Sorry for giving the credit for the bike to Iain SA. It turned out pretty darn good, especially considering its humble past. You'll be surprised just how well these puppies go. It's become expensive to build the pre '70 icon bikes these days...side piper CZ's have reached legend status, Squarie Maicos are almost in the same league, especially the 350/360/400 version, orange tanker Cappras and boat tail Pursangs are as rare as honest polititians and the British stuff has always been expensive. What he have left is the humble RT1/DT1 (
and TS250 Suzukis of course)which are so cheap that you can build three competitive bikes for less than the cost of one of those fancy Euro jobs.
Keep us informed on what it's like on the track........
Mark the Sonic rigid frame bike ,is that a f/glass clutch cover ? no kick shaft hole no Yamaha embossed .One day (soon I hope ) I'll get my grubby paws on a Cheney and a Hindal, anyone want to sell ?
Iain, I reckon the cover is a standard cover with the lettering filled in with bog and sanded back for the smoothie look.
Good luck finding a Hindall DT1 frame, Harry only made 6 and there' weren't too many Cheney Yamahas made either, double figures I believe. I reckon your best bet is to find a Rickman Zundapp roller or bare frame and build a close aproximation of the Mk4 Rickman DT1. The Zundapp frame is very much like the Rickman DT1 and they can be found all the time on eBay....Here's one
