$131 mill donated  to help out flood victims.
Ripper.
Anyone want to guess how much will go in wages for the people handing the money out?
Oh cynical me. ;D
Sorry Noel , I was going to stop doing this but the temptation got too much. :D

Has anyone got any inside running on some decent Politicians to vote for at the next election. Maybe someone who hasn't forgotten who they represent and where the money for their wages comes from ........... I fear the cupboard is bare Mother Hubbard and sadly what we have now is as good as it's going to get.  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Upgraded to cat5 overnight, never had one that big before on record. It will blow Cairns to buggery and even the tail winds will be as strong as a cat2 as far south as Townsville.

Yeah I was reading an insurance company assessment and they mentioned in their damage report that less than 50% in the flooded areas had the full home contents and car. I think they are thinking of shareholders rather than policy holders. Either way avoiding to pay out looks like becoming an Olympic event  >:(

Good luck to our NQ comrades. I hope you and your homes and businesses all come out of this in one piece. No place deserves the shit weather that's been thrown at Queensland over the last couple of months.

Just checked the scope and it's the same size as Katrina that hit New Orleans. over 1800 died in that though I suspect in a much more populated area.
Willis island is the weather station out off Cairns and its 4 keepers were evacted late yesterday-just as well as it stopped working as the storm went over this morning-the equipment has been blown away!!

and it was below the water line, so major part was flooding due to failure of levy.

However that is not to understate the seriousness of the cyclone at all. With 20 feet of storm surge and 290 km/hr winds good time to get the hell out of dodge.
