm
The rumours are coming thick and fast and we broke the story last week on the show regarding Chad Reed, switching to Honda.

Industry sources have confirmed that the Super X and AMA Champ will indeed jump on board "a whole new outfit" for the Newcastle Super X  opener the 16th of October.

Last week via his twitter account and via a press release, Chad Reed revealed last week that he will contest the event in what well may become his "come back", after battling the Epstein Barr virus.  Insiders who spoke to MX Weekly, spoke of an "soon to be named blue-chip communications company, which we believe to be Vodaphone", which has also been confirmed by sources close to Chad Reed.

“Currently free of any commitment to motorcycle manufacturers, Reed has partnered with a blue-chip global brand to appear at Energy Australia Stadium and will debut his unique race machine in the week leading up to the event,” the press release last week, stated.

Sources who remain "very close" to Chad Reed have speculated that the former champ will indeed be riding a Honda CRF 450 for the event, as negotiations were still being finalised prior to official announcements being made.

Bearing in mind that it was in fact Team Vodaphone that Chad Reed tested a V8 Supercar with, who also just happen to be under the Public relations auspices of Fluid PR.

The story goes that "Pro Circuit" are currently preparing a Honda motor for Chad now,so the jigsaw is starting to possibly fall into place and the Honda rumor is a possibility,

maybe they should try doing anything when you've had Epstien Barrs syndrome, see if they can do what he did.  i suffered for a few years with a variety of strains of Glandular fever and it was bloody hard just to get through a day

Whether you like the person or not you have to stand in admiration of what he has acheived and he aint dead yet.  Also the notice and help he has brought to Australian riders and Australian MX

I used to be able to ride like Reedy and made an absolute fortune for the pain i went through, but then i woke up and rolled over and went back to sleep, and dreamed of completeing my KTM rebuild, still bloody dreaming

.... maybe if he hadn't jumped ship every 5 minutes and stayed longer with teams he might have got up there with the greats....

Talk about cynical.  :o

Like all of us, he is entitled to do what is best for himself and his family. It must drive him [and high profile people like him] nuts to have every part of their life examined and commented upon by people they don't even know.

And then he gets no credit for his achievements, or for having the unmitigated gall to come back home and try to resurrect a stagnant Supercross series with fresh ideas and quality imported riders. I know that if I left home at 18 with a dream, that I turned into a reality, I would hope for a bit of respect…

I suppose Jeremy McGrath is a bit of a 'no hoper' as well, after all he only won a single outdoor title. Didn't he ride for Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and KTM - where is the loyalty there?  Hold on, that is the same number of Factories that Chad has ridden for…  :o

It's pretty f...ed up how people shoot down Reed so easily.
Up until a few weeks ago he was the current defending AMA 450 outdoor MX Champ but now he's finished apparently.. according to the keyboard experts.
Like him or not you can never write off a champion like Reed.

How many times did he win a championship when the guns werent out injured......?... I mean he's still acheived alot but missed alot aswell.....nearly every time he was going to race the MX Des Nations he'd get a sprained heart muscle or something 2 days out from the meet...How can you compare McGrath to Reed...there not in the same boat, Mc was the gun of his time just like Carmicael was in his time....he's just picking up the leftovers!! ;D ;D :D :D.....Hey clogwog, how many MX world champs has Aussie had...not counting the junior.....I'll tell ya...NONE, 0, NILL, ZERO, ZILCH, oh, did I say 0 . ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Ah clogwog the truth come out!!!-bumping uglies with a Kiwi,I always knew you had a skeleton in the closet!!
I am assuming its a Kiwi lady, but then again I heard that you seemed to enjoy the CZ lycra jersey a tad too much at CD7

Yes rugby isnt a real game, its only the game that your guys Mungo version (league) was derived from!!!!

Back to the subject,I guess Reedy will have to regain some pride and show us how good he is next season, like BT101 (Townley) did in 2010......

The reason there hasn't been an Aussie World Champion is related to Epstien Barrs syndrome.

A similar disease - but extremely contagious - infected 97% of the Aussie pro motocrossers circa 1975.   Rahier Barrs Syndrome is thought to have been accidentally imported via the Bert Flood dealership.  The first local to go down with it was Victoria's Mike Landman.

Before long it had spread interstate.   Symptoms included drooping elbows and a lethargy that left riders circulating mainly on their seats.   Butt-punished and whoop whipped, they never quite got up to ultimate speed.   1983 Mr MX R VDB is one notable exception who, despite being afflicted, flopped and flapped his way to this country's ultimate victory that year.

Meanwhile, the Belgians stood up ... and took most of the global titles.  Notably, they were short.  Wee guys like Eric Geboers didn't seem to suffer too much from Rahier Barrs as, being short-legged, they had trouble getting their arses off the seats anyway

this is starting to read like the racer-x website comments.
ho hum...
i take my hat off to the fact that he's promoting a good thing back here in Oz with the super X gig.
how many top level pro's put something like that back into the sport.
and he's doing it in Kiwi land too.
but with Reed now on Honda, i guess all those little niggles between him and Kevin Windam will be even.
no excuses for K-Dub now.

Having lived in OZ and NZ, for 25 and 14 years respectively, I know that Kiwis are much worse at the tall poppey syndrome that Ockers!

Trust me when I say, Aussies are no where near as bad.....

I personally like what I see of Reed. Talks straight, great rider, and his wife has plastic enhancements!

Good luck to him, I hope he gives it to Bubba and the other yanks!!!

Are you sure K-Dub is in for Canberra? I didn't see him on the list for next weekend, but I hope he is. And yes, Reed showed he is still one of the fastest men in the world. Poor old Alessi had some bad luck but even so he didn't seem to be on the pace...

*Just checked the SuperX website - looks like Canberra is in for a treat!  Milsaps, Windham, Alessi, Brayton, Hanson. Now THAT's a lineup. And I see that the Canberra MC Centre is having a big meet the riders thing at their grand opening Saturday morning. Pray the weather is good - currently forecasting cloudy with showers.

The racing was good. Matt Moss,PJ Larsen and a kid called Steven Clarke, a Brit I think, showed some great speed. K-Dub too good, and it was worth it just to see him ride.
I reckon Chad could have said why he wasn't riding before the event.I checked the official website on Thurs and no mention if he was riding or not etc. Why? Chad probably would have won but K-Dub would have seriously challenged him.

OK. I missed that. Not on the site,  and the people with us and around us at the race didn't know either.
Jake Moss also showed some serious pace re-taking Windham in one race before having a small off.

I heard through an US industry source, that Reedys trying to line up a ride with a second tier team, all the prime factory jobs have gone.Maybe we should scrape together some cashola via fund raising.
How about a Ozvmx driven raffle??; first prize a night out for dinner with Evil Rudy, second prize two nights out with Rudy....

There is no US Factory Yamaha team, it was disbanded in 2009. So no chance there for 2011.

JGR  would'nt happen, they want there riders based in So Cal.

Well North Carolina is pretty close to SoCal…?  :o

I agree TLD is probably the best fit. If the Chadster can drum up some extra $$$ to boost the coffers Troy would be crazy not to have him.

I don't really care what he does [its his life to enjoy], so long as whatever it is pisses off those numbnuts who post their comments on the RacerX site - what an embrassment. Boy it would be good to see him comeback and make them swallow their mis-spelt words.  :D

First, you are entitled to your opinion.
Second, it's my website and I am entitled to ask you not to share that opinion if I think that's warranted.

In this case, I ask that you please stop commenting on the motives of either the SCMCC or the Promoters of Classic Dirt.

There will be no further discussion. Once more and you are banned.

This from the "Daily Telegraph" today

FORMER motocross world champion Chad Reed will today shock the American motorsport establishment by dumping multi-million-dollar manufacturing contracts to create a renegade all-Australian superteam.

Reed, 28, will create history by banishing big names like Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki to build his own Frankenstein-style bike that will borrow from the best of every manufacturer.

The Australian motorbike megastar says he is taking the revolutionary step because he has had enough of the American corporate machine, as he calls it, and wants to do things "the Australian way". And he is drawing on Australia's most celebrated sporting victory over Uncle Sam, the 1983 America's Cup triumph, as he attempts to beat the all-powerful US-backed Supercross teams with his own chequebook.

"I am over dealing with all the teams and the rules and I want to do it my way," Reed said.

"I want to do it the Aussie way. This will be my team 100 percent but a lot of my friends and teams I worked with back in Australia in my younger days will be involved in this race team. So will Australian products and companies.

"There is going to be a massive Australian element.

"It has an America's Cup sort of feel. America was very dominant and then Australia funded a team and they had a bunch of fun and came out and killed it."

Arguably the greatest Supercross rider in history, Reed was being hard-balled by the sport's manufacturers after a difficult year.

Some had even written the Kurri Kurri-raised champion off after he was forced to quit season 2010 after he was diagnosed with the debilitating Epstein-Barr virus.

But Reed is having none of that and will today announce his multi-million-dollar gamble to own and operate his own team.

"The way the economy is going the manufacturers aren't selling the bikes they used to and to end up on these teams they are paying you less and less," Reed said.

"They are also asking a lot more from you and are kind of whoring you out for want of a better world. "I love the sport and I am not ready to walk away but I want to do it on my terms. The risk is high. I am usually taking multi-million-dollar contracts but at this point it is me who will be writing multi-million-dollar cheques."

Reed, a multi-millionaire and superstar in the US, is one of the few men on the planet who could afford such an audacious act of rebellion against the establishment.

He is ranked Australia's fifth richest athlete, behind Greg Norman and Harry Kewell.

Without restriction from manufacturers, Reed will create his own superbike with a Honda at the core.

"As an athlete you are always under some form of contract or obligation and I am in a position where I could rethink that,"Reed said. "I have been able to ride different bikes over the last three months and been able to find what suits me and fits my style.

"The Honda is the one that I have found suits me but I am in a position where I can use parts from anywhere. My weapon of choice is a Honda but I can get bits from anywhere and I am not getting any manufacturer's help."

Reed admits he is taking a multi-million-dollar risk but is banking on Australian companies joining the fight. "But this isn't based on money," he said.

I am pleasantly surprised that the Daily Telegraph didn't ask Chad which team he played for…

…to build his own Frankenstein-style bike that will borrow from the best of every manufacturer.

But that is a real stretch. A Honda with a ProCircuit motor and suspension and a custom graphics doesn't really fit that description. He will have enough to worry about without embarking on that kind of project - he has the talent, just ride the thing.

Should be great to watch, and if successful it will really piss of the Yanks [especially the ones that haunt the RacerX site].  :D

Go Chad!!!!!

Good to see he has God on his side [judging by the people in the background praying].

And the Yanks can't understand why they don't have a thriving motorcycle manufacturing industry… that thing is a classic.

I am assuming he is going to be jumping something? Or is he just going to be giving the kiddies some rides with the very handy dual seat?  ;)

Look up the movie "Winners Take All".  It's a motocross/supercross movie from the 80s.  There's bits & pieces on Youtube.  Whilst billed as a drama/adventure movie back in the 80s, it's pretty much a comedy now  ;D

That bike was bodged up from parts lying around in other riders trucks after the bad guys torched our hero's (Rick Melon - pictured) Yamaha the night before.

I really wish him all the best and hope he sticks it up the yanks,BUT history has shown that what he is undertaking is a  big ask; setting up,and running your own team i.e McGrath from Honda to Suzuki of Troy in 1997 ,Jeff Emig Factory Kawaski to Yamaha,McGrath Yamaha to KTM.
This is not a knocking session,I am merely pointing out history and the difficulties he will face, but if any one can do it,Chad can.

What he seems to forget is the production bike rule in the states, surely if it's a bit from this manufacturer & a bit from that manufacturer then any of the teams will be able to protest his bike on that grounds & the AMA will have no choice but to uphold it

Chad may not be that expensive.

Depends on how sponsors view Chad, definitely he can still win races, but will having to run his onw team be too distracting when you are struggling to stay fit and in front of Ryan Dungey and his friends, thinking McGrath, has Chad got 1800-Collect left in him.

Well, Chad sure got the message boards all lit up with THAT pass on Stewart. Dunno what they got all worked up about, looked legit to me. If Stewart hadn't hit him they'd have all been cheering the move.

I don't know what Stewart is moaning about. The whole thing is simple - don't leave the door open on the last lap.

And if you do it's your fault if someone goes for the block pass [and he knows full well that Reed will everytime  ;D]. I wish Hannah was still racing, because he wouldn't have just hit him, he would have punted him into the 4th row of the cheap seats.  ;)

He will never learn, after last year when he took out 3 or 4 other riders [in separate incidents] by crossing lines in midair - hell he even did it to his teammate. What kind of fool scrubs a triple on the first lap - only #7. He has all the skill in the world, but his self belief that he is the best gets in the way when he actually has to race somebody.

Go Chad!!!!!

That was a great move by Chad, he is the only one that gives it back to Stewart and Bubba and his fans can't take it. Stewart has punted or landed on plenty of other riders but cries when it's done to him.
Chad is riding better than ever and i can't wait for Daytona this weekend!

I love Reedy - it's a real Australian National characteristics versus American National characteristics in the riders. More so that Reedy is a privateer.

Go Reedy  ;D

Hey John, we all know he loves that place (Daytona) and man he has got that Honda turning on a dime!

What a race and what a great move but I was more impressed with the interview after the race, no slagging just that determination he is known for.

Bit tuff (for the yanks) when the majority of the crowd are Reed fans!!

This has been the best series in years and win lose or draw Chad has done himself and his team proud all ready.

Yeah Shane, Reedy has really shown what he's made of this year and just keeps getting better each week, i love it how he's sticking it to Stewart and soon Stewart will have another melt down.. Roll on Daytona, Reed is good there. :)

James is fast but James doesn't act smart half a second a lap slower and he would still win and not fall down as much and as far as that Atlanta move shit when youv'e been passed your not  ment to hold it on and run into the rider that passed you he had plenty of time to back off and avoid contact I think.

quote:Reed's ability to manage a team and have a competitive edge as a racer was certainly in question. He certainly has silenced the critics with five races remaining on the schedule. The way he handled the criticism and the way he responded to it during the last 12 races explains why he is considered one of the greatest supercross racers of all time. If the critics need this point seasoned, look no further than his 81.6% podium average. In 136 starts, he's been on the podium 111 times, which ties him with Jeremy McGrath, the all-time winningest supercross racer in history. And he's still in the game.

Stay steady Chad-cause we know Bubba ain't  8)

Looks like brain dead JS7 has taken out Chad Reed "AGAIN" can't wait to see the video and listen to all the reasons to why he accidently punted him off!
Title: Re: REEDY TO HONDA !!! private backing my tip

Stewart has lost the plot on and off the track, he's going to hurt someone soon with his crazy takeouts. Last week it was points leader Villopoto, this week points leader Reed copped it.
Obviously can't handle being beaten, he's far from the champion rider he should've become by now.
I'm not a fan of JS and his attitude..

in all fairness (as loose as he seems to be), he'd lost it through the stutters and the crash was not a "takeout" move

Jeez Chad's a good guy, doesn't reckon it was JS7 fault which really it wasn't a deliberate take out but it's hard to tell the difference,

Well at least Stewart didn't end up winning it.  That would have just been WRONG.

Yeah, Chad has now done the hard yards and earned a LOT of respect - especially in the USA.  At Diamond Dons, almost everyone we talked to was hoping he'd win it.

A couple of hard packed sharp edged bumps that he hit coming out of that sandy section. He was on the gas hard after passing Villo and got caught out.

From what I can see the up ramp is freshly graded/flattened out (between motos?).  I think the grading simply push loose soil into holes in a hard packed up ramp - made observation (of hole) and anticipation impossible.

most pages on Chan Reed himself ,so throw this from fullnoise in these pages.

TwoTwo Motorsports’ Chad Reed will reach a milestone at this weekend’s Monster Energy Supercross as he hits the 150 start mark in his 450 class AMA Supercross career.

The St Louis event will seem him pass Nick Wey for 6th on the all-time start list, a statistic illustrating just how competitive the Australian has been over a number of years at the front of the field.

Reed is hoping to bounce back from an uncharacteristic evening in Atlanta and show the form he is capable of racing with.

“Last weekend was one of those you would like to forget,” said Reed. “I got a shocking start and from there I was stuck back in the pack – a mid-pack race has a very different dynamic to one where you are out in front or close to it.

“There are risks being taken all around you and you have to take risks yourself. Every point counts in this Championship so I was pleased we salvaged something.” The two time AMA 450SX Champion added.

The return to racing at Edward Jones Dome is one Reed is looking forward to after missing last year’s event due to his injury and recovery regime.

“I missed the event last year so I’m really looking forward to getting back out there and seeing all of the fans,” Reed continued. “I’m hoping we can make up for last week’s result with a strong showing this weekend.”

Reed retained 5th on the 450 class ladder despite the Atlanta result.
