Yeah I have been watching that auction for a few days. The tank looks like it was just made yesterday, someone must have looked after it very well for over 30 years.

I have made up new cables for the bike, and the rear brake rod is fitted also. The brake pedal seems to work with the adjustable leverage, althought until I actually ride the bike I will have no idea if it works properly. The next thing to make are footpeg springs. I have bought a spring that the pin fits threw so I just have to bend the ends to how I need them to hold the pegs down.
I have bead blasted the engine so after the barrel get a rebore and hone I can paint the motor. One of the cases needs a small repair to the rear engine mount, once that has been done its painting the motor and then assembling it. I have new gaskets, o-rings, oil seals, con rod kit, piston kit and all new bearings for the motor.
Basically the bike is now a rolling chassis except for a front number board, which I thing I will look at 'multi mounts au' front number board. I still believe my rear shock is to hard so I will keep working on that.
My pipe for the bike has a few small dings in it so I will heat it up and blow them out, and paint the pipe.
The gearing will be interesting as I'm running a gold DID race chain(428) 45 tooth rear (47 standard) but I have a selection of front spockets (12-13-14-15-16) so I should be able to find something that works.
I'm starting to get excited about having a ride on the bike but it will still probably be a few weeks away yet as I like to let the paint cure for at least a week.

Evo550 yeah I would like that barrel and I have a webco head that would go striaght on top. The porting looks very different with the direct port being round(not a cut away) and the bottom intake port direct into the crankcases is very intertesting. I have a barrel here that has a cutaway intake port but have never used it. In standard form the yz barrels dont have that cutaway. I shall watch the auction with interest and you see what it goes for. I have bidded on a couple over the last 6 months but as yet still dont have one. Maybe this time ;) ;D

I have been waiting on a couple of parts for the motor and the cases to be repaired. I found out today that one of the bearings I needed is NLA but after a bit of searching we found one over in your 'great southern land' and for the price of 3 vegemite sandwiches the bearing should have been shipped out today. I picked up the cases after work today as will as the crank with a new rod and big end fitted. The barrel has just been bored and honed for the new piston so all is looking good. I have started painting the motor but I am devastated, the paint I usually use has been discontinued. My beloved VHT case paint is now no more so I am trying a different spray can so its a bit experimental at the moment. So far I have applied 3 coats and I think I have it at about the right satin look. I will post up a couple of pictures tomorrow. I have also been busy getting the YZ125J gearbox fixed for my 'werks' rider. The powervalve linkage arms also needed attention, she better ride bloody fast now because I was hoping to have the little Noguchi up and running for the 3rd round (10th  Feb) but I thought her ride had better take priority because of the 3rd round of the series.

Hi Hilly, yep its the third round next weekend and we have 2 more after that. Rumor has it that an Aussie is coming over for rounds 4 & 5, going to be ridding a YZ400F. It will be interesting to know who it is?
Anyway I have painted the motor so its basicially waiting for a bearing and then put her together. As usual there will be some fine tuning to do but if everything goes to plan this week I could get to run it in at round 3.

LWC, I have been told that over here in NZ that the VHT 'engine case' paint (satin black) has been discontinued and they have also discontinued a couple of the other paints. Check with your local dealer and buy up what you can.
This is the VHT paint I use and got so use to it I could vary the gloss level from flat/matt to semi gloss, by drying it in hot or cold conditions and by heating or cooling the part before painting it.

I will now have to experiment with another product and see if I can get the same results. I am trying CRC black zinc. I will keep looking around because I prefer black oxide, but for now the CRC spray can will do but it will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

This does not incude my hours of cleaning, painting, polishing, repairing and manufacturing of parts etc.
Nor does it include Danny's labour for the motor building or Brian's work on the frame. I am very greatful for there knowledge and skills.

As yet, I am still wiating for a bearing to turn up, but I'm thinking I should start cooling the beer down.

Dont hestiate to let me know if you think I have over estimated or under-estimated the costings, as I said before I already had allot of the parts but cant remember the the cost of them and some parts came as box lots, so in saying that I think most prices are pretty close.

Evo550, the parts are clean enough to eat off  ;D and there is nothing like having a big steak while looking at a motor ;)
I am still trying to sort out a spring for the rear shock and I'm still waiting for the gear box bearing so I'm at a stand still now. So close and yet so far away.

A friend suggested to me my next project should be my YZ250H, and I was thinking along the lines of an aluminum tank the same shape as the H tank, a new seat foam cut down and re-shaped, billet triple clamps bored out to take  the 44mm Fox Forx's, new SM Pro gold anodized rims, DG pipe, and a completely new redesigned swingarm that is more angled, longer and beefer looking. A TonyD Preston petty front guard and opaque sidecovers.

Oh bugger its already been done :( .... maybe I should attempt it anyway.
