Rear sprocket Gaurd CMX/CDT
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:31:18 pm »
Been reading the new MOMS tell me if I'm wrong, it states:

12.8.8.6  Other than CMX/CDT a chain guard made of a suitable material must be fitted in a way to prevent trapping  between the lower drive chain run and the final drive sprocket at the rear wheel

that means to me no chain guard required!!!

That's terrific, I've been holding off welding a brackets on my nice nickel plated swing arms until I could get the nerve to do it, now I don't have to. That's great news.

So Mark, are the moms the gospel or can your local club make you fit one and a bar pad to ride club events. Who overrules who basically?

Cheers

Don't take my word as gospel but I think MoMs rules over all Ted.

it's also the same with footrests

12.8.5 Footrests other than CMX/DT Footrests must be:

a) well rounded and designed so as to ensure that no dangerous edges are created due to wear
b) Not touch the ground at lean unless they are hinged or pivoted and controlled by a return spring

In CMX it states up to and including pre 90 Folding footrests must be fitted nothing about springs!!

Ted your local club does not require you to wreck your freshly painted illegal swingarm ;D ;D ;D to fit a guard.

BUT your local club does require a bar pad if you want to ride. It is in your local club rules that you signed off on when you joined the local club. Your local club is thinking of your dental costs ;)

I actually disagree with that based on the fact that the club is a member of MA and is bound to follow the rules and regulations laid down by the governing body and if you challenged the club ruling they legally would be left without a leg to stand on.

Much the same as Sup Regs can have special requirements club rules can add extra protection. Many Junior clubs required neck braces even though they are not required under the MOMS.
