He reminds me off a character from a Wallace & Gromit style cartoon in that interview with those facial expressions etc. Loved his comments about chicanes!

But what Guy and the rest of those guys can do on motorcycles is awe inspiring! Getting to watch the IoM TT and Macau is definitely on the bucket list.  8)

That is a cracking looking IT, I never knew I liked them so much until I saw that bike  8)

FWIW some things are great to do yourself however I also don't see any problems with farming the work out when you get results like that.

Suzuki / Thrust Washers
« on: January 31, 2014, 05:20:00 PM »
After some advice, have popped the cylinder off the RM400T and lo and behold there are no thrust washers between the big end of the rod and the crank.

I've looked at the parts diagrams for that model on the cmsnl website and it shows thrust washers however there is no sign of them and a good friend who is also a very experienced mechanic says that he used to own another Suzuki that didn't have thrust washers and said that the rod looked like it was possibly designed to control thrust using the piston.

To me that seems odd given what the parts diagrams show.

So I was hoping if someone could set me straight on whether or not thrust washers are actually needed or not.

Hi All,

As part of the deal when I bought an RM400T last year I was given a set of DC plastics, which was brilliant, except when it came time to mount the front guard. Seems the new one that came with the bike is significantly different to the original one which also came on the bike. Differences include that the guard is a different size and the mounting surface is in a different position and angle with the holes being spaced closer together.

Not being able to access any receipts for the plastics I can't contact who sold them to the previous owner so I am assuming that it's a Suzuki guard, just for a different model/capacity.

As I can't use it and it's taking up shed space I'm happy to let it go for the princely sum of $10.00 plus postage. So if you think you know what it bike it is from and want it or even if you don't know what bike it is from and still want it let me know.

Here are some pics of it next to the standard guard.....

Where has that mop and bucket gone.....that is sex on wheels!

Way out of my budget and I'd never considered owning a slider before coming on this forum. I (and I imagine many others) would love to have that in the garage.

Saw one of these in a 2Wheels magazine a few years ago that some guys had turned into a salt racer, that would have been interesting to say the least!

What a great basis for a resto, almost seems too good to be true.....

Well I thought it was time to stop lurking and put up a post.

I've been in the process of freshening up an RM400T that I purchased a few months in readiness for CD10 after a mate who has been restoring an MX400B twisted my arm to go.......not that it took a lot of twisting.....shame about CD10 but we'll look forward to many other events. I can't make it to Bulladelah unfortunately as it will be too much travel for a member of our crew that is coming up from Melbourne.

This is my third VMX project, first was a 1985 KX250, which at the time I got it, circa 1999/2000, I wasn't even aware of VMX and it probably wasn't eligible anyway, I just wanted a cheap dirt bike and that's what I got......still can't believe I sold it a couple of years later for $900.... Then, a couple of years ago I got talked into getting an old MXer to do up to go VMX racing. The same mate who has the MX had recently scored a 1980 CR250 and I found a YZ250L that was in need of much TLC. Long story short both bikes got finished, never got ridden at an event and got sold to fund to fund purchases of road bikes.

This time around I wanted air-cooled and twin shock and I've always had a soft spot for Suzuki's and after looking at different bikes decided that the RMs are a handsome looking steed, would have loved a 1976 model for year of birth reasons....maybe for the next one.

Well the RM is done enough to ride with some fine tuning to be done to try and get the front brake to hook up a bit better.....surely it should brake at least as well as the MX....  :-\

There are other jobs that need doing but I have it running and I'd better ease off on the spending, considering it was supposed to be a runner when I bought it, not the half stripped machine that I brought home.......luckily the Minister for War and Finance was in a tolerant mood that day....

Anyhoo, not sure how much I'll be able to contribute here but hopefully this time around I'll actually make it to some events, they are built to ride not hide after all  8)

Cheers,
N
