Goes to show you how much of a tough crowd there is when doing a nos bike. I have a bike that I will do one day. Been collecting parts forever. I know what I'm in for and it will be echoing in my mind when doing the resto.

Nice job, but too bad the engine is the wrong color. Someone had to say it!

So I am restoring a 79 CR250 and understand about tahitian red frame which I assume is gloss but what colour red is the engine.  Is it the same colour with a satin finish?

Does anyone in Aus have a contact to obtain the red paint?

The correct color is a flat/satin not red, not pink, but somewhere in between. I have had it formulated from NOS engine case at my local auto paint supplier. The trick is to paint all the engine components from the same batch you mix, the damn stuff NEVER sprays the same & if you paint the parts from different mixes you are sure to get a slight mismatch.

Thanks for that. It was obviously high temp paint?

I did what bigk said and used the same paint to spray the engine and tank / frame. I used a dulling agent to make the engine cases look flatter and the frame / tank retained gloss finish.

What I used was just a good quality 2 pack paint and have not had an issue with heat (barrel and head).
