I was confused as a Holden mech where the blazes the name FX came from, according to the GM school that I went to, the first Holden model was designated 48 215 series, then the utes were I think 51 2104 series etc. In the trade these became known as 'series models'
I first heard the expression FX was in Tasmania where my brothers mates were racing 'series models' Holdens
WARNING: Thread hijack.I heard that the FX designation came from when they were designing the Holden in Detroit and later testing the pre production Holdens in the Aussie outback and in the snow country in Canada the car was designated FX, short for "Factory Experimental'' on all of the paperwork and design drawings. The motoring press got wind of the new top secret "FX" from leaked test photos and factory paperwork so for want of a better designation, they went with 'Holden FX' that was written on all of the leaked paperwork. By the time the car was released as the 48-215, the FX name had stuck and the rest is history.
