No it was not exactly a 'run out' or a 81 with new stickers. It was a proper new model (82 Z) and probably has more differences from the 81 than the 81 has compared to the 80.

Trav you can still get front guards and sidecovers new through suzuki unfortunetly not rear guards and headlight plastics or tanks.

Trav...try not to 'restore' that bike, it's way too original. Remember, a bike is only original once. Only replace parts that need replacing with simiilar patina'd parts to keep it looking right. Most people would rather see an unmolested survivor than a blinged up show queen. 

USA did not get 82 250 and 400's. Canada, UK, South Africa, Australia and a few Euro countries did get them. That is why there is no 82 PE250 on Alpha-sports. USA 82-84 175's kept the rubber 81 tail light though.

I doubt that Australia got any PE400Z general release. My 400Z was brought into Australia as a pre release evaluation / magazine test bike by Suzuki but from my research it was the only one as Suzuki pulled the plug on releasing them as they figured the PE had become too dated. The bike was supposed to have been put through the crusher but it remained under a tarp at Suzuki HQ for years before a back door deal was done and it passed on to Geoff Eldridge who it tucked away in preparation for the probable advent of Vinduros. Unfortunately he was killed in an accident in the Nevada Rally so his partner Vicki hung it on the wall with some of GE's other bikes at ADB's Warriewood office until the magazine was sold to EMAP and the bikes auctioned off.

Yeah he has a Z for sure i know that plus a couple X/T's.

Yeah ONE more thing - the fork tubes had a microscopic change.  NOTHING else.  If you can think of something else, then it would disagree with the parts catalogues for the X and Z sitting on my desk.
Dead set, the Z was a NOTHING bike. It was the 250X with stickers and little else.

Luke I strongy agree that the Z was only a  case that they  left over stock from 1981 production run and it was a mater of a few Cosmetic changes and we will call it a Z.  Trying to Sqeeze 3 years out of a bike was going to be a bit of a gamble

I know what you mean as I'm just fixing up things that need doing as I was looking at replacing the plastics so I can keep the originals so they dont get damaged and the same for the muffler as if I had a spare original I wouldn't replace it

New plastics from possably DC plastics
New decals
Sports muffler so I don't damage the factory one (a got a freeby I scored today I just need to clean up)
Sort out the throttle as it's a bit sticky

I agree too...I didn't even know our PE was a Z model until I put photos of it up on the forum and folks started telling me it was some sort of oddity. That prompted me to trace its history and I learned the story I related a couple of posts back. With no intention of offending PE owners, I've never been much of a PE fan, much preferring my Maicos back in the day and these days my Yamaha IT 175 or 250. It's kind of ironic that although I've never been a Suzuki fan, I own more of them than any other make .

Firko, I got mine a while after that is why I haven't been hassling you.

But if you want to sell it you know I would be interested I have been collecting parts for my PE's.

For my 400z the other day I bought a nos tank didn't want to tell anyone till it arrives and thats why I also got a nos speedo etc etc etc.

I have got the rear taillight too and nos lens for it so soon I will start on mine I'd love to buy a nos headlight and rear guard but can't find one, thanks Michael.
