Almost finished my 86 240 WR , gave her the first kick in the guts today and it started on the second kick [ Oh JOY of JOYS ]
That,s with a COMPLETE DT175 ignition fitted , flywheel - stator and cdi. Have tried the $18 [ Ebay ] chineese CDI and coil and they work too.
Happy , Happy.
Now to finish scrubbing the brown stuff off the Fuel Tank. :)
And try to figure out the rest of the wiring.
Oh and fit some real fork seals from the US and NOT the new leaky ones that I got from Ebay. [ Watch those ones , they look like real ones but aren,t ] :o

Will post pikkys over weekend.
Big job if you have to pay someone .       Ok if you have a small lathe and some sort of idea.
Was first put onto this by HuskyAU on this forum. He has used a later PE setup [ later ones are ideal size and weight ] but finding a flywheel is a real pain.  I searched the world with no luck. Found one stator which I later sold to FROSTY.
Later PE ones are bigger. Early Pe flywheel is too small I rekon. Could use it but motor would be a bit revvy . Chineeze flywheel is OK but the CDI trigger has nowhere to go without cutting the crankcase. Would have liked to use it because you can get the lot for $55.
So I tried a 85 Dt one, works good although it fires on BDC as well. [The way its built ] No probs with that tho.
I had to take the centre out of the flywheel and make a new one with the right taper. Also machined both the backing plates to fit each other. [ pain getting the clearances right ] Pe would have been better. Dt flywheel is a little bit heavy too.
There are 3 different tapers on Huskys so the DT might fit one of them but not the 86,s. :'(
Bought a CDI to suit the DT and also got a Chineeze one and made a kit one to try [ All work OK ] I Am using Chinese CDI and coil on this one. but later Husky[ 98 ] coil works too. [ Has an external CDI so is just a plain coil ]
All works no probs.
One small thing  . The Dt is 6 volts. ::) Bummer

Mike..I'm really curious as to which Chinese ignition you used and it's suitability to suit a 2 stroke. I've got a couple of these ignitions, one earmarked for my Ducati 250 and I'd like to experiment with the other on a 2 stroke, possibly one of my DT1/RT1 engines.

Um, it might just be me, but it seems like an awful lot of work & mucking around when you can just get your SEM or Motoplat repaired.

Yep Bigk you have a point there.
BUT
I have a rewound SEM here [ dud ]
I have just bought a Wr 400 with a DUD ignition.
Mate has a 84 Wr 240 [ on 3rd motoplat now ]
Another mate has a 250 Wr [ ignition DUD]
I had a Montessa King Scorpion [ Dud motoplat ]
Yep a lot of trouble to go to BUT I have never heard of a DT doing it,s ignition and if they do it is sooooo easy [ and cheap ] to fix. :)
Cheers Mike

Yep...and I even sent a Motoplat away to Geelong...when it came back it was only working when going in the wrong direction ..anticlockwise... :(......now run PVL...but a bit exe.....so any cheaper alternative would be nice...and to tell you the truth ..I am not all that fussed about the quality of the spark on our PVL's..even with an earth wire fitted between the stator and the coil...
