Nice bike. I have the same model as you. I hate to disapoint you but that big metal tail light you have is correct for all 82 - 84 Australian model PE's. You are very lucky to have that still on the bike. Definitely hang onto it as they are rare and hard to find.
The 82 has many unique differences. If you do a search on this forum you will find info on them. I have posted it before.

I thought it was the rubber mount the same as the '81' as thats what I kept getting told as I was informed that the '82' 250 was a run out of the '81' as I cann't find any info on a PE250Z in OZ as even on www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm I can only find the 250 to '81'X as if it is the factory for the '82' thats cool as I got a complete working spare with the bike  ;D

Well you were told wrong ;) The metal tail light is correct. Its also the same as the 81 French and Belgium model light.

No it was not exactly a 'run out' or a 81 with new stickers. It was a proper new model (82 Z) and probably has more differences from the 81 than the 81 has compared to the 80. There just was not many sold or made because by 82 they were a bit outdated and the competition was single shock and all the new development went into the 82 175 Full Floater that year. Because USA could have what they wanted, they asked for a Full Floater 175 first. By the time 83 came it was all a bit late and Suzuki started building on the 4 stroke DR line and the 250 and 400 PE were forgotten.

USA did not get 82 250 and 400's. Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia and a few Euro countries did get them. That is why there is no 82 PE250 on Alpha-sports. USA 82-84 175's kept the rubber 81 tail light though.

Have you joined here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PEmotorcycles/ from here you will find access (read FAQ in files section first) to 82 PE parts book and i think owners manual. If the owners manual is not there then you should find it here
http://pureenduro.free.fr/Mod/250_1982.html

You can even see the worldwide market sales brochure. That came from me. The Australian brochure is the same except it has the blinkers on the bike. I have not been able to find a hard copy of that brochure but i have a large photo given to me of a 82 PE400 Australian brochure to know they do exist.

Yeah it's not bad eh  ;)
I'm also looking at getting a set of the DC plasics kit for it as the factory plastics are still on the bike but have been painted  :-\  but keep the originals
Also I'm looking for a second hand sports muffler for it as the factory is still on the bike and hasn't got a scratch on it  ;D  so if any one has one they can help out with would be great ;)

FMF do a aftermarket universal muffler you can find on ebay, but if you want a direct bolt on get a DEP from www.motoduro.co.uk or custom made one from GMC in Australia.

try these

http://pureenduro.free.fr/Div/documentation/PE%20250/manuel%20suzuki%20pe%20250%20Z.pdf

http://pureenduro.free.fr/Div/documentation/PE%20250/part%20list%20SUZUKI%20PE%20250Z.pdf

On the link i posted above in earler reply you just need to click on the 'lien' next to manuel d'entretien and parts list, but anyway the direct links are above now

Do you have a link to a FMF pipe that you are talking about

On ebay USA  search for FMF universal muffler. Now this was my experience and i dont know if it was a one off or they are all like that.

I ordered by size and as the pipe OD is 1" & 1/8 i thought i should order the 1" & 1/8 FMF muffler as i assumed they would be like most brands and the size on the packet refers the ID of the muffler inlet. But when i got it i found the ID was more like 1 inch and the OD 1"& 1/8. No good so i ordered their 1" & 1/4 universal muffler and perfect fit, it was 1" & 1/8 on the ID and 1" & 1/4 on the OD so i figured the size they list refers to the OD not ID.

On the PE forum, look in the photos section and go to the folder 'aftermarket parts' in there you will also see a pic of the Universal FMF.
They have a turbine spark arrestor so they are like the orignals and not too loud although the new DEP's are surprisingly quieter than i was expecting too.

Another option is a Universal Answer muffler. I think there are still some NOS ones listed on ebay too.
