Yeah, it's taken me 20 years to work it out though ;D.

But look at it this way - you have given them 20 years of fun. And probably saved some other poor sucker from the same fate.  :)

The genuine RT1MX I owned back in the day was a yellow striper. 1970= yellow stripe, 1971= red stripe.

Firko that Cheney is a beautifull bike  .
Thanks Bill, it should go to match its looks when I get the new motor back from Lozza. He's doing the ports and supplying and fitting one of his trick ignitions. Frank's already balanced the crank so I'm looking forward to taking it to the Nats.
As pretty as she is, wait until you see the other Hindall DT1. I reckon it's sensational. ;)

How about a DT1 in flat track trim......a DT1 powered Sonic rigid frame.

This is the DT1 many of us wanted to build back in the day- the legendary Cycle Guide 190lb DT1 from 1971. I wonder what ever happened to it? It was one very trick piece of gear.

Sorry for giving the credit for the bike to Iain SA. It turned out pretty darn good, especially considering its humble past. You'll be surprised just how well these puppies go. It's become expensive to build the pre '70 icon bikes these days...side piper CZ's have reached legend status, Squarie Maicos are almost in the same league, especially the 350/360/400 version, orange tanker Cappras and boat tail Pursangs are as rare as honest polititians and the British stuff has always been expensive. What he have left is the humble RT1/DT1 (and TS250 Suzukis of course)which are so cheap that you can build three competitive bikes for less than the cost of one of those fancy Euro jobs.
Keep us informed on what it's like on the track........

Iain, I reckon the cover is a standard cover with the lettering filled in with bog and sanded back for the smoothie look.
Good luck finding a Hindall DT1 frame, Harry only made 6 and there' weren't too many Cheney Yamahas made either, double figures I believe. I reckon your best bet is to find a Rickman Zundapp roller or bare frame and build a close aproximation of the Mk4 Rickman DT1. The Zundapp frame is very much like the Rickman DT1 and they can be found all the time on eBay....Here's one

This is what Spanish started with...now it's another pre-70 bike out there, built to be ridden & enjoyed - a job well done, Chris!

Thankfully I can look at what my RT1 should look like just by coming back to the yellow stripie on this post. Unfortunately mine is not even a bit pretty, but as long as I have fun with it and don't do any non-reversible damage or mods to it, in the long distant future somebody can restore it with out cursing a previous owner. Me!    cheers pancho.
