Ted, I have $300 titanium light speed ones on my modern KX450 & can't tell the diff (when riding ) with the stock YZ250H ones!!

It isn't about what they feel like but the safety side of it. If you think a no name peg is safe go right ahead and buy a truck full.

Brad, I may be wrong but the standard yammy ones are made in Japan , like the rest of the bike....not YONGKANG ZHEJIANG CHINA or the other pair on here from POSTOFFICE CHINA

I will never dispute that logic BUT that doesn't mean every item we buy must be the highest priced of its kind available, those that wish to fall into the traps of the modern brand name oriented world are mostly only fooling themselves.

When you come up short on a jump or just have a heavy landing and one the things break, you'll be wishing like fluck you'd missed this thread altogether as you're spending the next two years recovering from a severely traumatised leg.
Whatever you saved won't buy you enough jigsaw sets to while the months away...... :'( :'( :-X

Some people are in the wrong sport. If helmets weren't  compulsory someone here would be telling you to ride in a beanie.  ::)

cAn any one tell me why you need wide pegs on a pre 78 bike,Both my bikes have standard pegs and work just as well as they did when new,did people modify there pegs back in 77 or were wide pegs unheard of then.
Cheers

I had a big landing a few years back, and broke a foot peg off  , the sharp peice of metal left on cut a huge slice in my boot.
200mm or so :'(
I never fell off or hert myself ( but I was bloody lucky and glad I was wearing motor cross boots not slip on work boots )

I put bigger and more grip pegs on my bike , because the org ones had small and worn teeth on them.
( brand new NOS ones still have small teeth on them as well ) (  these are yamaha ones by the way )
I had trouble in muddy weather ,when standing on the pegs my foot would slip off at times.

You dont have to buy "bling" bits, my KX250A5 that I'm in the process of doing has had 2012 CR450 pegs, springs, pins and brackets (they have alloy frames and use a bolt on steel bracket) fitted to it. I know that they will not fail and will last many years. Too me its a no brainer.....its about safety....not dollars. Wether you spend $1000 or $10'000 doing a bike you are going to ride/race....whats a $150?.....gee, some people smoke and drink way more than that in a week. And big Scotty, try it, you might like it. Remember, these bikes where never meant to last this long and most guys are way heavier than back in the day and the reflexes/fittnes/riding ability is not what it used to be....in my opinion they also spread the weight better on your foot not to mention the better gripping ability.

I wondered about the cheap footpegs so put one on a bike, put piece of 4x2 on it and smacked with various hammers. Finished with 20 good hits with sledge hammer...didnt break.

You would never ride with slip on work boots I am sure.

Thongs? Maybe but no big jumps!!
