My frame and swingarm are back from the powdercoaters. I am very happy with the job, but as always I will have to cut the coating out of the threads and do some lite file work.

Over the xmas break I will be cleaning the plastics and painting the hubs and triples.

I have blasted the hubs and triples so they are ready for painting.

Bonehead, I took your advice and bought a new coil ;D. I have all new bearings and oil seals for the wheels and new gaskets and oil seals for the motor.
The zincing is just about ready to send away but with it being christmas there isnt much point as Im sure they will be shut over the break so that will have to wait until next year. But there is plenty of work to carry on with over xmas.

Your about the same stage as me with my MX250 project EXCEPT I have my zinc plating done already. A useful tip for future powder coating is to, after sand blasting, take some old bolts and fit them into your threads till they are flush with other side (not protruding) then after coating just unscrew then and you have nice clead threads  ;D .

Yeah I hear ya cyclegod ;D Althought I like re-cutting the threads and it leaves a nice clean transition from powercoat to clean thread. Have you done anything to your motor, suspension or plastics? I havnt touched the forks and I know they are leaking and the rear shock needs to be pulled down and looked at because its as hard as a brick and the motor for this bike hasnt been pulled apart although I do know that the rod is locked up. So I still have alot to do, and that isnt including test riding it. ;D

Do you like trying to extract broken taps?  ??? Just a friendly bit of advice based on experience with powder-coated threads, until I started fitting screws flush, where I used to work, taps as large as 8mm were snapping off in the powder c0ated threads. Its easy to 're-cut' a thread before blasting and much nicer just removing the powdered bolts after because a tap never quite gets ALL the powdercoat out.

I'm using these shocks on my MX racer...only $150.00 US  ;D

I havnt broken a tap in a thread but I have made a tap so blunt that it was completely knacked. After that experience I when out and bought a good quality 6mm tap and have never had a problem since. And the bonus of tapping a thread after powercoating is that it is like new again ;) ;) ;D. So I take it that you dont have to re-build your shocks then? When are you looking at having the MX up and running??

End of January I hope, but you know how it goes, everythings going to plan until you need one small part, that just you can't do without,
can't get OEM anymore, none on eBay and when you do find one the bastard sends it by surface mail even after you asked for and paid for Airmail  >:(

All things being equal, end of January is realistic (unless my new PVL ignition doesn't arrive, ah well points on standby)
I'll try and post a first run video on youtube when she's ready.

Here's a pic of the tank I got off eBay.

Considering how far CD-5 is from W.A it may as well be on another planet.... >:(

I would be looking at 4 to 5 days hard yakka driving there AND driving back, plus I would have to rent a small truck to get my bikes over there (1MX plus 2-3 TM's), plus food, fuel, & lodging. Best estimate puts that at about $4000 which is too pricey for me, even freighting my bikes there, flying over (6 Hrs) and still renting a vehicle is too much. Mind you it would also be ridiculous to host an event like that here in W.A, never mind trying to get to the Nationals too!!!!!!!!!

Stop ya whinging God. The MX is more important than you. Just freight the MX and we'll get someone to display it for you and do a few 'demonstration' laps so the plebes can get to see and appreciate such fine machinery. ;D
