Thanks Sleepy.  The red curve is the standard and for an extra 7 Euros you can get the second (blue) curve put on.  Then it's selectable.

Blue looks like it would give about 4 or 5 deg more arround 8000 but if you set the static 4 or 5 more on the red there would be bugger all difference. Still with the 2 curves it may be a bit easier to get the timing correct by the seat of the pants. Does it swtich between curves with a handle bar switch?

if you get it timed for best power at around 8000 the rest will be close.

Tony actually spends most of his time WFO, so i'd be thinking he needs something that works best at around 11,000 rpm  ;D

Yep, as long as it makes power between 10 000 and 11 000 I'll be right  8) 8)

OK.  Here's the HPI curve for the ignition for the model they suggest.



Just looking to compare with the original.  I found one for a 465 but obviously quite different.

Get them to supply a few extra pistons for the holes you will put in them with that curve. Especialy on that curve 2. Looks like a amature guess/stab in the dark. Will run good down low then come to an abrupt brickwall around 7000 then hole a piston if you keep reving it

I realy get a good laugh form your posts. Makes you wonder how 2 strokes ever ran with a pionts system without curves.

I've been down this road before and at the end of the day you've still got 34 year old components that can crap themselves with no real notice >:( >:(.

Just looking to see what's available, pros / cons etc.  I don't have as much cash as I once did so .....

That is why I'm saying Betta Bikes. Throwing good money on ( supposed ) cheap fixes never works. Get him to install modern electronics inside your old ratty original elec housings, seal up and look at it in another 34 years. Just like others are doing with forks, shocks and motors. Your bike. To be honest this bike has always annoyed the shit out of me for one reason or another.  If it wasn't such a shit market I would sell it.

Ute is great.

You have easily the best model in that class. If you had it looked at from top to bottom by a qualified mechanic, John Tate, Teknik or Ross McWatters, all of whom know how to build  the best race bike out there, bar none, and opened your cheque book you would realise how good your bike could be.

This is what i do, much to the amusement of some on here. I go to work and pay professionals to do what they specialise in. While i earn more than they do it makes sense to do it that way and it is done right.
