Mark

The mighty CCM is getting the Marbelled red seat cover.

Diane and I are off on Friday afternoon to see Geoff Morris at Broadford on Saturday morning to pick up the repaired and re nickled frame

Pete has the engine nearly ready.

This has been a sensational project to date

Still waiting on some parts from the UK.

All being fair and reasonable in the next few weeks we will be real close

Cheers

Is this the real deal? Is it really a CCM with a Honda engine? The welds look shithouse to me so I wonder if it is what it is purported to be? Price looks reasonable if true blue.

1980 JBR Honda CCM. When have you ever seen one of these for sale in the United States. I should say when have you ever seen one in the United States. There was only 26 of these made and this is number 16. I was told by the original owner it was used in the Paris motorcycle show and then shipped to the states were he bought it. This bike is all original (tires, plastic, etc) other then the engine was painted black by the original owner. I am the second owner. The bike has a very small indentation on top of the tank and a little rust on the swingarm were it is braced for the lower shock mount. Other then that the bike is mint as you can see from the photos. I put in one that is a period pic. It has a XR500 engine. $8500

Looks to be a ridgy didge JBR (John Banks Racing) to me. JBR was formed after Banks left CCM so I'm not so sure about the tank stickers?
Either way, the JBR is a very collectable and competitive bit of kit. If only it could find it's way into my shed. I'd even forgo my C&J dream.

While I have no doubt that it's a genuine CCM JBR, I agree with PEZberg that some of the welding is pretty ordinary....very unBritish. It's especially bad on the swing arm gussets and the little frame gusset immediately in front of the Ohlins reservoir. Compare it to the good brazing on the top shock mount and steering head gusset and it becomes obvious that the badly welded parts could be later additions or repairs. JBR CCM frames have a bad reputation for bending and breaking so this frame may have some later repairs. Mark Cooks PES Engineering makes a replica JBR that apparently addresses all of the originals shortcomings.  http://www.ccm-britain.co.uk/?xhtml=xhtml/homepage/default.html&xsl=homepage.xsl

I think you're absolutley spot on the money Mark and Pezberg. Some of the welds are very unBritish like.
Still, it isn't anything that can't be rectified with a bit of time and patience. Seems like a bloody good buy to me. And nearly as rare as the proverbial rocking horse poo....
