I would probably not have bought it if not for the done V8 I am looking forward to buying some more tools engine hoist, rotisserie and mig welder to get cracking on it I also have a datsun 240z to do up which will be a fun car too but I am going to need another shed soon.

I am lucky to have mates that do panel beating and upholstery etc etc so I am not short of help probably get my mate to spray the charger for me.

We are getting a bit of a collection going dad has the xy and xc and I have the charger and 240z. :)

Anyone able to add to the story of the shortened up factory ute with the triple webers. This thing was sent to Italy to get tuned and then returned. They then developed the suspension at Mallala in South Aust.
I think the shoretned ute was to simulate weight. The testing was done in secret but was observed by a local farmer who was being paid by the  Holden dealer Team(Harry Firth) to report if he ever witnessed the Chrysler team testing.

No one could believe they would use a ute. About 15-20 years ago this ute turned up in Revesby at my mates mech workshop for a service. The young guy driving it was aware it was a bit special but it was pretty rough,he worked somewhere local as a boiler maker.
As with all good stories he never came back with the ute again, maybe it's in a shed.I think it would be worth some big dollars because of it's history.

Bultaco Metralla, Matador MK 5, Montadero mk2, El Bandido model 18,plus lots of bits and two Honda XR's 250,350.

Have heard about the ute story not 100% sure on the details though I seen the story on moparmarket.

Thanks Hilly looking forward to getting it done the old bloke I bought it off the owners dad is keen to see it done too he was the last bloke to drive it I will go back when it is done and let him take it for a spin again.

I seriously would have drove past this charger 100 times but I had only noticed it not long ago as I was a passenger and I was just looking out the window and my eyes lit up and I said Dad there's a charger back there do a u turn. ;)

I like my job too because I get to go to so many houses and see so many other blokes toys sometimes I end up coming home late if I get stuck talking cars or bikes to a customer.

19 mopars at my 50th  8) 8) 8),Frosty it probably has the "K" frame inserted for that engine,# 2 son had a police  charger we stuck a 318 innit, matador ,was charger with webbers went to Italy in a chartered boeing, thats the "famous" poster on the dyno with the extractors glowing transparent cherry red down the firewall & out of sight, mopar made more power from the 6's,they didn't call them lazy 8's for nothing ,ford rumour mill thought up the phase 4 ha ha ,fastest prod "family" car for quite a while(look it up ;D),1st V8 engine in OZ 64,(65?),what did holden have? snigger snigger, even the 1st R series motor was 215,then 225's,go the penta stars, :P
work, the curse of the racing class!!

Very cool it does have the K frame it is a proper job I wouldn't call mine a lazy 8 though it sounds pretty lumpy has genie extractors another intake manifold and carb etc etc.

I won't be able to drive it for a while though which is a shame I could drive my dads two 8's on my learners but I cant now couple more years to go on the P's.

Having said that I am able to ride whatever size road bike I want now so I don't know how that works can't drive a lazy 8 but can ride a 300+kmh capable road bike. ???

Love Chryslers my mum has a Chrysler 300c tourer with the 5.7 v8 love the style of that thing goes very well too all my family likes cars. :)

Also there are two other chargers I know of here one is a mercury silver 318 auto VH XL and the other is a Limelight VJ 265 4 speed.

That ute was recently in a Aust Muscle Car mag and is currently undergoing a full restoration.  A very unique part of Mopar history in this country.  I could check which edition if you like.

A mate of mine when I was young his father was head mechanic at chrysler australia when they had the factory at Revesby, last time I was in sydney I think the factory was called Goyen controls. He also had the wheels from Alvin Purple's charger on his blue chrysler sedan family car and also had a race motor from I think it was Leo Geoghans chanel 9 sponsered charger. He used to bring lots of valiants home before they were even in the dealers.Looks a bit rough frosty but by looking at some of your bikes it will turn out a treat, those wheels are getting rare as well and becoming sort after don't change them keep the updates coming. My uncle used to work down the road from the old chrysler factory at a place wich I think is still there Stevo's smash repairs uncle was a tow truck driver and they had the fastest tow truck in the area wich I think was chrysler powered that was 30+years ago.Another mate dave sammut owned a wreckers in St Marys he ownes and loves old valiants he has a very quick tunnel rammed 360 charger maroon with chrysler by chrysler big chrome front,a drifter van all original body and paint in immaculate condition never been restored but has a shit hot 318,and a very quick old yellow dodge tow truck.Don't know if he still has the tow truck as he sold the wreckers a few years ago.cheers.

SIMO,Thanks for that if you can let me know that magazine edition,my mate would be interested I'm sure because it still comes up in conversation at times. I wonder how short it actually is,and whether it would be able to fit a Bully in it. CHEERS.

Mine has a chrysler by chrysler grill but I will swap that back to VJ I don't like the CxC front I should be able to sell it or trade for a vj one though.

Going to buy myself a engine hoist and rotisserie and mig and get cracking.

Hi Matador.  I have located that information on the Mule ute, it's on page 32 of issue 59 of Australian Muscle Car and it follows up on the big Charger expose they did in issue 58.

I've scanned it for you but can't figure out how to post it up here.  I can post pics up but not sure how to post up PDF's.  Send me your email address via PM and I will email the article for you.

PS. Here is the grill on my Chrysler  :):

Cheers
Craig

That Chrysler is a beast Simo very cool.  ;)

I got my 240z today it is very quick in a straight line but needs front end and suspension done as it is handling pretty rough at the moment.
