BSA in 24 hr road trial
« on: July 11, 2014, 09:23:25 pm »
We all have locals that we look up to and admire for many reasons [living legends].

Tomorrow the SA 24 hour road trial begins and from Whyalla SA on a 1961 A10 BSA, Malcolm Rasmus and Rob Luxton are lining up for an adventure not many would contemplate.

The sidecar that Mal's dad road to 24hr trial victory in 68 and 69 is venturing out again with these two [slightly crazy in my eyes] boys at heart to test man and machine.

No stranger to a sidecar, Mal and Rob themselves have won the 24hr trial in 92 and 93 aboard an XR600.

Wishing them the best of luck and look forward to seeing them finish.

I'll be in trouble for this post so I hope you enjoy it
Cheers Troy

That's keen.
I've seen a photo of a course marker arrow - the top of it is about three inches out of the water... Not the ideal conditions for anything with British electrics, you'd think.

Hope they make it! :)

Im hearing you Nathan, two things that hopefully will over come this is they both know there way around a bike as good as anyone and are as stubborn as they come.
So if anyone could achieve this mighty feat, its these two.

"Most people that participate in sidecar events are not weirdos"

Let me please reword the above crude statement, which is subtle in suggesting that some of us are frothy mouthed, raving lunatics.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Bloody hell, what an amazing effort. I too hope they finish, I take my hat off to the side car guys at the best of time, let alone at the 24hr. I rode the 24hr once, in 95 on a KTM 300, and I remember on the last lap in the  morning, coming across a sidecar that had managed to get through the previous day, the night and most of the last lap only to have the chair wheel break off with only about 70km to go... poor buggers were still trying to make it home by riding it sort of on an angle, an awesome effort. I never did find out who they were or if they finished or not. The 24 ranks right up there in my opinion as one of the toughest, but most enjoyable rides I have done, and the effort everybody in S.A. (the clubs, organisers, riders, support crews, landowners etc) puts in for it is amazing.

Except it's in Sth Aust in the middle of bloody winter.

Their effort will be extraordinary in anybodies estimation I think.
Ronny Chadwick rode a similar ex-24HR Trial outfit at the Classic Motocross Nats up here a yr or 2 ago and it was flat out making it up the hill :o

My mate (who is competing on a modern sidecar), said almost exactly the same thing (like almost word-for-word).

wow love the sticker on the tank - veteran and vintage mcc Kadina , that's where I live , that club is still going and my father who has ridden many 24hr trials ,and won in 1980 , is still a member of that club, he is 70 now
just for a bit of history , my father is the only one to have finished a 24hr on a 125 sidecar , has tried once in late 70 to do it in a cz 125 sidecar but didn't finish . tried again mid 80's on a Suzuki ts 125 sidecar and finished
have a uncle that has about 40 starts in the 24hr !

I went and saw them at the start at Kapunda then went to section 3 to watch but sadly they did not make it that far. I dont know what put them out though.

Was also expecting to see an old KDX200 getting around. What happened Nathan, did you start?
