Peter when you converted the top -end from piston-port to reed induction  how much modification was required to the inlet track on the rear of the pistion  ? also  did you have to replace the original reeds? Regards Jimbo

Tech Talk / Re: Wet Abrasive Blasting - any takers???
« on: October 21, 2008, 10:58:46 PM »
I owned a garnet wet blaster when I was in buisness which I used mainly on stainless steel. The process is very succesful on any material either ferrous or non ferrous, care must be taken not to cross-contaminate the glass media . The blaster was able to creep up on areas that require a fine go over and strong enough to rid a barrel of all coatings within 10 minutes . The satin finish is non porrious unlike glass beading and a corrosion inhibiter in the solution inables  ferrous areas like a cast liner in a cylinder not to oxidize after treatment . 20k you say I can recall that the area inside the cadinet was about 1metre sq. and after some use the media lost some power  I think that unit was @ 15k in 2001/2 and Iloved it . regards Jimbo.

So Ture! Rob,they may be the poor brother compared to the other models but they are very much a Husqvarna.hey as a   vinduro mount they would be my choice for a  early 70 ride- you've got me thinking about pulling the old beast out the shed. Regards Jimbo.

I have one , while it is built with Husky quality it is a tad on the slow side and is in need of a diet, they are not known as [rt road turkey for nothing]The rear wheel set -up while quite clever weighs a ton! , with the use of parts frrom  motocross and enduro models a performance gain would inprove the bike ,ie carby-intake , exshaust, plastic, fenders, alloy tank ,alloy wheels .etc. Regards bJimbo

Hello . Betor in 1984 made some rear units to the Husky spec . ,they look like ITC ohlins  in every way. In my opinion with post 80 Huskies when pricing look at the cycle parts , if the piviot come rear engine mount is worn you can back it that the rest of the bike has been flogged.Pay attention to crankcases lower frame tubes ,kickstarters[high ware]etc .Plastics are affected by storage as much as use and are replacable ,repairs to components blow-out big time if your resources [stock] are limited .From your discription I'd say  @$800.00 would be good buying for a runner , parts flow  through model to model on alot of hardware, remember buyer BEWARE1! Regards Jimbo.

General Discussion / Re: Stolen Husky CR 400 (Magoo's Race Bike)
« on: April 28, 2008, 10:26:34 PM »
Pete made mention of the Vintage Modificaton ,visually this is the rear downtubes runnig between the top rear shock mounts and the pivoit, these tube will have a dogleg offset only visual from behind the mounted rear number plates -this modification on a Mk frame is a indicator of Pete's bike along with the damage to the rhs crankcase above the output sharft. - If this 400 was parted out all cycle parts fit huskies no mater size of that era. regards Jimbo.

Sad news indeed ,I spoke to Pete on the phone this morning and he seemed typically upbeat. Peter's well known throughout Oz and for that mater the entire World in Husky circles  ,he is as stated earlier is  recognised as one of the premier collector 's and restorers  of the mark and his bikes are a credit to his passion.  Shit  all this talk of bikes being nicked has put shiver up my spine. Tech Talk / Re: alloy tanks repairs
« on: March 24, 2008, 06:15:03 PM »
Paul, splitting a maico or Husky tank is easily done, make sure that the tank has been rendered non flamable [ including fumes ] ,a good flush with water and the use of a inert gas whilst cutting are my preferred methods. The inside will come away from the outer with not much fuss ,personally I use a small handheld grinder with a cutoff disc [don't go for a 1mm thin blade here] and whilst in a seated position I hold the tank between my knees and shave off the fused weld seam, then I pry the two components apart . In the past if the tank is really bad I have even cut the outer shell in half , having said that panel beating can usually be achieved without doing this .Once completed simply tack the pieces back into place and balance weld back together allowing for thermal expansion .Regards Jimbo.  ps, remember that fuel and ether heat or sparks are a mixture for disaster if safety measures aren't employed .

Husqvarna / Re: Piston kit for a 73 WR450
« on: February 08, 2008, 07:21:12 PM »
G'day , a 72/4 400 kit will not fit ,try a rt 360  kit as they are the same bore  and crankcases style set-up with a smaller stroke . [PLEASE NOTE THAT A 450 PISTON HAS A 20MM  PIN AND THAT A 400 USES A 18MM PIN  ALSO THE CROWN HEIGHTS ARE DIFFERENT]Regards Jimbo.
