The value isn't so much "this is a poop hot race bike", its about the historical significance of the bike. Of that era, the MYTD bikes (esp Bell's) were clearly the iconic bikes that everyone thinks of.
Whether there's $15k worth of historical significance, is entirely another question - I'd say not. An ex-Jimmy Deakin YZ250S failed to sell for $1200 about 18 months ago - admittedly it was in much less-good condition and poorly advertised, but it strongly suggests that bikes of this era don't have the 'wow factor' that translates into dollar value (yet?).
