MA certainly had the last say, as Slides points out, Dave, I can tell you that the Canberra club looked at all possibilities. It was far too expensive for the club to run both eras, even to run just the Pre '85s as Australian Championships as well as the rest of the earlier Classic Championship classes, as was proposed to MA, would have cost ANOTHER MA permit fee of a few thousand dollars, three grand I believe.
The Junior Championship class was proposed to MA, as it is listed in the current GCR's as a class for an OZ title, only to be told that the Supp Regs would not be approved if they included the Junior Classic class and the reason given was that the Junior Aussie Classic class SHOULDN'T have been in the rule book.
Also, given that the Evo class now has the same age groups as pre '75 and if all classes were well subscribed, it would have been well nigh impossible to get through all the classes combined in two days with a meaningful number of rounds.
Also, to quote the GCRs,
The Classic and Post Classic divisions will be run seperately at the Australian Championships,however consideration will be given to run both events under special circumstances
The above is to the best of my knowledge and I'm not having a shot at anyone.
I resoundingly applaud the efforts of the Penrith Club to run a NSW Post Classic DT meeting and EA and I will be there with bells on.
As this is the first year of the Classic / Post Classic split, lessons are there to be learnt and hopefully applied to next years events. If anyone has anything to say about the subjects discussed , it would be more than useful to say it to the members of the MA Classic DT and MX Commission.
I re-iterate, I'm not having a shot at anyone, that's just how the cookie crumbled and hopefully I'll see ya at Canberra in October
