That is a cracking looking IT, I never knew I liked them so much until I saw that bike 

FWIW some things are great to do yourself however I also don't see any problems with farming the work out when you get results like that.

Looks great Ted.  It's a race bike. Should bring it to Conondale at the end of March and race it.

I try to do 90% of things myself and the reality of it is A it takes forever , B its never quite right ( or could be better ) C why am i forking around with shit when i should be earning a quid and and sharing it with others in their field and keeping the economy rolling  ?

I don't have a problem with Ted getting old mate at the bike shop to sort things (nice bike btw Teddles, Steve has one in bits and is jealous.) but don't discount the fun (cathartic) you can have working on your own stuff if you're wired that way.

To be honest Paul I don't have the time. I am always busy with work and what few days I get off I don't do anything whatsoever.

I have tried to build bikes but always come up against something and the whole thing just sits there for ages. Do you cut and shut DG pipes that don't fit? Do you make updated shock and fork internals that are rooted in your shed? Do you mill your own bushes and rollers? Could you possibly achieve in the same timeframe what he did that day or would your bike still be sitting there waiting for parts to arrive.

People come to you to build their house. Why? Because you are good at it and they are not.
Same with a motorbike.

I have always maintained hire the best professionals available to do work for you, just as my clients do when hiring my company to build for them.

Any spare time I get seems to be occupied with picking up, storing and transporting bikes for Qlders.
What is it with you guys, can only afford the bike and not the freight.

Well you certainly did a whole lot better with Nick than I did.
Many years ago I had great service from him etc, last time was a nightmare, that much that I refused to take it back for his, "if your not happy we will fix it for free, or I'll come to you"


But that was but one experience.

Never again for this little black duck, but could have been worse, there were no physical injuries.

Back in the 80's it was almost impossible to beat an IT200 in single track,
Mine had the DG pipe, silencer and YZ125 forks with the twin leading shoe brakes,
The secret was matching the power to traction,
I ran Ten Master Trelleborg rears, IRC VULCANDURO fronts
Another Novocastrian Trevor Ingold was amazing on his, made me look slow,

BTW How are you going with your Popular Mechanics and Fiddlers - Level 1 - course you enrolled in over Xmas. Would be good if you could find someone dumb enough to take you on if ( unlikely ) you pass the introduction exam. Don't get your hopes too high though as the disappointment could scar you for life. Best of luck with your pursuit

Just had a ride on the revamped IT . Dead right Boydy. These things are a treat in the single track. So so so much better than my KX 500 I've been using.What a pleasure to wind it on without it going sideways and upwards at the same time. We'll done Nick. Not only does it look new it feels new

Where the springs out of the B-double enough to hold you up Ted, the popular mechanics course will come in handy now when I put the 84 KX500 motor in my spare 79 KX125 roller. .....maybe when you can control the IT200 motor, I could stick your 83 KX5 engine in it, or better still, I can put it into Liams all concouring RM125B....and a titainium repro/new swingarm?

Either you enjoy fiddling with bikes or you enjoy riding them. No one likes having to fix them when their out riding!

I can vouch for Nick Doles (Teknic) work on suspension. He was the only guy I ever trusted to do suspension revamps on my modern enduro racers back in '02, '03, '04 and '05 and I can honestly say that I always got what I asked for and in short turn around time. Hell, he even got a poxy WR450F to resemble some sort of racer for me.
