..I am not all that fussed about the quality of the spark on our PVL's..even with an earth wire fitted between the stator and the coil...
I've got PVL on all of my Maicos and one of my Yamahas and I'm starting to believe they're nothing flash in the spark department myself, not to mention being a fair bit overpriced. Sure they're pretty reliable but so are Maico points magnetos. There has to be a cheaper modern style CDI alternative. As far as Motoplats, I was cured of them years ago. I had the same "backwards' experience as Watt  with the last one I had rewound. I hate 'em.

All my Huskies still have SEM or Motoplat, no drama's. The ones I have had repaired, both SEM & Motoplat, no problems. The biggest mistake one of you made was sending it to Geelong! No need to go into the nitty gritty but if anyone out there has those thoughts, NO! The guy who does them for me can be a tad slow, but they have been spot on so far.
Cheers,

......now run PVL...but a bit exe.....so any cheaper alternative would be nice...and to tell you the truth ..I am not all that fussed about the quality of the spark on our PVL's..even with an earth wire fitted between the stator and the coil...

Save the pennies, a HV stator/rotor with a programmable ignition is currently being boxed up to send here. Will be cheaper and far better than the teutonic shitters ;) ( the flywheel bore will be blank to machine to any taper) Will run clockwise or anti clockwise. With the matching coil will have a spark jump a 20mm free air gap

I wanted to drive to North Geelong to get a pe400 stator rewound to 12v but reading this makes me think that it might not be a good idea there is only 1 in geelong that does stators so I assume that is who you are talking about I don't know them I just know where they are so bad idea?

I'm going to give the 'Lozzignition' a try on the Cheney RT1. The shiny rotor won me over. ;D

LEFT to RIGHT , Dt , Husky , Chinese , PE. The euro ignitions are too fragile for my liking.

Chinese ignition . The trigger sticks out too far to use in Husky . Bummer . Cost $55 complete.

LEFT is original DT flywheel centre . Right is the first attempt at a centre to fit the Husky taper. Clearances wrong.

DT flywheel with new centre installed.

ONE of the reasons why I did this . If you look closely at the magnets those little lines are cracks. Just waiting to explode.

DT stator fitted to 86 240 WR. I am going to put this ign on the 400 and use the early PE on this bike. [ Flywheel closer to the right weight]

I do like that ignition of Lozza,s. Wonder what they cost? I can buy new SEM copy for $400 locally but I don,t trust them.

If you want to play with this stuff then this guy has some good ideas and the CDI unit wiring diag is the same as in the above Chinese CDI.

Mike there is a pit bike ignition from Chinese ebayer JR MOTORSPORT PARTS DEPOT. I bought a load of Hydraulic clutches of him and his bits are cheap as and spot on. He has an ignition with a smaller rotor, which should fit in the cavity. There is also a DC/DC pit bike ignition but that is the same size(105mm rotor) with 12v output

Only be a week or so before the shiny new ones are here. They will be PC/hand held controller programmable I got the manufacturer to make intergrated silcone dust caps for the interface. Just pm me if you want more info

All the standard Husky problems.
Ignition  POPPED , ignition cover screws done up too tight , plastics chalky [ But tank Ok??] Rims cracked. Sidestand loose.
Someone has had a go at painting the plastics and managed to paint everything except the tank.
Painted the fork sliders too. Got the hub and backing plate while they were at it.
Exhaust has 1 small dint. JOY. :) Forks are knackered but I have a good spare set.
Someone has cut the front and back mudguards off short for some reason known only to them ???
Nice compression with no rattles.
Radiator is still full of coolant ,which is surprising.
Bike is in a lot better condition than the 240 was when I bought it for $400. :o
