I like the old Val's and american stuff but what a bout a real classic that will never die and has been around the clock once and back to 0 with me in it.......... That is right a restored car that gets used properly not to just go to shows, My other car has recently been stolen from my driveway so this is now my everyday drive.

In reply to the previous pulled post.
Yeah, I kind of understand your concern but nobody knows where you live and very few your real name. What's the point of owning nice cars if you can't show them off a bit? Has the world become so bad that a bloke can't post a piccy of his bloody car without becoming paranoid that it'll be knocked off? Each to his own I guess.........nice car though.

Firko. Yeah I know. It is a shame I have be that way. I have been touched up by the low life types few years ago and lost a rare car. We believe we know who took it, even saw some of the parts off the car being sold but couldnt prove it to the police. ID' ing a mark here and bump their was not proof enough for the law. Even thou they did agree it was very likely them. Still needed soild proof before they could act.

Yup I am a little paranoid now. Thanks for you comment on the beasty. After I remembered these threads are completely puplic and not a members only area I got nervous and pulled the post.
It would not be too hard to track my location. I often put up links to auctions on ebay for bikes im selling. In those listing is my location. A very small town. Certainly not hard to track me down by asking a few locals. Tracking my storage shed however would be a lot more difficult.  ;)

Quicky,
by being so fussy do you think you are letting the bad guys win, I can tell you where lies lots of expensive cars that you would have to sell your house and all your bikes and borrow millons to buy.

They still drive them show them and love them, If they go missing they are insured, I know another guy in my car club that opens up his house to an event once a year come one come all. Has 10millon dollars worth of cars in his shed in 6 cars.

I think you are being to fussy or don't have proper cover cause at the end of the day I can own anything but if I don't use it what is the point. I mean that A model in the picture has been to around Australia.

runutz698,

I think Firko was only one that saw my original post so he knows the sort of cars we have. Fussy, yeah a little i guess. We do drive and enjoy one of the cars every month or so.
If they go missing they are insured? That maybe so mate but one car I purchased in 1983, I worked two jobs to pay it off. It cost me as much then as I would of paid for a brand new in the day. If not for my father going on the loan with me the bank would never of given me the money for what was already a 12 year old car at the time. Insured ? Yes. Replaceable, maybe.

I certainly admire you friend for opening his doors and letting people see his cars. We did that too. Displayed at nationals in Valla for few years as well. In the end all that did was cost us a car.

Quicky If we all followed your perspective on classic car (and bike) ownership, the joys of owning something unique that deserves to be shown off would be lost and we'd be all driving beige Camrys. I've been robbed too but I don't let that one crook experience rule my life.

As some of you would know driving a muscle car around is like painting on back window "Race Me" to every dickhead who thinks his car was hot. You know the type. Bloke who put new rings, regrind cam, 350 holley on his 253 and boasted he had 400hp.

Late 1980s early 90s the V8 was still king ( at least in rural Oz ) No rice burners with doof doof CD players around then. We kinda got tired of the dickheads wanting to have a go each time we took out the pride. So with old XB hardtop body and few nice bits laying around we thought we would build a car to really shame out those dickheads without the worry about destroying an original matching number bock.

We used a good old trusty 351 Cleveland. Dropped on some XAGT 4 dot closer chamber heads, 780 holley and hit the streets. Nice clean looking car. The dickheads came and let them have it. In one of these little runs we dropped a rod. No problem have few 351 around we put in another bottom end. That was my plan.
Things got out of hand a little. 5 month later the XB rolled out again. Now she was black. Had 31 spline axles, bull nose toploader from a big block mustang, haze 600hp clutch and best part. "Her new engine". John Cain in NSW was the man in those days bringing in the good gear from USA. We took a drive to New Castle and picked up a Nascar 4 bolt block, A pair of super cobra heads with adjustable rockers, Weiand tunnel ram, pair of 660 Holley centre squirts, roller rockers, stud girdle, Carrillo rods.

Handed the whole lot over to speed boat engine builder. The result 648hp..
Damn that car was fun. Only got about 3 mile to the gallon, but mate the power.. Fuel stops were the local airport, avgas its diet.
Attached her dyno sheet.

That's some serious mumbo from that Clevo Quicky. That engine would have worked nicely in the little car below! We ran mid 9s with "only"  510bhp, which was pretty stout for 1972. Camshaft design and headwork has come a long way since our 44-80 Isky flat tappet cam and iron 'fuelly' heads. By modern standards, our engine was a streeter.

This thread has evoked memories from over thirty years ago and a time when I had time to hold down a job, race motocross, drag race and play rugby union. It was all so easy. Now I'm retired, don't race motocross, don't drag race and my rugby action is played on the couch watching a test match. Why then do I seem to have less time to do shit than I had back then? Oh to be young again. ;D
Here's another shot I uncovered of the old drag racer from 1973. Shit we had fun racing that puppy!
note shiny almost new VG Valiant Pacer in the background. It fits in with the original thread I reckon!
