Yeah ONE more thing - the fork tubes had a microscopic change.  NOTHING else.  If you can think of something else, then it would disagree with the parts catalogues for the X and Z sitting on my desk.
Dead set, the Z was a NOTHING bike. It was the 250X with stickers and little else.

 Sorry to be anal but the 4 stroke DR line overlapped the PE line and came to a halt at much the same time. The DR500 was about the last of the twinshock bunch and got pretty much no updates, though I've been told Germany got two different motors. There was a world wide recession coupled with a jump in the yen's value. That was what killed of development

Dr 500 ended in 1983  and big brother came along in 1985 being a  Dr 600 with fullfloater rear end.

Does any one know if the PE's came with a tool bag on the rear fender at all or is it just an after market thing as I'm looking for something to carry some basic tools and some minor spares for when I go riding out bush with some mates.

No tool bag from new but not a bad idea to have one especially with a plug spanner and spare spark plug. :)

Thats the idea mate along with some short tyre irons I have and a punchure repair kit and spare chain link.  ;)

Okay I pulled it down a bit today so I can respray the motor as it was done with a cheap paint that looked brown when the sun hit it  >:(  and looked at fitting the aftermarket pipe I got as a freeby but it didn't align the main pipe up properly so I put the factory back on just to discover it now has rust holes in it (about 4) so I think it's time for a new pipe  :-\  but on a good note I noticed the carby internaly looks brand new ;)  and has a new airfilter and the bore and piston looks in excelant condition  8) and I've got some pix below

Just needs another muffler then not a big drama the originals arent repackable without cutting off the end cone don't throw that one away though it is fixable and it is a good original bike if you ever go to sell it you want all the original parts. :)

Don't worry mate what ever I replace with aftermarket bits I'm going to keep the originals for it as I know you just cann't get them.
Tommorow all going well I'm going to try and fit the new front shoes and brake cable, new bars and try to sort out the throttle (a little sticky) and see if I can get the brake light switch working on the front brakes as it's there but just doesn't seem to be working at the moment as see what else I can do  ;D

You can still get alot of parts for the suzuki the motor looks good with a respray.

If you check here what ever comes up as available is available through your local suzuki dealer, just check under 80 81 pe250 they are the same most parts.

Trav,going by your dogleg levers,remove your brake lever and check if it has the cut out near the pivot point of the lever as what the original levers had.

Geez i cant believe all the work i did to my PE250T in short time and i haven't bothered to buy a chain and stickers to finish it off in the last 3 or so months.
Kind of have major CBF's with m/bikes at the moment  :-\

I like the dogleg levers for an easier reach for me
I came up with this tonight,drilled 4x1mm diagonal holes on the rear face of the lever.
I mixed up the resin after Doc's info and my failure to look at the parts catalogue  ::)
The back of the lever is semi hollow,that allowed the resin to flow through the holes and fill the hollow area for strength.
I had to go out for a few hours anyway and came home...straight to the shed.....and cut the resin to shape and did the little cutout for the plastic slider.
Put it back together and "pinned" out the wires with my multi meter and it works a treat  ;D
I'll keep a look out for the proper levers but this should work fine i think.

Thanks for that monaro308 as I had a quick look and it is missing that bit so I will figure something out but not today now as it's a nice day out and I'll keep the missus happy and go to the markets and shopping instead.  ;)

Does anyone know if the stand spring on the Z is different to the X as my stand is very loose and it has a brand new spring on it for a X

It shouldn't be different the Z stand is the same besides the bottom foot you can still get a new stand but the t/x type only I tried to order the Z stand but it had superseeded to the t/x model.

I have pe's in the shed with very loose stands if they have been hit and slighty bent they go pretty loose.

My 400T had a heap of slack with the original stand I replaced with a new one and it is a heap tighter also on the stand up top if it is worn where the bolt goes through doesn't help.

Also any wear/bend in the pins doesn't help.
