I think it's a green HD and directly behind it is a cream HR. I tried a 400% view and it's still hard to tell,to me you can see the indicator in the HR grille and not so much in the HD. My HR was tricked up with a HT grille.

Ahem, it's a thread about Dt images and not old cars.

Nah, just kidding, I don't give a shite and love the cars from that era as much as anyone.

Its a HR under the Umbrella and next to the grey EH panel van I reckon is a HK wagon!

thus we are looking at a 68 era picky.

As ol mate said, not everyone would have the latest model, thus a few vc's a few Hr's.. a ship load of Eh and Ej's etc and a brand new HK wagon....

I suspect you're correct about the HR under the brolly but reckon it's an HD or HR wagon next to EH van.

Agreed but it's more about dating the photo than the cars themselves. To know for sure when the photo was taken, we need Morley to put a date on his Kembla MX appearance. Where are you when we need you mate? I tried to date it from Morley's ride but all I can recognise is Ceriani forks and what may be a nickel plated frame. It appears to be a single so it could possibly be a Matchless Metisse which would date the photo into the 64-66 era as I think Morley was on 2 stroke Yamahas in 1968 (HK Holden and DT1 era)...........fluck, I'm turning into a train spotter ::)

The bike that Jim Airey broke (and held for years) the Sydney Showground lap record is owned by my mate Chris Ellis. The Jawa 2v is identifiable by the welded on boss off the cam drive where a Hilborn fuel injection pump was mounted. The bike was fitted with a hybrid McGee/Hilborn fuel injection system purely to break the record as it handled the 90% nitromethane load much better than a carby. Airey only used the injection a few times before he went back to carburetion and the pump drive blocked off with a plate. I've mentioned it before but Chris also owns the Jawa that Geoff Curtis was killed on at the Showground. Although the bikes look a bit like every other Jawa 2v speedway bike, this pair are historically rather important and have pride of place in his collection.

I was confused as a Holden mech where the blazes the name FX came from, according to the GM school that I went to, the first Holden model was designated 48 215 series, then the utes were I think 51 2104 series etc. In the trade these became known as 'series models'
I first heard the expression FX was in Tasmania where my brothers mates were racing 'series models' Holdens.

pancho.

Anyhow let's get back to 'pics'

WARNING: Thread hijack.
I heard that the FX designation came from when they were designing the Holden in Detroit and later testing the pre production Holdens in  the Aussie outback and in the snow country in Canada the car was designated FX, short for "Factory Experimental'' on all of the paperwork and design drawings. The motoring press got wind of the new top secret "FX" from leaked test photos and factory paperwork so for want of a better designation, they went with 'Holden FX' that was written on all of the leaked paperwork. By the time the car was released as the 48-215, the FX name had stuck and the rest is history.

I get freebie Classic Car Aust magazines( NRMA ) and read a letter from a bloke who claimed they got called FX because of different front crossmembers. This fellow claimed to be welding additional sections onto them in the Pagewood factory and there were 3 versions of the front end. Therefore FX, who knows if he's right not me.

I'm going to get into trouble for this but it's called the Shearer's lament. From the movie,''Friday night too tired,Saturday night too drunk,Sunday too far away.
