Not VMX, who does guns???
« on: June 03, 2015, 09:39:37 PM »
So I don't get on here much these days, partly because I don't have a lot of bikes anymore and partly because I don't have the time or finance to use the little I've got all that much. I've found myself getting back into the sport of shooting/hunting a bit more these days, doesn't cost a lot to have a good arvo walking around blowing a few bunnies away or whistling up a fox or two and can be a lot of fun. I bet with all the alpha males we have here I'm not alone, anyone else do a bit of hunting, target shooting, trap?? I'm also looking for a Brno model 2 .22 if anyone has one!!  Yeah I know thus isn't the place for this chat but I just figured I'd throw it out there, what's the worst that could happen? Someone starts an argument.... ;D ;D

Cheers, Brendan

I've also been looking around for another rifle and these are the websites I've been looking at.  Some have more listings than others.

This'll be a great second post... haha
Shooting's my other favourite hobby, behind dirtbikes. I have a Brno No.5 .22, a Mossberg 802 .22, a Brno Fox II in .22 Hornet, a Tikka M55 in .17 Remington, a CMC Mountaineer in .222, a 1941 Husqvarna M38 sporter in 6.5x55, a 1917 Enfield Lock No.1 MkIII .303 sporter and an old Laurona 12ga U/O shotgun.

Good to see a few others chiming in, G45 I'd like to get my hands a few nice Brnos like you have. A friend of mine once had a cmc mountaineer in 222, shot nice n flat but geez it was heavy!!!

They were my grandfather's, which is the only reason I have them. Sadly, Brnos, especially ones as nice as these two, are well out of my price range ;D

No.5

Fox II

CMC .222

Tikka .17 Rem

.303

The little Brno Hornet would have to be my favourite; It's lightweight, accurate, packs enough punch to put down anything I'm likely to come across while I'm out and about on the family farm (it's a rare thing to come across anything bigger than a fox or feral cat out here) and is just so damn handy. Not to mention that it's cheap as chips to run; it absolutely loves the Highland/PPU ammunition, which was $16/box the last time I bought some. I mostly reload for it (and all my centrefires, with the exception of the 6.5x55 and .303) though, 10.5gr of AR2205 behind a 40gr Winchester .22 mag projectile seems to be the hot recipe.

funny you should say that....
I still have the Winchester 1906 22cal my Dad gave me when I was 12. I had a BSA 22cal and 177 cal slug gun then and he thought it was time to progress to a "real" gun. the crazy thing is by todays standards I use to take it to school to show my friends, that was, a bus trip, and hour + in the train to Town Hall station in Sydney then into school - imagine that now.....
My son still shoots it at Mums place near Uralla when he's not riding the RM; good times.
Also have a few others but sold all the bigger rifles (308 and a 22 250) when we sold the farm a year or so ago - the 308 was like having the power of God but could take down a Deer no problem at all; if you could see it, it was toast.

I still have my B S A  air rifle  211 the grand kids use it for target practice in the back yard
one uses the BSA and other one uses a little Diana air rifle.
that little Diana you can see the pellets come out and drop 500 mm in 50 yards
but they love it they will go through  a packet of slugs in a weekend..
they love it when we go Fox shooting with the mate and his Fox hounds..

We both hunt, EA and I, her favourite rifle is a Smith and Wesson branded Howa in .223, Mine ? It's gotta be my M38 Mauser in 6.5 x 55. here's the latest freezer filler taken with it from about 100 yards, early this Tuesday morning.

I don't have it anymore, but used to have fun with a Remington 700, heavy SS barrel, in 17 Rem.
Factory ammo was hard to come by, it was all hand loads.
I used to enjoy trying different loads for accuracy on targets, and exploding plastic bottles full of water at 100m.

I also shot service match for a long time with a .38 S&W.

This kind of fun is SO difficult now, the Nanna rule makers have got their way.
Only seriously keen people jump through the hoops now.
Of course there seems to be more lunatics with (illegal) hand guns running around than there has ever been.
But at least target shooting is dying - vomit.
