YZ 250H Ignition Advance Curves
« on: April 02, 2015, 09:05:36 am »
Hey Guys,

I'm doing some research on HPI ignitions and I want to compare the advance curve they provide with the standard Yamaha Curve.

Is anyone able to help ?  If the HPI ones are any good you can get the entire ignition for the same price as getting a coil rewound  :o :o

Thanks in advance for any assistance given.

Cheers

The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.

The aftermarket item has more of a J shaped curve than the standard u shape. You can also get them in chrome.

Unless you know what your doing or have access to a dyno a programmable ignition will be hard to get the most out of. In saying that I have yet to put a programmable ignition on  and not find great gains straight away. Ignition curves don't vary much, it is more about being able to tailor it to your engine

Thanks Guys (well thanks Lozza).

I wasn't going to get the programmable version.  For 7 seven euro's I was thinking of getting the selectable curve option (only one other curve).  Just for shits and giggles.

I might give it a go and see what happens.  It replaces the entire ignition so ......

I'm not that big on keeping it all standard.  I just want the bloody thing to go. >:(

Hopefully the HPI option won't be a disaster.

Here is the conundrum without knowing the advance curve prior to purchase it is hard to know if it is going to suit the bike. That's why I say put that money to a programmable.

Tony, Do you wanna dick around with shit in the faint hope you may save some money or do you want it to work properly.....guaranteed. If the latter send your stator, rotor, cdi, coil, spark plug cap and kill switch to Steve Warnes at Better Bikes.

Are you back again this year Hilly? Bring a CR brake rebuild kit while you're at it. And extra food for Phil.

Geez, you guys are harsh  ::) ::) ::)

Lozza, the HRI kit shows the curves of their kit.  I'm looking for the curve from Yamaha so I can compare them.

Am I making sense or do I need to just burn the bike and go fishing  :o :o

I've not had a timing light on a 250H but my guess would be it's not much of a curve, probebly just a bit retarded down low for starting and fairly flat from the mid up. Seen a couple of those HRI ignitions fitted recently and they work ok just had to run them a little more advanced than they recommended.

OK.  Here's the HPI curve for the ignition for the model they suggest.

Just looking to compare with the original.  I found one for a 465 but obviously quite different.

Do you have to choose a curve before you buy it?
Remember you will only be running at race speed between 4000 to 8000 rpm were there is not much changing and if you get it timed for best power at around 8000 the rest will be close.
