Was that the reason? I always thought that it was because the flaoter had too many moving parts and cost too much. But yer that was the year , though Burnsworth and co's bikes already had the new linkage type rear ends in 85.

Apparently the US guy who invented the full floater system pulled the plug on suzuki and kept the patents locked up in his basement...he got pissed off over some minor thing and told them all to f off.

Is it just me , or does there seem to be heaps more 'big' names in this era than today. These days (to me) there are a couple of big names a the rest are also rans.

I thought it might have been just me too, or maybe that I don't follow the moderns enough.
At the Hangtown National in 85 I saw all the heroes of the day like Bailey, Glover, Breker, Ward, Hannah, O"Mara, Johnson, Lechien, Lackey, laPorte, Dymond, Kehoe and Liles.
And not to forget other household names like Hammond & Kerr

The racing of the day saw Lechien run away with the 125's, everyone else was an "also ran"
Bailey and Glover duelled all the way in the 500's, Liles couldn't get close let alone the rest.
Ward won the 250's but it could have gone to a few of the others, allthough some of the "heroes" had had their day.


It's a bit like the touring car thread in that perfection seems to rule to the point that it becomes boring when one learns how to dominate. The thrill of the race is not knowing the outcome at the start

HAHA. yer I was trying to remember Dave racing but couldn't - forgot about the crutches and I was holding up the course marshall from memory.

If Lackey was there he would've been spectating.. he retired at the end of '82 and made a one off appearance at the '83 USGP.
I can imagine how good that Unadilla race would've been, there was so much depth of talent back then.

Yer thats what I thought but I wasn't 100% sure .We all got different memories after 25 years.
