I joined my club, Central MCC in 1967, when it was predominantly a Short Circuit club..........by 1977, mainly due to having our own MX track Dargle, owned by Alan Smith, we were 90% an MX club......I was the only Central rider at Griffith... :(

Hey Jim,
Stan Burgess worked with me in my first job as a Fitter Machinist apprentice at Gem Engines in Revesby. Small world, I think he passed away ages ago.

Cheers

Hi Steve,
Griffith just keeps on going, I was reading this mag yesterday (it is a few years old) and read the article it would be interesting to see which club has been active for the entire period. Alot off clubs have folded  then restarted as sprint car, speedway,TT cars, stock cars, clubs then back to two wheels. GMSC Inc have had all the sports but predomaintly had bikes. Any way it is a great shot, the Box tree to the centre left is still there next to our current start gates . Think the Greenies would love us for that trees still grow with oil in their roots.

Dave, I'm the unofficial founder of the Griffith do DT best party.
Not to forget the Swinger's scene as you described previously.
There's a few of our old DT's that would still have photo's from arouind that era but very few have maintained the rage like you guy's.
The big question for all DT's in OZ is OIL v WATER?

Let me know of any other club that can run at 25 races per hour . We  ran our interclub Riverina Golden Wheels 116 races under lights in five hours including a half hour dinner break . I think OIL just is OIL the best .

Mmcc's first club day this year ran 157 races over about 6 hours. Surface remained consistent for the full length all day.

I believe the environmental harm issue with oil is rubbish! Mmcc have used it to suppress dust since 1969. The entire track catchment discharges at one location into the neighbors dam. Simply put, it just doesn't make it there. If the track was deco, the club would be excavating the dam every year.

obviously it needs to be handled correctly and if somewhere had the potential for affecting neighbors an oil & grit GPT would do the job.

the oil used is waste oil, the water used costs money and is a needed resource. MA should pay me to research the pros and cons

Yep, Griffith Rulz and Oil rulz. Fantastic track. I agree with Steve as well.  The only thing that buggers up Griffith now are the
bumpy bits on the infield. It was WAY better without them. I have some pics of the track taken in the early '70's ,....Saturday
before raceday and it is just pristine.
regards  Mark

Mark,
We have to cater for both disciplines(hence the lumps in the middle) DT & MX our club works well this way DT do the sign on & marshalling for MX & reverse for DT. The track is still sweet,  got a fresh oil on Friday, ripped surface & grade.
