Good news thanks Nathan.  Apart from "DID" and the rim size, the only markings on the rim are "5DB" and "587R".

5DB could be 508 ?

587 is the one. Forked if I know what that is, though.

Yeah, in my traditional style I will probably spend a few days trying to polish the rims, get the sh1ts and buy new ones anyway.
I put a value on the amount of swearing things cause me.  Polishing rims to a decent standard is one thing that has high "swear value".   It is so much easier to get new ones and just lace them up.  Having said that the rims that are on the bike are in pretty good nick and still have the original DID stickers on them.  I'll give them a shot ... for a few days  ::)

WOW....5 pages discussing a shock, hub, and a  wheel with no apparent work being done.

Welcome to the worlds first 3,000 page resto

If the neighbours are far enough away, buy a pot & hang a tarp.
The more you want to do in one hit, the better off you'll be.
Oh yeah, wear a mask.

Hey Tentpeg, Are you and Jai one in the same?

How does piss off sound  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I think you are cutting me short on 3000 pages  ::)
So far I have found out I have the wrong swingarm and shock and the right rear hub.  The resto is practically finished now  ::)
Wait till I start asking questions about tags on the frame.  Will be riveting stuff.  Right up your alley  ;)

Slidey the next door neighbours are a fair way away.  We all have an acre each where I am at the moment, so it's free reign  ;D.

At least we had something Yamaha to talk about for a change  8)

Yep, getting a new stem turned from stainless.  Using easy to get standard type/size seals - not those back to front OEM things made of unobtainium.

I just hope it works  :o.  Haven't heard yet wether he broke the triple clame getting the old stem out.  I'm sure it will all go smoothly  ::) ::)

Stainless huh. You will get at least 12 months out of that before you will have to CHROME it. ;)

The YZ250C saga continues
« Reply #71 on: March 07, 2012, 07:46:15 pm »
So I have had a closer look at the frame that came with the dodgy swingarm and shock.  Looks like the rot continues.

I was given another frame when I purchased the "bike"

There are a number of differences, so I will defer to the experts on here as to which frame is more correct.
Pictures tell the best story.

Frame loops at the back

Airbox/chain guide
Frame A

Frame B

Frame Gusset Frame A

Frame Gusset Frame B - note slotted hole

I suspect Frame B is closer to the correct one, athough I note that the gusset part of frame A is the same as a YZ250B I have in the shed at the moment.  The serial number is very early as well.  Is it possible the frames evolved through the C model ???

Sadly frame B has had all the engine mounts carefully hacked off with an oxy torch  :'( :'(  just need to swap the mounts from the other frame.

Is Frame B the way to go ?

Something going on with the top of the steering head as well.
Overall shot here

Also note the 2 things that look like oxy torch lighters are on Frame A (and the YZ250B frame), but not on Frame B  :-\

First pic: left frame (Frame B?) looks right.

Second/third pics: Frame B is right, frame A is hacked.

Fourth/fifth pics: Don't know, but am inclined to say Frame B is right.

NFI about Frame B's steering head?! Well weird! More photos please...
The 'oxy flints' are part of the tank mounts - the stop the tank rocking and fatiguing the rear mount (not always successfully...). They are the first casualty if a different tank is fitted.
