Thanks Mick,

My uncle gave me the 240z which was very nice of him as it was his first car it looks pretty good in the pic but it needs a respray and I will do the motor brakes suspension and interior as well and it should be a great fun car to drive around, my uncle didn't want to sell it so this way I will get it done and he can get to drive it again too. :)

Bazza I will spend some $$$ on the motor might buy some triple webers to replace the double su's they don't weigh very much at all so with the inline six a bit worked it should fly, I have seen them with 350 chevs under the bonnet but you wouldn't hold it on the road.

That is very cool Tim I see a few thunderbirds around here great looking cars and 460's are a beast of a motor definitely a good buy at that price too. :)

What year Monaro would that be?


My nephew just found this in his archives, it's the only known photo I have of this car, wish I had taken more pictures of stuff I owned over the years.
This photo is all the more rare as I hardly ever had the bonnet up on this car.



Had trouble trying to sell it back in 84 too, love to own one again, they were a great car

What model Derek? The 02 era "Pontiac GTO" model or an early classic? It's kind of ironic that I drive a classic Jaguar XJ-S V12 here in Oz. It's some sort of cultural exchange ::).
I was in London in 1980 and after a heady night on the Watneys Red Barrel (awful piss) I walked onto the road out the front of the pub and nearly got run over by a VG Hemi Pacer Valiant. I thought I was seeing things and dismissed it until a couple of days later I saw the same mustard yellow Pacer parked in High st Hownslow.

How many Aussie muscle cars have made it to foreign lands? I know there's a lot of XA-XC Falcon coupes that have made it to America and I once saw an FJ Holden ute at a rod run at Parker Dam in Arizona. I also caught an HK Holden Belmont taxi in Mexico City. It turned out that a shipment of them were dumped onto the Mexican market in the late 60's. Over the next fortnight I ended up seeing 4 or 5 including one station wagon...all taxis.

Firko when was that?It speaks volumes for reliabilty of the early Holdens.I always see a couple of magged and dropped HQ,J,X utes and sedans around Bali when we go there.OK for the open road but a bit tricky for around town.Having said that there a plenty of locals getting around in Hummers!

1978 Paul. The Holdens were old even then and pretty knocked about. I spoke to a taxi driver and he reckoned that many had become taxi's in '68 when they were new and guessed that a dozen or so were still being used by his company 9 years later, not bad for a country noted for the high number of shitboxes on the road. BTW, the HK's were badged as Chevrolet Belmonts. Later on in the trip, a fellow back packer from Oz reckoned he'd seen a HR station wagon earlier in his Mexican travels.

Geoff a young bloke a few years older than me who lived around the corner had a new SL/R about 75/76,used to pull the birds something fierce.Did it work for you?When I got my license I stupidly avoided sedans and went straight for a panel van(obviously overestimating my abiltities even then).It was good for when you got to drunk to drive home from parties or the pub and just crashed in the back,or you and 10 mates had to get somewhere.Things might have been a lot different if I'd been behind the wheel of an SL/R...... ;)

 I owned a few pommy machines that are collectibles now, which one of my mates claimed was odd 'cauze I was always rubbishing pommy sh** box motor cars.
 Perhaps I spoke from experience!.
 When I get the tecnique for scanning slides [not doing slides I find that awkward nowdays also] I will show some on here.
 I will add that some of the British vehicles I've owned I would dearly love to get back

That's a sweet lookIng HR with Monaro look fluted guards. I had a HR panel van,192,x2 headers and twin stormbergs. There's a black HR ute outside a panel shop on Victoria rd west ryde at times. I think the same one was on parramatta rd taverners hill (beefies to you Firko) for many years.Back in the  day I wanted a HR X2 wagon with a 4 speed, as an 18 year old apprentice I didn't have enough cash to buy it.A HR is on my bucket list.
Bultaco Metralla, Matador MK 5, Montadero mk2, El Bandido model 18,plus lots of bits and two Honda XR's 250,350.

The SLR was 9 years old when I picked it up, the birds I hung around with back then didn’t really know what it was so it didn’t help me that much.
I did the panel van thing too, I had a HK before I got the SLR.
Yeah it could be handy at times but it would often work against you with the chicks.
They would all think I was only after one thing.
I was only after one thing, but I didn’t want them to know that.
I think leaving smelly old riding gear in the back probably worked against me too. ::)

Did all sorts of things to that van trying to make it go fast and handle good. 192, Yella Terra head, extractors, Cam, 5 speed Sigma box, heavy duty sway bars etc. I even fitted Monaro guards to make it go faster too.
It was all in vain, the SLR was bog stock and it would run circles round most things on the road, I realized then how much time and money I had wasted on the Van.

Frustrated look probably came from trying to adjust the timing only to find that the retaining bolt that held the Dizzy down was impossible to fit a spanner on.
That motor was a tight fit in the Torana.
It ran okay so I just left the timing as it was
