has been asked before ,......but why were the race no's all high back then?

Because all of us who rode opens needed to pay for a dedicated number, believe it or not there WAS that many riders going to opens.

 The 'restricted'meetings (non opens) were generally 5 ways and sometimes 10 ways.

 Plus the one man one club rule was enforced.
