J progress
« on: November 29, 2009, 09:30:48 pm »
Just some progress pics on my 125j over the past year.

I wish I took more before photos! but it wasnt to bad one owner with matching numbers and had been sitting in a shed for years with a blown bottom end the plan was to build a tidy ridable bike but things tend to get out of hand ;D

I will post some more when there is some progress.

So very true. All you have to do is put one NOS part on it, or polish one old bit of alloy and the whole thing goes out of control ;D

Looks fantastic, well done.

Hi thanks for all the comments I built this bike up with the intention to ride it but its going to be to nice for the kind of riding I mostly do (SEQ trail ride series and general bush bashing) so I might have a go at vmx when its finnished does anyone know of any vmx racing that goes on around the Gold coast or brisbane? Ive never raced before so It will have to be novice class :-\. Great work on your 125L so far JI if you have any dramas with parts let me know Ive found some US supliers that dont rip me on postage. Also if anyone has any NOS sidecovers for a 100/125j I am interested. ;D

Hi WMC,
We race at Nudgee with the BMCC and all over SEQ with QVMX.
You will fit right in mate.
What a bike great job, I want it now.
Are you in Brisbane?
New parts are hard to find but I am getting there. I may take up your offer if things go dry.

Looking forward to riding with you next year.

Ji

That's too nice to race. You'll have to get another one to do that! I feel guilty about my own Yammie resto now.  >:(

Don't want to be too much of a party pooper but the BMCC club at Nudgee only go up to EVO class, which excludes water cooled, linkage bikes, sorry. The QVMX club go up to pre90 though and race all over the place including the Gold Coast Hinterland area so at least there'll be some rides nearer home for you.

Just out of interest is that tank new or restored?

Cheers

Yeah its restored but I cheated a bit in those photos with silicon spray but with some more plastic polish it really will shine.
ps Bleaching white tanks is BS IMO it doesn't work.

Very nice bike and full credit on the progress. I recently sold my oldJ and a heap of stuff on Ebay to a fella in Newcastle. There was a NOS side cover in the bits. I am a bit partial to the J models and have 3 IT175J's which share very similar Chassis.
Did you paint the swingarm. I know they were originally just aluminium. I'm trying to find a good match to the original for my IT. Keep up the good work.
 Cheers Adam.

Damn NOS sidecovers are hard to get for a 125j I can get a LHS one but that leaves the RHS and airbox cover I'll just have to keep trawling through Ebay. I don't know about IT swingarms but YZ swingarms in that year were painted the colour was called competition silver but you cant get it through Yamaha so I used autothane wheel silver which is close but if I did it again I would find something brighter (silver) but its close enough and autothane is a rellay tough finish (so I'm told) so I hope that helps.

Try general motors silver.  Is a bit brighter that the one you have there.

Just a suggestion  ;)
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible
