Don, Good to see you getting involved in the VMX/Dirt Track scene by way of posting some great images from way back when. Can you fill us in on the history of the Howstar. Seem to recall that that was the bike you were enter'd on in the late sixty's/early seventy's. Was that a reference to the frame that was maybe designed and manufactured by you or am I way off the mark.

You are spot on. The Howstar was built by myself using a 250cc Bultaco pursang engine highly worked running on methanol. The compression ratio was so high it was difficult to get the head gasket to seal when the engine was cold. This bike was built when I was a B grader. Later to be sold to finance my first speedway bike.
Can anyone guess who #32 is? He hails from Kurri Kurri district.

Did he ride Speedway in England?

No he did not. I do not recall him riding speedway at all. He works in the same underground mine that I currently work at.

Who is the rider in the background? He was a member of Mayfield MCC.

Is it a Saxon. If not must be about that vintage.

No it's not Terry Saxon but you were correct, it is the same era. The rider in the background is Noel Haggerty. I think his son dabbles a bit on the cinders tracks these days

#32 rider is Alan Elliott from Kurri. I think the track may have been Heddon Greta after it was shortened.

What motors in the 323 ? husky ?

It was a Husky 450cc in a Godden frame. I was sponsored with the bike from John Harris Motorcycles who used to be located in Belmont. The shop is now Trail & Track.
