Evo550 thats very cool. Wouldnt it be great to have a look around that little old workshop. The bike that I am build is probably closer looking to the OW11 back in 1973, but I thought it would be a nice twist to call it a Noguchi and over time buy genuine Noguchi parts for it, like a barrel and head.

A brake snake is a piece of wire that holds the brake pedal to the frame. You can make one out of an old clutch cable wire. Cut the nipple off at the handle end of the cable and pull out the wire. Drill a small hole through your brake pedal and thread the wire through so the nipple at the other end holds the brake pedal. Slip a piece of old carb hose(about 10mm long) onto the wire hard up against the brake pedal. Then get an electrical joiner(the type that has the two grub screws in it) and thread that on to the wire. Then cut another piece of the carb hose long enough to go around the frame, thread that onto the wire. Poke the end of the cable wire back through the electrical joiner and pull it tight enough so that the brake still works and you have a brake snake. It is there to stop the brake pedal bending outwards away from the bike.
Failing that, if you dont want to make one go to your local shop and ask for a brake snake and pay $15  ;D

I got these two pictures from ebay(us) anf the bike didnt reach reserve, and the dollars were BIG.

Here is a picture of a Yamaha "Works" bike, the OW11 which was the first Yamaha to race with the monoshock back in 1973. It is a 125cc and raced in Japan.

thanks DJ,
some  Matadores had a set up with a spare cable inner running from brake through frame to gear lever, to keep vegetation out of the levers. Are brake snakes more about not forcing the lever out under racing conditions?

love the progress DJ,
it's a trivial thing i know but those std front guards look super average in my opinion. no offense mate. as an option if your interested, i just lashed out and got me a white YZ250/360a/b front guard from AMS in the states, she looks soo sweet, nice shiny white and light. i reckon it'd just set off the look of your bike to the next level.
just me being fussy and not meant to offend.
cheers...

No offence taken Vandy ;) I dont shy away from critizism, its all good and if it helps, all the better then. But my thoughts on the guards are that if they are genuine/original then they are the ones to use. I have cleaned them up to the point were I dont mind them getting scatched when racing, and after all they are 32yrs old now. Dont forget it is a race bike not a show bike and instead of spending money on after-market guards I think I'm better off to spend it on the motor and running gear. I am trying to keep to a budget ;) but I just havnt figured out what the budget is ;) ;D.

Vandy, is the offer of a rear wheel with a dirttrack tyre still open?? I am going with a 482 chain.

the back wheel offer is most definately yes!
my flat track wheel is the yz/c with a dished 47tooth 428. it's got new bearings and runs a slightly used michelin trials tyre which is supposedly the good stuff for flat track. sprocket is new so shouldn't do your chain any harm and with your spacers/brake plate it should bolt straight up.
my mate and i plan to get there friday arvo so we should have heaps of time.
keep up the good work champ...

EDIT!
i've just read the vmx site's CD5 blurb and it says the flat track will be unavailable.

Very cool bike. Adam
Your friend must be very pleased with the way the bike is looking. Is he going to ride or show it?

Its all good Hilly ;D but at the end of the day at would be just great to sit down with a cold one(not to cold, my teeth cant handle it these days ;) ;D ) and talk about the problems and the enjoyment of building a bike ;D. Maybe we could have a vote on it. ;) ;D ;D
