Honcho head
« on: February 09, 2011, 03:23:37 pm »
Here's one for you Suzukiphiles. Did anyone make a trick head for the Suzuki TS90 Honcho? Webco, DG, ACK ? I've got a slight inkling that I might have seen one made by Webco but can't be certain. Part 2 of the ask is.....if anyone's got one would they be willing to sell it to me, even for silly money or I'll swap a whole engine for a trick head. ;)

Can't say I've ever seen an aftermarket head for a TS90 or TS100 Firko but that's not to say they didn't exist. You could carve something uniquely shaped from a stocker..there were a few different fin styles ;)

Mark, now you have my attention. I had a new TC90 in 72 and I have just bought a TS90 Honcho. Picking it up from Batemans Bay this Saturday. You know I can't remember anyone making an aftermarket head for them back in the day but I may be wrong.
Here is a pic of my TC90 when it was new (proof is the desert boots Mark  ;D) and a bit of nostalgia for Huskibul.

Stan.

I love those little TS90 Suzukis. No bike fought out of its division better than the Honcho. I've got three of the little buggers but the reason I want the head is that I'm intending to build a trick Steens pit pike. I've got a frame and tank and not having a Hodaka engine I've decided to use one of my Honcho motors. I've got a trick Torque Engineering pipe and would like to tart the little thing up as much as possible.
Here's Jonesys Steens for those who aren't familiar with the little buggers. Imagine A Suzuki TS90 instead of the Hodaka and you'll get what I'm doing

Its hard not to like those little Suzies.

I came accross this 100 rotary on a recent holiday.

I thinnnnnnnnnk the odometer was in miles(unsure). but it did only have 500 miles or klm's on it. He wanted to sell it to me. I normally would have bought such an original home. but its time to draw a line in the sand. And the trailer was already full ::)

There was a kit for sale back in the day for TS90,s.
Radical rotary valve , 100 cc piston and cylinder and an expansion chamber.
Made them go like a stabbed rat.
Bit of a handfull as they used to just go wooshkaaaaa aaaaa aaaaa aaaaaaaaa. :)
Mate had a full kit in his and did a drag race between it and his new TM125.
The 90 did very very well.

After reading this post I'll have to drag my TS90 out and get started on that ::).

BUT, my TS90MX is on the way so that will be taking priority. ;D

Firko, if you want a real kamakazi machine I can give you the hot up specs from the MX90 motor or from the TC100 I have here that was modified to Suzuki hop up specs and used for road racing!

Imagine a mini with a screaming TS90 motor! :o

On a side note. TS90's were made up to 'about' 1976. These were mainly for the JDM and were just a sleeved down TS100 ;) I do like the 90's but it's actually the TS100 I cut my teeth on, as Brent said, these 100's are infact a closer relative to the TS90MX moreso than the regular TS90's. Clear as mud.. ::)

You just made me realise something Doc. I could never work out why the TS90MX was called as such and why they were 90cc when they were based on a TS100. Your comment about the Japanese market getting the TS90 up til ‘76 made it all clear.
Our TS90 was superseded by the TS100. While it shared a lot of parts with the TS90 there were some major differences. The frame, pipe and tank are certainly different and the 100 has a longer wheelbase. I think some of the gearbox internals will interchange but the cases and cylinder are different, the cyl stud spacing is wider.
The second Japanese TS90 was a de-bored version of our TS100.
For what ever reason, tax maybe?, the Japanese stuck with 90cc while we got the 100cc version. The MX90 is 90cc because it was a JDM model and based on THEIR later TS90, if it was exported it probably would have been a TS100MX.

And to make this post relvant, I don't think I've ever seen an aftermarket head for a TS90 but I do wonder if the factory hop up kit had a different head?
