two for an all in VMX Nationals....
and one for pre75...
now who would you think wins ....
yes that's right the two all in vmx nationals ...
so come November we will find out the winner....

My strong belief is that the 2011 Nats will be an all in event. The split event is still a dream for the future.

Great track, would be fantastic to have some vintage races there.

A few questions if I can?Have only been a member of this forum for a small amount of time.
As far as nationals for VMX in australia goes does MA have such a santioned event?
If not and its all to hard at the moment it is possible to have a national VMX event and have your own winner!

I have been involved in motorsport for over 20 years and have had to deal with CAMS. Our particular category CAMS did not have a santioned national championship  .We have clubs in each state and together we have organised a "Nationals " for the last 15 years.The "nationals" have been run in nearly every state ( we take in turns when possible) all run under cams as a multi club event.Winners of each catergory return home as the winner of our "national". The only difference is it worked out 1/3 of the cost yipeeee ( in CAMS fees) and CAMS dont reconise this ( SO).

The very first Nationals were held by Penrith Club at Dargle in 1991. As much as we tried we couldn't get MA to sanction it as a legitimate Australian Title for numerous superficial reasons. Because MA wouldn't give their blessing for the event to be a genuine Australian Title event, Geoff Eldridge and I came up with the idea to call the meeting the Vintage Motocross Nationals (Nats for short) and run it anyway. The event was an outstanding success with 150+ entries including three overseas riders, two from NZ and one from the USA (Rick Doughty).

In 1992 'the Nats'  moved to Ravenswood in Victoria where organiser Brian Clarke had no problem getting MA to ratify the event as the first official Australian Classic Motocross Championships. MA had noted the immense popularity of the new sport so seeing the quids to be made, jumped in for their share. They didn't approve of the word 'vintage' to describe our sport and insisted on Bendigo club naming the event Classic Championship as opposed to Penriths 'Vintage Nats' but thankfully the media and racers had taken the name vintage as being representative ofr what they were doing and since that very first event, no matter what the official name for the event is, it's always referred to as the Vintage Nats by everyone involved.

I personally don't think that MA ratification for the Nats is needed at all. I think the spiralling costs of hosting the event would be greatly lessened by reverting to the 'big club day' format pioneered by Penrith club. That first Nats in '91 proved it can work and the giant success of the Annual Queens Birthday Weekend Condoblin Greybeards event between 1989 and 2000 where entry levels outnumbered the Nats almost every year added to the belief that big events can be run by small clubs. I suppose it's too late now but looking in retrospect, I think we'd have survived just fine without MA holding our hands.

Not knowing anything much about anything, I thought the only reason we involved MA was to use their insurance. Getting an Australian championship title just followed on from that??

Firko as we know you dont need the added costs of holding the NATS to have a good vintage event.
Maybe my people should talk to your people and we resurrect the New England Classic as a Private invite black event and hold it at my place.

past experience, it may be easy, but do not run black meeting, if some gets hurt, at lease you are covered bu MA, running black meeting without proper insurance not good idea and if someone gets hurt it gets very messy.

 That reaction is EXACTLY how MA want you to react. But who has ever done the exercise of finding out the cost of insurance cover for a meeting ? They just say "We have massive cover and without us you're snookered." But surely insurance companies don't reject all cover enquiries merely because they're from outside MA walls? You've only got to go through the exercise of getting travel cover for an overseas trip to learn there are many ways to skin a cat.

Surely it's time to at least consider the NZ vmx model, where they told MNZ to take a jump, sorted out their own insurance, and you can turn up with no race licence, no club affiliation, fork out your $30 and race all day.

MA rely on the threat, but nobody's done the homework....

And PS : MA's alleged sensational cover has been found wanting on several occasions, particularly when things get dire...

What l am saying is, you can have any insurance wheather its MA, or NZ, or joe blow, l don`t care, but you must have some insurance when racing bikes.
