Piston kit for a 73 WR450
« on: February 08, 2008, 09:27:38 AM »
I'm after a piston kit for a 1973 Husqvarna WR450 (2nd oversize - 84.92). Prefer a new kit or will be happy to take a used just to get the bike going again. May be able to get away with a 1st oversize.
Have tried just about everyone in the States - with no luck. Will take referrals too.
Thanks all (I hope!) - please PM me.

Was one of my first calls! He was really helpful - just didn't have anything.

You'll probably see me at CD5 walking the swap meet with a big WANTED sign around my neck (or some spanners if I see another WR)  ;D

Paul Stacker from Stacker Motorcycles had some old Wiseco piston kits for '73/ '74 Husky 400s at the CD4 swapmeet, in .060" & .080" oversizes ( which might be as big as the bore size you need for a 450). They were fairly cheap too . I don't think that the old style Wisecos are as good as a Mahle or a new Wiseco prolite piston , but it might do the job. Stackers phone number is 0394599535 & might be worth a try.

G'day , a 72/4 400 kit will not fit ,try a rt 360  kit as they are the same bore  and crankcases style set-up with a smaller stroke . [PLEASE NOTE THAT A 450 PISTON HAS A 20MM  PIN AND THAT A 400 USES A 18MM PIN  ALSO THE CROWN HEIGHTS ARE DIFFERENT]Regards Jimbo.

What about a Honda CR450RB piston? I have a standard NOS one, it is 85mm and uses a 20mm piston pin. If you can list the pin & crown height etc, I can compare. It may work.
Cheers,
K

Could try Rick Horvat in USA. He advertisies in VMX magazine. Have dealt with Rick a long time again and was a fountain of knowledge and very helpful

On the swap meet web page, look for a guy called Frank Mizner. He often advertises husky pistons.

And from the AHRMA page, I have kept a couple of phone numbers from guys who regularly advertise husky stuff. The last two numbers did not have names with them but turn up often.

Got the fella's name wrong on the swap meet site. He is advertising at the moment.

"Still have several Husky bikes and parts for sale,
125, 250, 360, 390, 430????
Truck loads
     Frank Risner
Santa Clara, CA"

There is a link to his email address attached to this ad on the swap meet site
