I'll start off with a couple of "whos", #92 is Wagga's Loyd Richards on his Hagon Speedway Springer and, of course, #30 is Watto.

I well remember Lloyd Richards little giant killing XL250 Honda slider (Elstar?). After the inaugural Aussie Classic Dirt Track Titles in West Wyalong in '94 I accused the bike of being a bigg'un in the press but upon tear down it proved to be OK. I later apologised to Lloyd over a beer in the Condo bowling club and wrote a little piece setting the story straight in ADB.

Must be Oltimers or something, how did I forget Kevin Condron's number ??, from Wagga as well, Kevin rode in the inaugural South Coast Cup in the mid nineties, as did Lloyd and I'll never forget the bit of biffo dished out on the speedway bend at Canberra, years ago, when Kevin got speared into the fence along with the lad that caused it !!

It could be Griffith but I think it might be West Wyalong. ::)

I love that photo. Two more mature gentlemen and a couple of young guns. One goes on to become probably the greatest slider/dirt-track rider in Australia.
I think early '80's maybe'83. Might be at West Wyalong and Aussies vs ?

I'm thinking Griffith, taken on that cleared area behind the starting grid.
I have only been there once and have been wrong before.

Yeah Slides, that was where I was thinking cos where the cars are parked looks wrong for West Wyalong.
Pete or Lenny will know.

Mark, you're right about the mix of experience and raw talent in that shot, I would like to know a bit more about the meeting etc.
And I think Watto is the best !! saw him at Nepean a couple of years ago, still as fast , still as smooth.

This arvo, Pete sent this photo, courtesy of Lenny Norris, to me. I think it is an absolute pearler of a shot !!

" Seems like another life ago, me on a 500 Godden on a Hagon speedway springer, well before the classic movement."

Pete and Colleen are off to the USA end of this week and , like last year, they will send pix etc to me and I will post them on the forum, I hope they both have a great time, and I'm really looking forward to following their progress.

What a great shot, let me guess, Griffith?
I hope he lost those green leathers, supposed to be bad luck is green, brother Carlos even went to the trouble of cutting any green out of stickers.
I really upset him when he first rode one of Ivan's factory Jawas at a Longtrack meeting in Canberra, I deliberately hung a green wragg out of my back pocket, he wasn't impressed, I nearly lost another tooth.

I got this photo, courtesy Greg Summerton, from the JAP Engine facebook page, I would kill for an 8/80 engine !!

From Greg Summerton
Tony West and Rob Brown on this Summerton engined 8/80 JAP powered sidecar won the annual Mildura Wintersun Classic last Saturday...soundly beating the Vincent oppostiion 3 times out of 4 while the others fell by the wayside....some of them literally. That makes 3 very happy people...and one relieved person, me.... Great to see an old JAP still beating up the Vincents!!!

Listen to it being warmed up , before going into battle, here,
