I know I'm probably pushing my luck but, is there going to be one, and where and when ???
TMBill and myself, our partners(a couple of bikes ;D) and of course our 'buying governors'("but your've got 3 of those already" ;D) want to make the trip over. We need to start a plan of attack for this great Aussie VMX icon. Shipping, travel, accommodation(camping?), Trying to talk someone over there to hireing a pit tent to us so we dont burst in flame ;D. Getting someone to clear a 1000m radius of snakes, spiders, croc's and anything else that is deadly(Klub Kevlar Magaritas exempt) ;D.
It would be great to put a few faces to the names in here and then have a ride or 2. Of course I know a few sheep shagger jokes will be told, so thats another reason why we need to know the date to learn all our come-backs ;D.
Anyway, yeah as I say I know I'm pushing it but, I got $20 in my pocket and a bike on the truck, I wanna go riding. Bring on CD-5......please!!! ;D

what an event that ride sesson on Saturday was the best ride i have had for years and the longest session i have ever done, my arms were so pumped up after 30mins on the 500 i couldn't hold a drink when i came in.

Hi guys.
Organising CD5 is taking some time (as did CD4) and we have to dot our i's cross our t's before we go public. ;)
Suffice to say, CD5 will be held in 2008, and details of date and location will be officially announced in VMX issue #32, which we are planning to get out a couple of weeks before Christmas. 8)
There should be enough time for our Kiwi friends to get organised and join us. Naturally, it would be great to have them come along and join the fun. :)

Ajay its all good, me and Bill will be ready for the mystery VMX tour where ever it is ;D, we'll just throw on some AD/DC, Hunters & Collectors and Kiss and just rock on down to it. I'm just looking forward to having a few(or alots) of beers with all your blokes and talking the bullshit and bikes ;D. We will try to bring over as many photos and videos of NZ vmx for you guys to look at if ya wanna.(when the boredom kicks in we can drink more ;D), thats if anyone wants ta drink with us ;D. We want to come over about 3 days before so we can find a good beer to drink at the event ;) ;D. Maybe even take in a shed tour while the girls are doing there thing(shopping ::)).

Brent it will be good ta see ya again ;D and thanks for the offer. I would say Geraldo would be busy with his new job and promoting the products he is selling now and Darryl has just started up a MX team so that will have him pulling his hair out(will at least keeping his spare time occupied). Bill and myself have had a bit of a chat about it and we thought maybe a camper van and a decent sized trailer(never know what we'll bring or for that matter take home with us ;D). Of course you and all the other ex kiwis over there will probably be stirring up the Trans-Tasman rivally before we get there and then probably drop it all in our laps ;D. Luckly TMB is fast talking and I will be able to make a quick getaway before the boomarangs start flyin our way ;D. Hopefully me and Bill can bring some lovely kiwi mud with us ;) for all the ockers to slip 'n slide in ;D.

actually one of the best things i enjoyed about CD4 was meeting forum members and chatting, i do look forward to having a yarn as there is some great characters on this forum.

If you don't have a venue, can I suggest that the ACT track (Fairbairn) would be well worth a look? Has a not-too brutal MX track, a dirt track, and possibly some areas for other riding. Plus the ACT club seems willing to allow the track to be toned down for old bikes.
And Canberra is about as far from Sydney as previous CDs have been from Melbourne.

The smart money would be on the ACT
This event is more about getting together and having a good time, and so it should be accessable to more VMX enthusiasts by it's geographical centrality. Perhaps Ken and the team have a demographic profile of readers by now which they are using to establish the greatest concentration of likly starters?

I'll bet my goolies that CD5 will be in NSW, not too far from a major city. No inside info here, just some detective work and recently overheard conversations. It would be nice to see it back at Barrabool though as Broadford was not the greatest of venues but I reckon NSWs got the well deserved nod this time.

I will make an announcement tomorrow, right here on OzVMX, as to the identity of the mystery rider. You'll be the first to know, before it even goes up on the VMX website.
As for some of the other questions (and yes, a more detailed outline of the event will be up on the website late this week or early next week) -
Camping is definitely available at the venue.
The track is being resurfaced over January and we're told there will be a clay base (to cover any existing rocks) covered by fresh soil.

"Classic Dirt 5 will be held on April 25/26/27 at Barleigh Ranch, Raymond Terrace, NSW. Cool
For those that don't know, Raymond Terrace has a new leasee who is putting a great deal of time and money into the facility and if you haven't been there recently, you would be very pleasantly surprised at how improved the facility and track are already, with more improvements due to be in place prior to the running of CD5.
Included in the improvements will be a complete track resurfacing, which should make it very Vintage bike friendly for CD5.
We also feel that the general layout of the Raymond Terrace facility will be ideal for CD5, as it has a natural ampitheatre in front of the track which will form the focus for activities during the event.
As a lot of people ended up jumping the gun last year and turned up on the Friday, we have decided this year to have a Welcome BBQ on the Friday afternoon, to celebrate the Anzac spirit, so be sure to "bring a mate" to CD5. Wink
Once again, it needs to be said that CD5 would not be possible without the generous support of Suzuki, our major event sponsor."

I don't seem to ride it as much as flap off the back of it, so I'm keen to see what your superior skills but, er.. inferior weight can do on it.
And besides, I know that you will have TMB and DJR close by, and I reckon the three of us might be able to exert enough peer pressure to get you to have a beer or three.

hmmm a beer :-\..I'd reckon it's a possibility but only after dark. I can't drink any alcoholic beverage during daylight hours or an instant headache is on the cards as it messes with my eyeballs little veins making them dilate something chronic thus making them extra photosensitive. I literally get blind! :o can blame my ol' bear for that one..she's allergic to 'any' form of alcohol even in the smallest imaginable amounts ::)

Gator, as for the terrace track, it was many years ago i used to ride there but if you can think of a cross between stanmore and tivoli you'll be close.
some nice uphill runs and i remember when they first put in thier double jump,
it was a whopping 15-20feet across.

I dropped in to Barleigh Ranch on Thursday to see what was going on and I'll tell you, there's plenty happening. The venue is closed for all of January for a total revamp so I'd reckon it will fantastic come CD-5. It re-opens in a month so I'm going up for a ride. Should be great.

Just wondering who from Melbourne will be heading North for CD?
I was thinking of doing it over a casual 2 days with a stop over somewhere and creating mayhem for a night. A stop over somewhere like Mittagong, Picton etc then a leisuerly criuse into Newcastle the following day. Perhaps a different idea? Throw em out there and see if we can work something out.

Been working on a new trailer "Chataeu Bahnsy" for nearly a year now. Overall 7Mts long with a 5.2 x 2 x 2 mt box on it. Should have enough room for 6 bikes. I am planning on taking the RM400 and the KX500.
I was planning (planning being a very loose word) on getting there on Friday afternoon and leaving Monday morning sometime. Will have 2 other bods on board plus another 3-4 bikes as well.

The Klub Kevlar Logistics Komittee visited Barleigh Ranch this morning to check out the scenario for CD5. The boys were shocked to find that the whole place except for the dirt track has been levelled to a flat paddock and the irrigation plumbing is being laid out prior to the construction of a totally new track and pit area. They report that a construction crew was hard at it and Todd Hughes, the man in charge took the Komittee on a guided tour of the proposed new track, pit area and camping facilities. Although it appears that there's a lot of work to be done, Todd was adament that the rebuild will be ready within a few weeks and the grass and landscaping should be in full growth before CD5.
Whatever you do, don't miss this great event.

4 kiwis are coming over but 2 could be shopping. Their maybe more but they havnt confirmed yet. Nothing planned oficially DJ. Mike Jolly is coming over as well (he's been to every CD) so we may hold a cocktail reception in the Kevlar Kompound for our NZ and American (and possible Belgian) guests on Friday afternoon to coincide with the VMX barbie. TM Bill knows the ropes for KK get togethers. Bill and Val partied with us at Barrabool.

My partner Karen is over the moon about going over as she hasnt been out of the country before so I told her she better start practising her aussie lingo ;D

DJ....I'm betting we'll see way over 500 bikes this year and I wouldn't be surprised to see 700. Just in our little KK group we're bringing up to 5 bikes each which will total out at 30- 40 bikes in our Kamp alone. We'll have two blenders, two BBQ's plus the Weber, a pre fab bar and of course the bottomless Klub Kevlar girls passing out hors'deuves and bubbly to guests. Expect to see some very cool and exotic dirt bikes in our quikshade this year including the world debut of Black Bettys little sister Violet. Kozel Lager from the Czech Republic will again be the beer of choice and will the free Chili for the starving throng will return. Karen will be well looked after.

I have already told Karen that when us kiwis say six(6), you aussies think we are saying SEX ;), so always ask for a half dozen and if someone wants to see ya thongs, dont drop ya pants ;D ;D ;D

Don't fret. You got your dates all wrong. DD is on April 3-6 and CD5 isn't on until the end of April 25-27. Plenty of time to make both events.
Don't worry about the pissy US exchange rates, its just like the rest of the world has had to deal with for decades.

Based on CD4, provided that MA's maximum number of riders on the track at once isn't exceeded, then it's pretty well a free-for-all.
There was a bit of mucking around with era-specific sessions (trailbikes, then pre-Evo and then post Evo, IIRC), but that fell by the wayside pretty quickly.
Everyone gets booted off for the special events, like the Legends Laps.

While we haven't finalised the schedule for each day as yet, the intention will again be to run riding sessions split up as they were at CD-4. The concept wasn't enforced primarily due to the issues we were having with flag marshalls (i.e attracting sufficient numbers) so the changeovers between 'classes' meant riders weren't getting sufficient track time.
That issue won't happen at CD-5 as we will have full-time flaggies and hence the system should work smoothly. There will still be tons of track time for EVERYONE.

What and where is a motel somewhere close to sydney airport that we can stay at so I can pick my bike up from the Quantas frieght depot.
We are looking at flying over on the Sunday the 20th and I will have to pick my bike up as soon as it arrives in the Oz. I have made inquieries into renting a campervan to transport us and the bikes to Raymond terrace. Its been along time since I was last in Sydney so it will be nice to have a look around again.
Who all lives in Sydney that would like to meet up for a beer??

Given that I've been asked an almost identical question via PM, here's how CD4 worked:
1. Everyone turns up with (or without) their bikes and gear.
2. You pay a smallish amount of money to get in.
3. You pay a small amount of money to ride, if you want to ride (and a small amount extra to get a MA recreational licence if you want to ride but don't already have a MA competition licence).
4. Everyone walks around to meet people, talk bikes, talk shit, buy stuff, sell stuff, and generally check out all of the different bikes people have brought along.
5. Most people get on the grog at night.
6. Track is made 'vintage friendly' - most jumps were very gentle, no whoops, etc.
7. The riding sessions were run with a "get out there and enjoy yourself" approach. There were fast guys, slow guys and everyone in the middle, all with big grins. Blokes with flannos and jeans on old DTs, through to guys with 85 model 500s who know how to pilot them.
8. Nothing remotely like formal racing, although boys being boys, there was a fair bit of dicing going on within the pack. But all very polite, I should add - VMX racing is far less intense than moderns, and this is much less intense again.
9. Everyone gets turfed off the track for the Legends Laps, and then the heroes go out and ride and we all get to comment on how much faster we are than them... :D
10. There's educational/memory lane talks from guest speakers in the evening.
Think Summernats for old dirt bikes, but without the egos or the drunken louts.
The positives are many, rules are few and far between (and are not there just for the sake of making rules).
Downsides? Getting roosted by instant heros who are taking new Suzukis for a test ride and suddenly think they're god's gift, is the only one I can think of.

Summernats without the dickhead quota is pretty right. CD is the realisation of Ray Ryans philosophy that there is more to the love of old dirt bikes than just racing them. Ray always believed that the major percentage of VMX readers were non racing enthusiasts and from Day 1 at Classic Dirt 1 he was proven right. Classic Dirt draws together anyone with a love of old dirt bikes, no matter what size or where they are made . It's an event where former Mr Motocross winners or multi Aussie champions can sit and have a beer with the bloke whose only connection to the movement is restoring the DT1 his uncle gave him. Champion egos are thankfully nowhere to be seen.
Shown below is 1972 Australian 250 Champ and Mr Motocross great Per Klitland in Kamp Kevlar leaning against my old Maico which he later rode. Per wasn't sure that Classic Dirt was going to be his thing until he got there. From the very first moment he got sucked into the event and found himself having a ball catching up with old racing mates and signing autographs. I believe he'll be back this year, hopefully riding the restored OW Yamaha on which he came within a smidge of winning the 1975 Mr Motocross.

If VMX decide the would like to do a DVD on CD5 there's a mate of mine who in the past has done a DVD on a number of Prosepine VMX meetings & also covered bike week on the Goldcoast a couple of years ago & did a very professional job, Hell of a good bloke, loves his bikes and gets good footage that captures the mood of the whole weekend, Iv'e got samples of his work if anyone would like too have look in the past he's coverd the weekend for nick's & just relied on the sales of the DVD's Cheers Lou

Hi - just a quick update on a couple of things that are happening at CD-5 that should be of interest to many of you.
Firstly, MA has confirmed that they will have a staff member in attendance for the whole weekend to undertake noise testing. But it isn't what you think. MA have agreed to test anyone's bike, and give a written report, for future reference ONLY. The event itself is NOT to be tested, as it's not a race meeting, MA have just very kindly offered to be on hand and give anyone that wants it, a report on their bike's noise level, measured of course with MA equipment, by a qualified MA tester. So you will know right there and then if your bike does or doesn't meet the new standards, or indeed if it's close or simply way too loud. You can go back as many times as you like for retesting if you want to do some mods while you're at the event. I think that's a great initiative on MA's behalf and I bet that the tester will have a busy weekend!
Also, YSS have offered to have a walk-in suspension clinic on the Friday afternoon. You can take your bike into their 'tent' and have the YSS boys go over it with you in regard to spring rates, sag, damping and so on. Doesn't matter what bike or what suspension you're using, they just want to take some of the mystery out of setting up your suspension correctly. Again, I expect that this service will be very busy as well, as it should be very helpful to a lot of riders.

The Kevlar girls will indeed be assisting Walter with his suspension tests. It was to be a surprise but I guess the cat is now out of the bag. They will also be passing out free Champagne and hors d'ouvres to passing punters and selling "Win a Ride on Black Betty" raffle tickets. We have to keep the girls busy or they get frisky and want to get naked all the time. Klub Kevlar has more class than that so we insist that they keep their shirts on so as not to offend the wives and kiddies.

If CD 5 is a no water cooling, no disk brake and no linkage suspension weekend would it be ok to bring a Maico `82 ALPHA 1 and ride it?
The reason i ask is i have an opportunity to buy it and would like Les Richters to run his eye over it

That's not quite right Ted. The event is Pre 85, so anything made before then is fine, linkage, water cooling and discs included... You'll be right.

Shows in Hunter motorcycle club newsletter that first speedway/dirt track is 6th April, couldnt see why it wouldnt be available, Ajayvmx what more can you tell us, be good fun to have a blap around the track

The possibility of including Dirt Track in CD5 was the subject of considerable discussion, however it was decided not to include it for several reasons.
The primary reason is that adding the Dirt Track to the CD5 activities greatly increases the complexity and cost of running the event. It requires an additional First Aid crew, organisers etc... It also means that we may have to reduce track time for the MX track.
Another reason is the lack of attendance of dirt track riders at CD4. While there appeared to be lots of apparent excitement prior to the event last year, the reality is that only 13 riders actually paid to ride DT. While this may be slightly more in the Hunter region, it may not also.
In particular, my feeling is that Dirt Track is an activity that is probably far less exciting in the Classic Dirt non-competitive format and this may have been reflected in the attendance at CD4 as well.
Lastly, it's a possibility that the Dirt Track area at Raymond Terrace will have to be used for overflow parking, if the event is very well attended.
Having said all that, (and if the Dirt Track area is not used for parking), there is a slight possibility that a Dirt Track "Demonstration" will take place sometime during the weekend, but please note that the participants in the Demonstration will be by invitation only, in the same manner as "Legends Laps".

Les Richters and I took a run out to Barleigh Ranch today to check out the progress of the upgrading. The construction crew led by new promoter Todd Hughes were really going for it with excavators, bulldozers and bobcats trying to catch up on the time they lost due to the unseasonal rains. Todd assured me that all is well and it'll be up and running in beautiful condition by CD5.
I must admit that I was pretty impressed by all of the activity going on today. Although the track still has quite a way to go before it's ridable, it looked pretty impressive to me once Todd and Roger Starkey explained the layout to me. Bring on CD5!

I've been assured that the track will indeed be pre 75 friendly. The jumps are either mellow ramps or table tops so it shouldn't be that bone jarring.

Hunter racer Kev Crossey has laid a challenge to Klub Kevlar that demands an immediate response. The otherwise amicable Crossey is under the sorrowful delusion that he makes the best Chili Con Carne in the Southern Hemishpere. We here at the Kevlar Kitchen believe that out 'Ring of Fire' Deluxe Gourmet Chili is the rightful holder of that title. We have challenged Crossey and his turgid slop to a Chili shootout in the Kevlar Kompound at a time to be announced during the CD5 festivities. Rumours are also flowing in from accross the Northern border that another 'Greatest Chili' contender is also intending to challenge for the CD5 Chili con Carne title. This particular Queensland racer,famous for his yellow works bikes, is adament that his chili is the best. We are hoping to form a judging panel of VIPs to decide once and for all just who is the VMX Chili King.

1975 grams of rough minced Beef ,(Fresh shovelled road kill, no furry or crunchy bits if possible can be used for North Queenslanders, Plucked Crow South Aussies will win you friends), three cloves peeled garlic , Two kilo of soaked overnight in beer beans, (any beans will do, but must be good Victorian beer ) 500gms paprika , kilo onions , (optional diced carrot, capsicum, cabbage and any other shit guinea pig tucker ya want..) three 500gm jars of "Hot as f**k" Chili paste , 500gms tomato paste, pinch salt for your heart , simmer and reduce down with two litres beef stock and a good hand full of those little orange and red Chillies tossed in. Eat hearty and feel the sultry stinging heat .... more than once...... ;D

The photo of the guy eating the chilli.....he used to be a Brad Pitt look a like until he sampled big Kevs chilli at Glenbawn Dam a couple of seasons ago.....aged him and I couldnt ride next day as every time I farted it blew me off the bike.
The DT1 I phoned you about yesterday was a much later model 72/73 what a pisser and finally is the blender tuned up getting there on Thursday for a warm up with Andrews he is bunking with me the lucky bugger.

That's a shame about the DT1 Suzbulvarna. The white ones are the cool ones. Big Kev is about to get an ego whipping when the starving hoard at CD5 run past his imitation Chili to savour the authentic TexMex flavours of our Ring of Fire delight. Andrews and you bunking down together is nothing compared to Kiwi Jolleys secret room mate. It's a tad scary. The blender is in getting a refit as we speak but there will be at least one, possibly two more in the Kevlar Kompound.
I won't be there 'til late on Thursday arvo as I have to pick up Jolley and Kawaboy at the airport.

Hi everyone.
Firko's last post has prompted me to just clarify a couple of things, just so there's no misunderstandings about CD5.
The first one is that Firko is being allowed to come to the venue on the Thursday afternoon specifically to coordinate the setup of his marquee for Klub Kevlar. We don't want everyone to think that this means it's OK to arrive on Thursday arvo - it's not. General Entry to the event will only commence on Friday morning at the advertised time, so please do not try and turn up on Thursday and try to jump the queue for camping spots. You will be politely asked to come back tomorrow... ::)
The second issue is one that may not have been highlighted, but we think that it should be, just to make doubly sure that there are no misunderstandings at CD5. The issue is Juniors on Minibikes. :o
No doubt many of you will know that we adopted a fairly loose approach to Juniors riding minibikes at CD4. This levity was badly abused by some and ended up causing us quite a lot of lost time, heartache and hassle, which frankly we don't need at CD5. We are there to have fun too, not have to play bad cop to kids which aren't being supervised by their parents. :(
As a result of this (and also because the venue is not quite as large) we are not going to allow ANY riding of motorcycles, be they large or small, by Juniors at the venue as a whole. No exceptions.
So please do not come along, expecting for your kids to be able to ride their minibikes like they may have done last year. Arguments like "it was OK last year" and "no-one told me" are not going to be acceptable. If you also have friends who don't visit this forum, but are likely to come to CD5, please also let them know.
Please don't be in any doubt: If a Junior is caught riding a minibike at CD5, it will mean that they and their parent/gardian will be instantly excluded from the event, and obviously this will wreck Dad's weekend as well.
The bottom line is that CD5 is not about Juniors riding minibikes, it's about having fun riding Vintage bikes. ;)

The only place mentioned in the post was the Klub Kevlar compound and the post also indicated you would be "there" on Thursday arvo... so I don't think I was jumping the gun.
Maybe you could have been more specific in your post as to where "there" was.
One thing's for sure, we don't want there to be any confusion and have people turn up on Thursday through a misunderstanding and consequently get pissed off. Hence my clarification.

If you haen't got an MA licence then you can buy a day recreation licence, I think $20.00 from memory.
The normal stuff I imagine, boots, helmet, gloves & goggles.
And your bike will be scrutinised, oh yes, it will be scrutinised all right. It will be scrutinised by several hundred spectators so just be sure if your going to claim your bike is original that it is, because their will be someone thier that will know if a 8mm bolt with a 12mm head has been replaced with a 8mm bolt with a 13mm head ;D ;D ;D

Well bugger me if their latest show doesn't fall on the very same weekend as Classic Dirt Five!
The girls have decided to do a love story with an action classic so they're combining
"Love Story" with "The Battle of Stalingrade". All five hours of it.
Sebastion is playing "Bubbles", Clarence is filling the roll as Obersteppenfurrers Klink's rottweiler "Dinky" and I have to make Russian and German uniforms for about 1.5 million extras.
So, I'm afraid, I'll be a little busy.......... :-\

This is serious. Fatboy advises it all comes to a head when the Board meets on 26 March.
I'm cutting and pasting from that thread into a couple of the high interest threads (like this one) in the hope some will respond to the noise emmisions issue:

That is tragic - and hardly a groundswell of dissent.

I got my bitch session penned in and a reply back ages ago..all taken on board they assured me Wombat ;) Ive got the TM125 to come in under the limit, the RMS is a little noisier but I'm working on that too..it has to be possible..my inkling on this issue is they (MA) ain't gonna budge and the restrictions will stay..if not this year next year so to work on getting the bikes to comply now makes perfect sense ;)

Yes Jeff, I will be easy to spot, I'll be the one waving them off. The only reason I'd be venturing onto the track while Joel is out there, would be to hand him a beer after the second or third lap, in case he was feeling a bit thirsty.
I told Joel last night that there'll be two other guys out riding in Legends Laps who raced against him in Oz in '72 and he thought that was pretty cool.

You probably will notice i am/was a big leisk fan. What he did going to the USA then to europe takes balls. It's getting bigger.... and DJ, your E4 helmet will comply. As a basis, scrutineers will be looking for AS1698, the Australian Standards sticker; just refer them to Appendix 1 in the Manual of Motorcycle Sport which has a helmet equivalency table. That's right son, to ride an mxer in Oz, you'd better be up to scratch on the dreaded PAPERWORK....

Dave, you can rest assured that Jeff Leisk is most definitely on the list of Legends who is invited. This year, we understand that he was extremely tempted to come along, but work and family commitments have prevented his attendance. :'(
We even sent Magoo over to the west to try and implore him to come, but unfortunately it's not going to happen for CD5.
He is a true Aussie legend of MX of course and we would really love to see him at CD6... we shall keep trying to get him to come along. ;)

Dave King can sell you a copy of the famous 1989 500cc GP at Namur with Leisky putting it to Geboers and Thorpey - its one of the best races I've ever seen, and shows the big 2 bangers in action at their very peak of development.
Leisk was clearly the most talented Aussie never to win a world championship. I look forward to meeting him at a future Classic Dirt.

The licence is a 'one event licence' Dodgee and I believe it is about $20. Well thats what I have been told anyway.

Yes, that is correct DJ, a Rec Licence will be $20 for the weekend. If you have a current MA Competition Licence then you won't need to pay that fee.

Hey DJ, just out of curiosity, how much is it to ship the crate?

I dont have the final figure yet Doc, but I have to do all the documention at your end and I have to pay for the shipping at the same time but so far the bill is $300nz and on top of that is what ever customs and who ever else I have to pay to get the crate. I have sent it as parts of a motorbike and it is dry (no tank) oil, airfilters and the motor is in pieces. Everything has been washed/cleaned hopefully the crate will cruise on threw customs. Failing that I will have to leave it sitting in storage until after CD5. (That will give me the shits).

ah ok ;) it's just I didn't see a handle to carry it on as excess baggage and thought maybe you had a 'logistics' company looking after it ;D I'm sure it'll breeze through, I know I'd be pretty impressed with the effort 'if' I were a customs official type personage but then I'd let any vintage bikes and bits in under the radar ::)

DJ I sent a PE 400 To NZud about this time last year in a crate much the same as yours and it took a week .. customs was a breeze and so was the freight company- as long as your paper work is up to scratch

Having carted the odd bike and assorted motorcycle parts across the Tasman i do get the shits when i get charged $16.00 KG excess baggage , I weigh 75 kgs dripping wet in a woolen suit , The Go lightly family at the next check in go at least 140 kgs a piece and get the same baggage allowance :o theres no bloody justice ::)

how about forum members put their handle on their front plate in texta on masking tape. this will help when the tour of the pits is done.
or
post up their bike make/model and the plate #'s it will be wearing, and copy and paste the list to a new post before adding your name/bike to the bottom of that list.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE RE CD5
We have been hearing on the grapevine that some people may be planning to arrive at CD 5 prior to Friday morning at 8am, i.e. Thursday or Thursday night.
Please be advised that only pre-authorised organisers and sponsors will be allowed entry to MX Central, the CD5 venue prior to 8am Friday, the 25th of April.
All others will unfortunately have to be turned away.
If your timing for travel has you arriving earlier than Friday at 8am, please make sure you have made some sort of alternative overnight camping / accomodation requirements, as the CD5 venue will not be available.

Sorry, but CD was really only ever supposed to be 2 days, but has grown to 2 1/2. ::)
We have limitations on some of the hired gear (not the least being the venue), so it can't be an open ended deal.
I'd suggest that an overnight stay in a reasonably close caravan park would be the go if you want to get there early on Friday. ;)

A 2hr wait at the airport(check in) and then its a 3.5hr flight to Brisbane arriving at 6:35pm Tuesday. The big day will be Wednesday having to deal with customs to get my bike and gear, I hope it goes smoothly.
We pick up a campervan on Wednesday as well and then Thursday is the big drive down. Looking forward to relaxing weekend of the same old bikes, same old dirt and same old fun.
ps Karen wants to know if there are snakes and spiders in the toilets.

i'm in brisbane DJ and a mate and i will be leaving after lunch thursday and will drive straight through to Karuah thursday night, which is just a bit north of where CD5 will be. work on around a 10hr run from brisbane to CD5 and that should keep things safe.

Vandy you and me both are giving Karen the shits with snakes and spiders, by the time she gets back to NZ she will be really busting to go.. ;) I will give you a call Wednesday morning. How far is Creek St(customs) from the airport? I have got one of those in-car navigation things to help us get around but I'm sure we will still get lost ;D The only worry I have is getting the bike out of customs in one day, otherwise I will have to wait around until they release it and then drive down, if that happens we could be on the road at the same time.

DJ, I also thought Customs was a one day deal but it's not.
This will be a tad wordy but it's my recent experience with importing a motorcycle to Brisbane:
Creek St is right in the guts of the Brisbane CBD; from Airport to City it's maybe a 15 minute drive in perfect traffic conditions.
I'd allow 45 mins to be sure. There are a few public parking areas nearby - all multi level parking so consider the height of your vehicle.
I had all my paperwork and the Customs Staff were helpful, but I needed their help in filling out some of the detail.
If you've previously imported you'll be OK but for a first time experience it can be a bit of a mind f*ck...
I completed the paperwork and handed it over - the nice lady said "we'll call you when we need you to come back in".
She said I might receive a call that day or it might be a few days, dependant on the back log.
My stuff was put on a pile of other import applications and I went away.
That afternoon I received an e-mail posing a few more questions about my import; I replied and heard nothing further that day.
The next morning I received a phone call to say all was sorted so come on in and pick up your stuff.
During one of these two visits I was allowed to phone the holding depot to arrange a Customs inspection of the bike.
I think it was the next day...
You're given a 15 minute time slot for the inspection - and don't be late or they will cancel and you'll need to re-book.
Your bike will likely be at Fishermans Island, a HUGE place with shipping containers as far as the eye can see.
Check it out in the Referdex (street directory) before you head there as it took me a lot longer to find the depot than I expected.
I'ts a very large area and I lobbed up without a minute to spare.
My first visit to Customs was on Monday morning and I had the bike on Wednesday arvo.
I hope you get through quicker than that but I'm told this is the standard experience.

mmmm yes Vandy..I'll be there to give this young Belgian fella some helpful tips and advice. Obviously the first thing that needs to be done is replace those cheap shocks with a pair of hi quality TS185 units ;) errr..an' I maybe wrong but I think the RN's only a 370 give or take a cc but I reckon I should ride this bike and we should start him off on a 125 since he's only obviously only a newby. I just happen to have a bike he can ride..one of the ones he tried to flog off to us as essentially the same bike the factory riders rode!! ;D

Thought I read a post that the bike was coming by Air .....that being the case customs clearance will be a shit load easier as it will all be done at Airport Drive - possible pick up also :)
Send customs an Email explaining your position and they may be a lot more Helpful .

Yeah Oldfart the bike has been flown over and is sitting there as we speak. The company I used is Express Logistics and I believe the crate will be at Brisbane international airfrieght depot at the airport.
Is there a customs office at the airport that can deal with an "Import Declaration" and AQIS inspection? I'm starting to pannnnnicccckkkk... Should I get the services of a "Customs Broker Agent" or do you think I will be able to deal with customs myself ?? I have been reading up on everything I have to do but it is bloody confusing. The crate was sent as "motorcycle parts and personal effects",(bike parts, because not all of it is in the crate and what is in there is in pieces) at a value of $1600nz.
Has anyone had to fill out a 'Customs Import Declaration (N10)' and understood it ?? I just hope the person I have to deal with gives me a break and I can get my crate out in one day.

Dj , what you should have done is,( I assume you are taking the bike back ) go to the chaimber of commerce and apply for a carnet ATA or Carnet de passage. Then you only need Quarantaine and a stamp from customs . Job done . When you go back just stamp it off by Aussie customs again , in New Zealand stamp it off on Arrival and return the carnet to the chaimber of commerce. Thats what we do between Europe , Australia and Asia . So I think the same should apply with NZ. I think a custom broker or custom officer that is sympatatic with VMX is now needed urgently to avoid any stress. Good luck

Walter the bike is going to stay in Brisbane for a couple of years so I can come over and race and do a couple more CD's, so the Carnet was out of the equation. I surpose what will be will be, I will just keep my fingers crossed, and if it takes two days to get the bike then thats what it takes. I didnt build the bike up to leave it sitting in customs so I might have a late nights drive to CD5.

Been looking at the weather and the conditions over Newcastle way look to be pretty damp. I think OldRodder or someone elsewhere reckons it's been raining a fair bit.
So I watched the forecast tonight - let's hope they are accurate. The rain should continue for several days and clear Friday, with a fine weekend. Could we be that lucky?

They have customs clearance at Airport Drive and your crate should be UP or Down the road 4klm depending on which shed they have put it in :)
From my personal experence it should take you about half a day ( 4 hours ) of half that is waiting time ::) ::) ::) and yes they hold thier hand out for money also :o
Report to customs do paper work ( fill out all the bullshit that is required )- they give you an ok form -take it to bond store , they give you the item to take back to customs- customs check item over - if all is as per documents your on ya way :)
SEND THEM AN EMAIL and ask if it can be done at Airport Drive

The Tarantula's can be a problem at times as they often take out birds & possums but the Redbacks take out the Tarantula's. We lost a few lambs last year in the Redback's breeding season, but come summer the Tiger snakes take out the redbacks.
You will be okay with all these varmints if you carry a shotgun with you on all toilet trips.

Here's some previews of a couple of new bikes for the Kevlar Kompound at CD5. The bottom bike is Jonseys new pit bike, a full stage 3 Yoshimura SL125 powered Rickman Micro Metisse. The little purple bike has been built to try and take out the inaugural Klub Kevlar Bling Award (A bottle of Scotch) but I reckon he'll be up against it with my own shiny entry, the Hindall Ducati shown while being assembled in the luxurious Kevlar workshop. The cutie on Jonseys bike is his sweetie pie daughter Elsie.

Tony....That's just the reaction that Alan wanted. He owns a shitload of purist Brit motocrossers like Black Betty, Cheney Matchless, BSA B50, '74 CCM and more that are all restored as per the anal retentives handbook. With the little Metisse his plan was to stick it to the boring, by the book restorers that arc up every time something is built outside of their circle, kind of like what I did back in the early 90s with my fluro pink Maico. In other words, he's having a bit of fun. I'm no fan of candy apple purple as a colour but believe it or not it looks great in the flesh. I didn't like it at first either but after a few beers it grew on me. Colour aside, the bike is a nice piece of engineering. Here it is without Elsie.

OK forum members, keep an eye out for people wearing these stickers. I've done the top 200 posters and, as you might guess, this is a picture of the top 10. Also did another 100 with just the OzVMX and no name, so if you're one of the 150 odd members who have never posted you can just write your name on the sticker. These won't be very waterproof so I'll throw in a roll of clear packing tape to stick over them to protect from the rain.

Just looking at the weather radar OldRodder, and the only rain on the east coast appears to be centred over Newcastle. And it's heavy! Forecast reckons it should clear but the track may be a bit damp huh?

I keep looking as well but it doesn't appear to be getting any better, here I am not at work all week an unable to go for a ride because of all the precipitation.
Even if it stops real soon I think CD5 is going to be damp, bring some gummies and a decent rain coat boys and possibly some rum to keep you warm inside.

as mush as there was a wash of water thru the tent last year it was perhaps one of the best times at a M/C meet Ive had in years - took me back to when we were kids and camped at Terry Hills brick pits.
As far as Im concerned Ken you've put the mocka on the weekend with the weather just mentioning it so bring your gumboots.

The rain has eased a bit but still a few showers now and then, I haven't ventured up to the track and won't get there until Friday when I escort quicky over there.
Apparently it has set records with 11 days straight rain, I haven't had a chance to visit the track since it reopened but I will make sure I take my Gumboots with me.
You can plan a lot of things but you can't change the weather.
All we can do is take it in our stride and enjoy the event as best we can, I hope to see and meet lots of forum members, wet or dry.

Im 30 minutes from the track, it will be a wee bit wet and muddy but thats what we like, geez if it wasnt raining, we'd complain about the dust :),rains eased off today and hasnt rained since lunch, no need to stress, it'll be good, no hang on, it'll be great, plenty of warm clothes and JD and no problems, ;D

RESIDENTS in the NSW Hunter Valley and the state's mid north remain on flood watch tonight.
The warning came as Sydney broke a 15-year rainfall record today.
Meteorologist Dick Whitaker said Sydney recorded its 11th consecutive day of rainfall, breaking a 15-year record.
"Weather records indicate the last time Sydney experienced more than 10 days of consecutive rainfall was in 1993,'' Mr Whitaker said.
"Even more impressively, it's been 77 years since we've experienced 11 consecutive rainy days in April.''
Showers are forecast for Sydney tomorrow but they are expected to ease on Anzac Day.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said between 140mm and 150mm of rain was expected to fall in the Lower Hunter, The Great Lakes region and the Manning River catchment from 4am (AEST) tomorrow.
"We are expecting the rain over the next 30 hours,'' a bureau spokesman said.

How many days of straight rain? Hasn't rained a drop here for weeks, and we're not that far away...
The YZ-X lives! :D :) x100. Been several late nights, and there are still a few rough edges (esp the tank that gets a coat of paint each night, after it gets cold. And then managed to stick my beanie into the wet paint the other night...). But it runs!
The wife's crook as a dog today, so I'm home 'supervising' her, which is fortunate 'cause it gives me some daylight hours to sort and load up shit when she's asleep...

Only 11 or 12 days we have had at least some rain each day, but they predict fine weather for the weekend but currently still getting a downpour about every 2 or 3 hours.

No riding today but a few pit bikes were zippin around, 090 had his crf modern pitbike as the first fireup i seen, Suzuki turned up with a heap of moderns to ride tommorow, which I may have to book a ride on, the workers were on the track with small dozer and bobcat, will still be greezy, Joel Roberts was busy signing Ts and anything else and was grinning from ear to ear, looked like he was having as good a time as everyone else if not better, that trademark smile he had as a younger sprouter lots of parts swapping hands, hard earned being parted company, shit being dribbled everywhere,sorry it is just so good :D :D :D :D

I have just been outside and there is something in the sky that I haven't seen in the Newcastle area for a bloody week, I think they call them STARS.
With a bit of luck we might even get some sunshine tomorrow - YeeHaa bring it on were sick of the rain.

Fantastic to see some of the legends yesterday. The 465 mount of Gally was also not a bad look..... Un fortunate about Joel. He spoke with us afterwards and was in good spirits. I have a bunch of photos that I will post to later, including closeups while JR was still on the bike.

Fantastic event. Not a lot of bikes for sale, but good parts. I sold some old forks and exhaust, which paid for petrol, ride fee and incidentals. Will report more later. The tributes will undoubtable roll in over the next 2 nights from all. Very well organised. Early ups to VMX-MAG.
One of the best late editions, was the VMX Name Badges, sugested by some legend. Great to see some of the people who we sometimes only contact or see online through this forum.,

Hi andrew, I don't want to start a massacre here with the other attendees, because this is essentially a great ocassion for us to just witness a point in history, but in support, you probably are correct. My memory is terminally bad, at the best of times, so please correct me. At least 2 riders had passed Joel Robert befoe the crash? I think it would have been more respectful and better for the media if no passing in the first lap and Joel was able to complete at the front of the pack for all the fotos etc.
No need to reply Andrew. I really, really enjoyed yesterday, and to see all these people, legends and bikes from all over.
Where I come from, Gaston Rahier was the 70's star, brought out by Suzi NZ, and people came from miles away, at the time.

Yeah that was me Andrew, I reckon it was just one of those things, Joel was going slow and was huggin the front brake, Per really didnt have nowhere to go because he had bikes either side of him, just glad neither of them got hurt, sure theyve seen and been in worse situations, give Joel & Per something to talk about at CD6 ::) Besides, Per was riding a MAICO so it could not have been his fault :-X

Nathan kicked it up and we had her running. Tm Bill, oldfart and Nathan were all willing to take her out on the track but she just wasnt ready, we were all busy doing other things didnt get time to much around with it so she never got on to the track for a run. I will play with it in few weeks see how she goes.
Those XR75 forks are still in ute mate I didnt notice until unloading tonight. Hope your happy with the TM..

i was in awe of joel...i was a bit like a little kid really everywhere he went i was beside him..just couldnt believe i was standing next to a world champion...i dunno what he thought ...might have been along the lines(whos this surfy dude with the big jarvis walker fishing hat )..i was a bit dissapointed with what happened on sat between him and per but shit happens...got some great footage on the cam ...damn where there some nice bikes down there..this was my first classic dirt..luved every minute of it...and it wont be my last.... ;D

Must agree with all that's been said so far. Superb weekend. A huge thanks to the VMX boys for the brilliant job they did getting it all on track and keeping it there, despite the most extraordinary weather the week before. And a big vote of appreciation to Suzuki, who did so much to support the weekend and who got half a dozen wrecked demo bikes back for it all... ;D
We arrived Friday AM to reports of a deluge the night before and a very waterlogged venue. But the Vintage spirit was alive and well and the feel around the place was electric. We were glad we'd booked a motel though. Here I am today back home, a little sore and tired but wishing the weekend could have just kept on going.
Here's a few memories from it all.
The grey afternoon on Friday was more than matched by the big smiles and enthusiastic welcomes from old mates and new faces.
Watching the bikes streaming in and marvelling out the sheer quality of work done to them.
Waking Saturday to brilliant sunshine.
That first lap in the slush on Saturday - loved it. The little RM impressed the Hell out of me.
Utter exhaustion after the two first laps in the slush - am I really that unfit?
Marvelling at the organisation and the facilities, it's a top venue.
Meeting forum regulars and finally putting a face to the name.
Meeting Firko.
Watching riders navigate the swamp on the top of the hill. All sorts of styles and speeds but pretty much everyone got through it every lap. Great stuff.
Beautiful bikes everywhere - and every sort of bike you can think of. Even an Adler.
The sound of two strokes at a race meeting - lovely.
Meeting Walter and being impressed by the professional setup of the YSS guys. And thanks so much for helping set up the RM shocks. Its great stuff the YSS gear.
The spit roast and band on Saturday night, now that was a nice touch. And thinking "Hey, that guy singing looks like Ajay".
Doing a few easy laps on Sunday and actually watching the riders around me. Some quick, some slow, but everyone having a great time. Got carved up by a few big bore Pre 85 bikes but got to chuckle as a couple of Suzuki demo bikes bit the mud in front of me.
My only fall of the weekend - thinking I'd be smart and follow the line to the left over the jump on the start straight and discovering two big tyres right there in front of me. A wobble and slow topple into the sand... How embarrassment.
Standing at the top of the hill in the pits Sunday just before we left. Blue skies, warm sun, the sound of bikes at work and just the spectacle of people and machines spread out before me. What a great memory...

I've just arrived back from the airport after dropping Mike Jolly off for his flight back to NZ after a hectic few days at CD5. Below, in no particular order are my thoughts and memories of the event.
* Ken, Ajay and Jeff deserve a big round of applause. These events arent easy to organise and control so to see the event go off so smoothly was a delight for all of us.
*What a nice bloke Joel turned out to be. His happy demeanor and interesting yarns were a delight. He's a fitting replacement for the late Jim Pomeroy as KK patron.
*If anybody was going to take Joel out, why did it have to be one of our Klub Kevlars?? Per Klitland was genuinely upset and enbarrassed after trying a move on Joel that had no hope of coming off. Luckily there was no major damage done other than a slightly damaged ego or two. It just goes to show that even legends can enter the red mist. Joel and Per were later seen laughing and reliving their moment.
*We wondered why Mums and Dads were holding their kiddies back from coming into the Kompound until we discovered the sign below that Jeff had discreetly placed next to the Kompound.

* It was great meeting Kiwis DJ and Karen and sharing a beer with Mike Jolly and TM Bill again. I was hoping Bills lovely Italian wife Valeria could have come to officially launch my Ducati by smashing a bottle of Chianti over the footpeg or something equally inspiring. Mybe next time. DJs Noguchi project bike is as nice as I thought it'd be. It sucked a lot of people in.

* After years of just missing each other I finally got to meet out webmaster, Graeme. It was also cool to put faces to names with the great nametags. My Fiko tag wouldn't stick and still lives on my DT1. I still missed out on meeting many of you and hope to have another opportunity sometime soon.
* The coolest bike award just had to go to Gus Priems unreal mid fifties Adler. Many of us have been following the progress on this bike for years and to see it in the flesh was a pleasure. This is one rare as shit motorcycle.

It's a pity about the mud. It agravated my ankle injury and by Saturday night was in a bit of pain. Thankfully alcohol is a great pain leveller. Due to a confused message the Klub Kevlar Margarita blowout didn't occur when and where I'd told people it would. I apologise to all that missed out and promise it won'y happen again. The First Annual Ray Ryan Memorial Chili Cookoff did come off and results are still in the air due to the tasting panel having three differrent winners. I reckon mine was best but have to admit that the other entries were all different and good. Kev "Krasher" Crossey and MAs Ross Martin were worthy competitors. The 4th entry "Bullmad 24" went missing and his entry wasn't judged and Dave Tanner had to return suddenly to his very ill wife so he missed out. Next years shootout will be better supported I'm sure.
* Thanks to Mike Jolly who flew in from NZ and helped me get the Duke and Maico trials bike ready. I've had a major illness in the family that had bought progress to a halt so Mikes encouragement and help at least got the bikes into a displayable condition. Thanks Mate.

* It was good to see one of the sports true characters back in the thick of things. Paul Chipendale has been nursing his very ill wife Rosie for the last few years which pushed his participation into the background. Rosie is now in remission and fighting fit so Paul and Rosie made the journey south from the Sunshine Coast. He was hovering around the beautiful for sale '77 CCM and has made an offer on it. It was great to hear that unmistakable laugh again.

*I thought I was a lucky little camper when I spotted a clean TS90 Honcho for $20. Sadly my dear mate Nathans wife was one step in front of me with a cleanly minted $20 bill in her hand. Bugger!
*All in all CD5 was yet another hoot. There were downsides but overall it was a credit to the organisers. Roll on CD6!

Yep where back and had a ball . Spent most of this morning removing half the track from me bike .

I wanna thank maicopunk for doing up those pretty neat ozvmx-logo'ed nametags - it meant i actually met lots of forum people, which was just great! As one of the top ten forum posters doc, I was keen to meet you too Doc but it didn't quite come to pass. Neither did the little ozvmx session I was going to do Saturday nite before dinner was served (just read out a few stats - forum numbers now, most members online at one time, top ten topics, top ten posters etc plus ask for a round of applause for Mr McElligott, the site's founder - but people's tummies got the better of them and the caterers were getting toey, so another time maybe).
Couple of nice coincidences - I bought two old T&T mags from Geoff Morris and read them on the trip back to Canberra Sunday arv. One had a writeup of the European GP at which Joel gave an uppercut to young Gaston Rahier for taking him out of the race in what '74 or something - the very same incident I heard Joel recount live at the pre dinner story session Saturday nite!
The second mag (T&T March '88) had a writeup of the first vintage mx gathering in Australia, held somewhere in Victoria early in '88 (and predating the Classic MX meeting held at Amaroo on April 24 of that year - a Firko job that one?). And who was at that first (Vic) one? Peter Drakeford for one...MC star of CD5....a mere thirty years later.....any other CD5'ers there too?
Apart from that, a big vote of thanks to Suzi Aust for the use of them perty new bikes - I didn't mind that one bit! And to the VMX mag team - I had an absolute ball - the best three days I've had in years. The atmosphere was like....I don't know....like Woodstock without the bare bums. Bliss!!!

HI Guys,
All we can say is thanks for comin'. The weather on Friday had to be seen to be believed and it would have been easy to stay home - warm and dry - but luckily the average VMXer is tougher than that.
On Friday morning I shared a 'small island' at the entrance to MX Central with a couple of very soggy vmxers for a few hours while the flood waters [yes FLOOD WATERS] receeded and at that time the event looked shakey to say the least. But miracles evidently do happen and the weather cleared and we were rewarded with a great weekend.
My personal thanks to all you guys [and girls], all I saw over the weekend were happy smilin' faces. Joel was fantastic value. Thanks to everybody that attended and supported the event in difficult conditions. Thanks to all the sponsors. Thanks to Suzuki for all the extra little things that make our life much easier. Thanks to Todd and the MX Central team for all their hard work [and great food], it would have been easy to pull the plug with the bad weather, but no! Thanks to Chris Malam for all the bad jokes. Thanks to all the OzVMXers who introduced themselves over the weekend. Thanks to the Hunter Motorcycle Club guys for manning the gate and doing flag duty on the track. Etc, etc, etc!!!!!!
The only thing I could think to complain about was the parking ability of the average VMXer. Gally and I concluded that it would be easier to teach you guys to 'double jump' than it would be to get you not to park in the middle of the road [only joshin'].
We [Ken, Ajay and Chris] went out to dinner in Raymond Terrace last night and within 10 minutes the subject of CD6 came up. Bloody hell, the mud was still wet from CD5 and here we go again.

Sorry I missed you Twistnshout, I missed a few others also and 3 days was simply not enough time to get around to everyone and everything that I'd wanted. I met so many people (hopeless with real names sorry) that my mind was frazzled. YZ250, YZHilly, KB, Quicky, TMBill, Big Bill Nolan, Rusty, Nathan, Firko, Graeme, Ajay, Jeff, Ken,oldrodder..jeez that's just a partial list and it seemed like near everyone was there. Really sorry for the guys that missed it but your turn will come I'm sure. Jimson and Tom, it was a pleasure meeting you also mate. Picked up parts, dropped off bikes, bought others home was a typical story, I along with countless others did just this and it is a brilliant opportunity for moving bikes and bits around this country for precious little in terms of cost. Parts and bikes being sold and traded left right and centre and I don't believe I saw any instance of animosity amongst the crowd. I could write and write but I'd only be repeating others so some pics instead are at the link below ;)

I am one of those unfortunate souls who didn't get to go this year but want to do the next one no matter where over East it is. Even if the venue will be discussed millions of times over can we get a date sooner rather than later so I can organise rosters???? I might even then have to appeal to somebodys better nature to help me buy a bike over that way - just bring it back with me you see!!!!

I got a call from Yumastepside on Sunday morning, and I really tried to tell him that he wasn't missing anything good, but there was no way I was convincing.
CD5 was great for a heap of reasons. Here's some of them:
1. The people you meet. Meeting a bunch of great people for the first time. Had several great discussions with guys like Walter and Boagy and KB and DJ - after five minutes you feel like you've been mates for years.
2. The bikes. The VE Hagon, the Victor powered Bantam (Quick!), the CCM, Can-Ams that don't belong to Nitram, Betric's collection, the Rickman SL (yes the colour is awful, but it's a mighty nice thing), DJ's Noguchi, the collection of leading link bikes, 090's collection, msmola's crappy old TS185, and everything in between, it was hard not to be impressed.
3. The people you re-meet. Meeting up with a bunch of different blokes you already know but haven't seen since the last CD or the last Nationals - The Qld Suzuki crew, Brad, Quickie, the Tassie boys, crossedup2, etc etc.
4. The riding. Getting to ride and enjoy the old bikes among a heap of other people doing the same. At one stage I had a KX500 and a CR500 blow past me and then a few seconds later, I blew past a certain TS185. No agro, no argy-bargy, just people enjoying their riding and their bikes.
5. The buying. While there were some optimistic souls it seemed that, on the whole, people there to sell. Along with the $20 TS90, I also got a few other bargains - $10 DT360 motor, $15 pair of guards, etc. There was a lot more I could have bought, but we ran out of space well before I ran out of money or enthusiasm.
6. The riding. Getting a ride on bikes that you wouldn't usually have the opportunity to. I am - and will remain - eternally grateful to 090, Betric, DJ, Vandy, msmola, for allowing me to take their toys for a blat. Plenty of others offered (or at least said 'yes' when I asked) but time just seemed to get in the way.
Ah... I'm babbling.
Anyhow, thanks heaps to everyone who made it happen.
A+++, will attend again, highly recommended event. :D

Well i just locked the shed after packing everything away . I have just had the best weekend away . Awesome i have never seen or met so many like minded people . Everyone i met was enthusiastic about all the different bikes and having a laugh . I worked hard on the track and was still slow but it was great fun and then worked equally hard off the track , Saturday night was a standout with Joel telling some of his story's (Everyone was rivetted to him struggling with his accent but getting the drift of what he was saying ) The story of Rahier putting him into the crowd and how he got back on the track was incredible and watching him crankin the suzy up on the paddock on sunday was a highlight . I met a heap of forum regulars and there is a lot i missed so next time i will try harder . A big thanks to everyone involved with running the event ,It went off without a hitch and a hardy bunch of VMXers supported them . I had a couple of VMX virgins with me who just couldnt believe how big it is and are chasing bikes and plan on being part of it too. I big thanks to Nathan & Anna for giving me and KB171 a bunk on thursday on the way up .

Some names too the faces , Nathan and Anna hiding behind the Golden Rat ,Micheal on the bike and Lozza with the old chain . This dramatically improved micheals riding as on saturday he fell off every corner and sunday he made a full lap with only 2 getoffs . I worked hard on the track not to fall off as it looked nasty down there only too be taken out by Kurt (facthunt) at our campsite with his infectious laughter the ensuing cartwheel also knocked over both of KB's honda's (sorry KB) lucky there was no damage to the bikes and i was sufficently aniethetised that i didnt feel .But everyone who witnessed it pissed themselves .

Great weekend is a understatement ;D had a ball always enjoy attending the CD's with my dad and this weekend just reminded me why ,so many bikes so many good blokes and women also ;) so much good riding time too. Me and my dad both had our bikes so i got the enjoyment to go out and give both a thrashin :D had a good wander round met some good blokes along the lines of TM BILL, Doc , YZ250H , YZHILLY , KB171 , Vandy , Walter , Oldfart , Wombat , quiky , and even got to have a good chat with the usuals like nathan s, magoo , noel , dennis , fernando and many others .Like to thank the organisers for a great weekend and also the bloke that camped up from us that taught me how to fix a flat tire in 15mins flat havent tested it yet but im hoping to get it done in under and hour :-[ haha also if he reads this like to thank darren for that manual he gave to me i've had a quik flick through and discovered things for the bike thats helped out already and hope to catch up with ya next meet mate.

Ah, The Golden Rat. :D
Poor old msmola2002 (white shirt) and his $500 TS185 copped a lot of shit over the weekend, and he took it with the good humour that was intended.
CD5 was his first ever ride on dirt, and given his perma-grin, I doubt that it was his last.
After his 500th chain derailment, Lozza convinced him to buy a new chain. One of the stalls down the hill sold him a fairly decent chain that happened to be gold in colour.... So he had this filthy dirty, ill-handling, poorly running TS185 with a bling gold chain: just like a rat with a gold tooth.
Lozza and I both took the Golden Rat out for a run, and we were both horrified - no power (even on the rare occasions when it ran clean) and even less handling. On that bike on that track, Michael gave himself a hell of a learning curve.
On an unrelated note, I've gotta add in a special thanks to jimson & Tom, and to Doc and Oldfart for carting shit around the countryside for me.

A lot of V nice machines and looks like it was a blast guys. I cant see too many PNG mudmen running around so Im guessing a lot of bench racing took place.
Pity about the few losses i read about but good to see it hasnt dampened the spirit of the weekend .
When ::) I get the silver beasty ridable Nathan Ill let you take that around the paddock and see if I can get you to change brands.

What a fun weekend, was nice to meet some friends from here and say g'day, next year I'll see if I can camp for some real action.
Highlights were many, managing to start Walter's sidecar in front of a large audience, the look on Joel's face when I commented how many more World titles he could have won on the Golden Rat..."on dat ting" ??? Many many laughs at TMBills one liners, oggling DJ's sweet Noguchi which photo's don't do justice. I could go on and on......
Many thanks and backslapping must go to the VMX crew for their long hours of planning and to the much maligned Holeshot Buddy for not planting his KX 500 wheel in my back*.
*Just how I came to be lying in the middle of the track will be separate story

on the saturday i got some footage of a guy coming off his suzuki rm 125 right up on top of the hill in the slop..it was really funny because the poor bugger couldnt get his bike off himself .....thats right he was stuck....i dont know who it was but the bike looked like an 81 model and its racing numbers were 18 .....who was this rider.... ::)

If you didn't make the effort to get their then you missed out on the best meeting since CD4

Yep that was big weekend,It was good meeting all the folks, thanks to Hilly for getting me and the bikes up an back ,,also Nathan &Anna for the pit stop,Im sure hilly whacked your cat on me head to wake me at 5.30 am :-\Geeze the base station was a fine lookin set up aye? had a bit of unstable ground near the ute on Sat nite ;) ;Roll on CD6 :P

Fantastic effort by everyone involved. I was really feeling for the VMX crew as the rain just FLOODED down for days on end thinking they might have to cancel, but the VMX god smiled, the flooding drained away JUST in the final nick of time, the campground and track still worked and weren't knocked around too bad, much to the credit of Pete Starkey (Stack) - the track caretaker.
I had people telling me today they saw some TV footage on the NBN 3 Newcastle Sunday news, but damn it I was unloading bikes and gear and forgot to look when it was on, supposedly showed some action, jumps, and bikes - what else, any Joel Robert interview, who saw it?

Just got back from the long drive . What a great weekend . Meet so many forum members and can now put a face to it . I did not know the forum was hiding well international proven sidecar passengers.Thank you TM Bill for outing your self .I think the crowd and both of us enjoyed the little demo ride. Thanks also to the two stroke Institute (Lozza ) for starting my fourstroke. The weather turned out OK and things run smoothly. Our Tradestand was always crowded and many customers I finally meet face to face.
The chilli cometition was as fierce as the taste ,Team YSS and the YSS girls all enjoyed it. The Kevlar girls , I must say , where a bit shy however . ;D Thanks Firko anyway , Top show from Kevlar club.
The track was technically and phisically very demanding on pre 74 bikes and old bodies. I can still hardly walk. I just have to get in shape again.

The most fun you can have with your clothes on. My jaw got a workout just chatting to everyone. Saturday night was a big highlight for me , with the Wiltec crew running a muck and the sensational MILF Catering on hand.... what a blast.
Great to meet some more forum members and catch up with the others i had already met.
To those who didn't make it.... suffer in your jocks!!!

My sincerest congratulations to Ken, Alistair and Jeff for pulling off the best CD since Barrabool. The weather Gods were totally against you guys doing this but it came off big time. Thanks also to Todd and his crew for the huge effort they put into preparing the venue. I know for a fact that they were up against those same weather gods but hard work won in the end. Thanks also to the nameless blokes who manned gates, flags and every other official position. I don't know who you were but you did a fantastic job under tough circumstances.
I was blown away by the quality of the bikes this year. The bling factor has really come into its own. The amazing trip through motocross history in the Kevlar Kompound can't be understated. Everything from Firkos beautiful under construction Ducati to Black Betty and Ugly Betty (his little purple metisse), Jonseys Hagon VE monocoque, Edgars historic ex Gunter TRIBSA and ESO Metisse, Franks amazingly trick Manx Norton Metisse and those unreal blenders made their "Kamp" a special attraction. Gus Priems gorgeous little Adler was stuck away in the back blocks but was a masterpiece. The same goes to Rod McDonalds great Anzani DOT and Ray Doles ex works Victa which is the only Australian made bike to ever win an Australian Championship.
I also got a fatty over those brilliant Mugens and a couple of sweet YZs down on the dirt track. It was great catching up with old friends like the legendary OSSA king Phil Young, Per Klitland, Firko and his band of degenerate pensioners, Rod Mac and his Victorian degenerate pensioners wo surely must be the Mexican Klub Kevlar. I even met a bloke who has owed me money for four years who finally paid up!
The downside has to be the sad loss of Peters Husky from the motel. What a crook thing to happen. I don't know Peter but after talking to his mates I have learned that he is an extremely generous bloke who bends over backwards to help other vintage entthusiasts. If it was one of our community who did this to him I feel sick inside knowing that it could be someone I know. I hope the bike is returned soon Pete.
I'm going to have to lift my resto game up for CD6 with such a strong standard being set at CD5. Bring it on.

Thank you one and all for attending, you're the reason the event is a success more than any other single factor. It takes a lot more than that to make it happen, as many have said, such as support from Suzuki, our other sponsors Engineered Environments and Wiltec Industries, support from the Trade stands, the track operators (Todd and his wife Kristy), the Hunter Club, the Legends who participate and loads of others, but, you guys make it a success.
I'm still too tired to type much more and will come back with some more later but for now, I'm just really glad you enjoyed being a part of it.

ken, i'd like to contact suzuki to thank them for their generosity in sponsorship and the bikes and to tell them as a result if i buy a modern mx'er, it will be a suzi as a direct result. who do i email?
cd6.....suggest natural terrain grasstrack/farm venue would be great....so the pre-75 bikes and the riders who don't ride at any other time can get out and do their stuff.
i met a guy who said 'they should have it on my 200 acre farm at goulburn'......mmmmm......

Fantasic work, cd's are just the best thing, everyone had a blast. I have spent the last 5 or 6 hours down loading the video footage from the 3 days, have got some classic footage.
I would like to apoligise to Hoony for the drunken phone call on the Saturday night, and to anyone else who I offended with my dancing and singing, but I was in the Moment.
I will send good money for those photo's Magoo!

Must admit on thursday night as we stayed in the pavillion at the Bully show grounds and the rain flogging down all night to wake up with the main street flooded. MMMMMMMMMMMM gona be a wet one :'(
But the weeknd just got better, the atmosphere and friendliness of all there was what made the event. ;D
The track was a bit suss, I know it was hard to prepare the track during the lead-up. But I don't think the new layout has a patch on the old track!! ::)
Thanks to Shoey, Ribbo and Timmy for letting us stay at "Chateau Shoey" my colen is going to take a week of toxic clensing to clear the half of a cow I ate cooked up by the boys!!
Well done to Ken,AJ and all the crew for a fantastic weekend. The way the weekend flowed with the riding the legends and the sat night entertainment. TOP SHIT!!

Well, time for me to poke my nose in and say hello!
I'm a noobie here but I did manage to meet a hell of a lot of great people on the weekend, and I really felt welcomed. I may have been on the crappiest bike there (for a while anyways, I seemed to spend more time on my back climbing out from underneath it :D) but I certainly had a fantastic weekend.
I'm unloading the camera now so hopefully should have some pics up tomorrow or something
As much as I had a less than successful weekend on "The Golden Rat" aka the world's worst TS185, I shall be out for more soon, the rider in particular needs some work, not least in teh way of fitness, this riding a bike stuff is harder than it looks for a fat unfit bugger like me.
Anyhoo, was great to meet everybody that I did, and i appreciate the help and advice i received from everyone, especially Nathan, Anna and Lozza who put up with me for the weekend.

Good on ya Micheal glad you survived the weekend ,Dont give up on the ts there held in high regard by some people (dont know why) but the whole idea is getting out and having a ride and you did that and practice makes perfect (well maybe better) So i will be interested to see you and the Golden Rat evolve .

That was my first CD so I have no other to compare it to, but I could bang on for hours about how much I enjoyed the weekend.
That many bikes and that many riders and the big party on Saturday night; followed by VMX DVDs - what a hoot!
I saw no aggro and I saw no idiots. It really was a weekend of likeminded people getting together for a common purpose. Sensational!
The Saturday night summed up for me what it's all about.
Following the major party I watched a few DVDs of VMX under a tarp; thanks Dennis and crew for your hospitality.
I'd just lobbed into the 'Cinema' and I was fed peanuts and a glass of red wine! What's not to like?
The whole weekend was like that; all manner of stuff being lent and borrowed and shit being talked.
Did anyone else notice how clean the site was following Saturdays party?
There was stuff all rubbish anywhere; it was all in the bins or piled up against them.
I think we all respected each other and the event as a whole.

Actually, I must say once again thanks so much to Walter for helping me setup those shocks. And judging by what I saw, a lot of guys got that sort of help over the weekend. Great stuff.
And great stuff too is the YSS suspension. I now have YSS shocks and PD Valves in the forks and they are simply superb. The forks are brilliant for skinny old things with just 8" of travel, and the shocks are plush city. On the weekend I had some problems with my left hand and the forks really helped make it possible for me to ride. You couldn't do much better for the money than YSS, I reckon.

Hi guys,
I talked myself hoarse over the 3 days and there was still the 12 hour drive up and back from Melb to fill in. Dave Hammond and I still managed to fill the time with bike discussion. Blissful overload. I want to say hi to all the new guys I met and whose names I've already forgotten - but I do remember your faces and what was said. Everyone is mentioning stuff I saw and I would have liked to spend more time contemplating. Aarrgghh! It should be a week long!

KB171 - a picture of concentration
more like a picture of retrospect. Love the old gear KB, obviously the gas bottle trick worked ;) this pic could have been taken in the early 70's such is the attention to detail keeping firmly within the required pre'75 era 8) there should have been an award for this also. In case anyone doesn't recognize this bike, it was the one leaning against the fence with grass growing around it in another post a while back..pretty amazing transformation eh! ;)

Nice pics Tony,aint it amazing how the track looks fairly dry, err yes Doc the 34 yr old leathers were retro fitted to a 9 kg gas bottle for week or so, they were a loose fit 1974, must've shrunk i spose ;)

How many of you walked past this little bike without giving it a second glance? This bike is the actual Victa (lawnmower company) works bike of Ray Dole sr that won the Australian 125 Motocross Championships back in 1961. It's unrestored and is still very quick for what it is. It's the only Australian made bike to ever win an Australian Championship of any kind. The little Victa deserves its place in history.

I did have a good look at what I first thought a bantam and fell in love with it Firko. Twin carbs, simple linkages, toecutter barrel and what appeared Victa ignition (I maybe wrong with the ignition) a top little bike! ;) KB, the track does look amazingly inviting in most shots but I for one wimped out on actual riding excepting the SL100 kangarooing everywhere trying to break the clutch plates free :( incidently they are still stuck! bugger! ::) Truth is I was having just as much of a good time wandering around flapping my gums and straining my optics. 3 days went very fast!! ;D

Yeah the boys with the Bantam were camped near us and we gave it the Rat bike award .loved it. Geez Firko how many Shed hours in getting all those bikes on show .I loved them all .

The Bantams story is a great one that you'll have to wait for in a future VMX. I'm soon going to interview old Ray senior about the Victa and its history and get some more shots of it. A brief version is that Ray was the workshop foreman at Victa and he started mucking around with Victa barrels on his racing Bantams. Eventually he developed a complete Victa bike, frame and all, that was I believe lost in a bushfire. The bike at CD5 is the actual bike that won the title in 1961 and is a complete Victa engine grafted to a Beeza Bantam 3 speed trans and in a Bantam frame. I had a bit of a yarn with old Ray at the Wagga Dirt Track Nats and the story of the bikes development and Victas 'almost' going into motorcycle production should be a pretty interesting yarn.
A lot of work went into getting the Kevlar bikes to CD5. My Duke and Maico trials bike were a pile of parts a week before the event as I had some severe family illness dramas that stopped the projects dead in their tracks. That's why they were both unfinished but at least I got 'em there. Jonsey built Ugly Betty in a fortnight long frenzy as well as rebuilding Black Betty and getting the monocoque Hagon reasonably presentable. We made a concerted effort to display some of the sports more obscure bikes as a sort of magical mystery tour of the short travel days.
For what it's worth here's a list of the bikes we had on display.

Well I have just made it in the door of my house and I'm still buzzing from CD5. First off I would like to thank a few people who helped me, Karen and Bill.
Doc, you are everything Bill said you are, a true fair dinkum aussie legend, the pinnacle of a true VMXer who lives and breathes old dirt bikes. I was honoured to meet you.
Dodgee, Thanks so much for the gear shifter, and the look on your face every time TM Bill came near you was classical, I know how you feel, ya never know what he will say or do next. I loved that little Honda of yours too, it was a work of art and thinking outside the box, very cool.
Brad and Lynette, without your generosity I believe I would be still building my bike on the Pacific Highway somewhere, and lets face it, even with a Navman I still managed a 2 hour detour all over Brisbane, so from Myself, Karen and Bill, Thank you very much for letting us stay at your beautiful home, and for allowing me to leave my bike in your shed so I can come over to ride again with all you Aussie VMXers.
Ajay, my take on CD5 is, if I had have known it was going to be so cool Thursday night, I would have thrown myself on the footpath before you took the big step. Just keep doing what you are doing, the people who turn up are the ones who make or break an event like that, and from what I saw everyone was having fun.
Firko, your stories and recollections of times gone by were a real treat and they need to be told the only way you told them, sitting around a bbq with a few drinks and a good drop of laughter, keep passing your knowledge on big fella, it needs to be shared.
Magoo, Craig T warned us he had a twin brother but he didn’t warn us that you had one, and after seeing that picture in the other thread I understand why. Keep wearing that spider shirt and spinning your web, great to meet you.
Oldfart, only a kiwi would have a DR to round the sheep up, but you would be doing it in style on your bike.
Vandy, your work on the MX is without doubt inspirational, you have made me think I need to build another bike or at least do more work to the Noguchi so that the engine is closer to pre75 than pre78. Without all the talking and sharing of ideas this sport wouldn’t be as good as it is. I will be watching the progress (racing) of your bike with keen interest so keep me informed, thanks Mick.
Nathan and Anna, finally we got to meet, about bloody time too. What can I say that won’t upset you or provoke a biting response (na, just joking Nathan). I hope all goes well for you and Anna on the soon to be new addition to the family and I’m not talking about the bikes you bought over the weekend.
Tony, yeah you should have bought your gear, but if you’re like me just being there is what it’s all about. I’m looking forward to catching up with you at the next event, be it here or over there.
Hilly, first I would like to say I’m sorry about hearing the lost of one of your bikes, I hope you get it back. As for cd5 you looked like you were enjoying it nearly as much as me. A more unattractive lot I've never seen, even the shot Rusty got of me with my pants down on the other thread looks better.
I have been thinking about Classic Dirt all week and I reckon next year I'm not riding because you miss out on so much when you're on the track. What a top bunch of blokes the Kiwis were. Even though they struggled with the language and local customs over here they were great value, even Mr Michael Jolley esq was having a great time. There was something about TM Bills melon that made me feel like I'd known him for years.
I vaguely remember having a good old chat with my old sparring partner Nathan on Saturday night, a more passionate VMXer you'll never meet.
The band was great, the company was great, the beer was great, the atmosphere was great.
How to make it better? Stop the rain, otherwise brilliant

Following the theft of the Husky it was decided security may be an issue at that Motel.
We parked the convoy so as to make it as difficult as possible to get the bikes out - check Brad's steel cable and kick-arse lock!
Thanks to Brad, TM Bill, DJ and Karen for the laughs and hospitality on our last night; I'd have fallen asleep at the wheel for sure if I'd attempted the drive to Brissie straight after we left the event.

I feel the same way about the riding Magoo. I rode too much and missed out i feel and next year i wont spend anywhere as much time on the track. I think that cd6 should be there again next year as its central and the facilities are good. The owners are eager to please and with another 12 months under their belt the complex would be even better.

I'm trying to post a handful of CD5 photos but they're a real bugger to reduce in size.
I'm using the 'paint' program; but to post five or six photos in one go requires reducing each photo to a size too small to show any detail when opened.
Hey DJ (or anyone else), how do you manage the large multiple photos without going over the kb limit?

You may even have website space as part of your ISP agreement that you are unaaware of, this would be an ideal point to host the bike pics, the when you post, just point back to that photo link. Microsoft has 5GB of space through Sky Drive, help yourselves.

It's fairly obvious to regulars that I have a soft spot for the old bikes that forged our sports early history. Here's a couple more shots of bikes that did it for me at CD5. Rod Macdonalds beautiful Anzani powered DOT and Greeves aren't bikes that I'd particularly like to actually race but they sure are cool examples of our sports pioneer bikes.

and for Firko, i wanted to catch up just to say g'day but got sidetracked as usuall but had a good chat with your mate Allan. funny one for ya, i was right behind him when he took that little yoshi powered purple thing out onto the track, he hit the first jump then promptly buried it in the mud. i asked him the next day what happened and the story i got was a little different to what i saw. i think he was telling a fibb. nice bike though.
speaking of getting sidetracked, we stayed off site just a couple of klms up the road and each day we drove out there was always someone to talk to that slowed our exit somewhat. my mate reckoned it was like going shopping with his mum, always talkin.
can't wait to get my friggin comp back online.

Vandy...Jonsey has told us six different stories about how he crashed with each explanation involving more air time and more speed and a different superstar taking him out. I saw him plop into the mud at about 6mph and only wish I had my camera pointing at him when he did it!. What a boo boo for a current Australian Champion.
Shit he had a good time though. I don't reckon there is any more enthusiastic a vintage punter than Alan Jones. There should be more like him.

talking about ambos, anyone know how the bloke who was carted away from the track late saturday (or was i early sunday?) ended up? he crashed up on the top muddy section.
i remember that one as i was down at the entrance to the track waiting patiently to take one of them lovely little new rm125s out. the funny bit about this was, i was waiting there with three other patient guys aboard the new suzis, and a heap of guys on their own bikes behind us. waiting, waiting. and you know how guys get when they're waiting for their (free) blast round a track.... when they finally stretchered the guy away and gave us the all clear, well, we just prodded and wfo'd didn't we. the guy next to me was on the 450, and he of course wfo'd faster than me. and over that first jump in like third. on the right hand side. meaning his wheels stuck fast in that shit mud on landing. so i watched him sail over the front end and head first into the crap. and then the bike follow over him. into the mud. (no way i was gonna stop tho, not with the thousand following on my heels).
i bumped into the guy the next day. he said he had tyre mark brusing all up his back and his shoulder felt up the shit. didn't get his name. wonder if he's ok too???

Back in NZ after an extended CD5 trip and what a trip :D
Would have to say CD5 was one of the most social VMX events iv'e been to and also got a shit load of riding in to 8)
I would like to thank everyone who made our trip so easy and so much fun :)
Jeff , AJ & Ken what an event, apparantly there was some rain pre event but i cant say i noticed ???
Raymond terrace was i believe an ideal venue while not as open as Broadford or Barrabol it has a lot of character and the track lends itself well to VMX bikes.
Meeting Joel was definetly a highlight , the guy is so genuine and unassuming and had some great stories to share.
The Saturday night party was awsome 8) AJ i hope your band will be at CD6 as it took the event to a new level :)
DJ & karen thanks for making this trip all the more memorable, Dj i take my hat off to yer 8) you had an idea with the Nogouchi and saw it through all the way to CD5 RESPECT, Karen without you i think DJ and me would still be being interviewed at Brisbane airport, thanks for your tollerence and sense of humour. DJ seriously owes you a Melbourne shopping trip next :-X
Doc & Dodgee :) again you guys really went out of your way to help us Kiwis i cant thankyou guys enough for all you done for us this trip and on my previous visits . I hope that one day you will come and experience VMX kiwi style and that i am able to return some of the awsome hospitality you guys have shown me :)
Brad 8) you and your family opened your home to us, and then subjected yourself to a 20 Hr round trip in your truck with me (more than any human being should be asked to do ;D ) Seriously though thanks mate for all your help. The trip to the museum topped off a great classic dirt , however i do believe your collection rivals the dirt section of the museum.

I would be interested also. I helped push his bike away. It had locked up wheels front and rear. I think the front locked and bought him down (I didn't see the get off) because the brake fluid didn't bleed back and pressure built up. The rear was locked because of the chain derailed, probably caused by the accident.

Victorian Classic Motocross June 29th for Barrabool or Aug 24th for Ravenswood DJ. Both fantastic tracks and you'd see a real depth of machines at either. There's probably ship loads of 'roos for Karen (do you have 'roos in NZ!?) no crocs. :-\

It isn't from CD5 but it could have been.
I thought of our recent CD the moment I saw it! In fact, since the event I think of CD5 whenever I see mud...
I think it's from the USA, but mud looks like mud regardless of the location - and it looks coolest when basting a VMX machine! 8)

Hey nice work DJ i'm just watching Tony's video of CD5 and my missus and kids wanted to know why everyone was going so slow i told them the track was rough and slippery so i showed them your video of the track and they just laughed and said i'm getting old & slow i told them it wasnt a race and i was just having fun just a bit slower than i used to be .Hah . Just watching Joel go around on the sunday and suzuki sounds awesome and he looks like he's having a ball . Thanks Tony Barsby(YZ250H) for the DVD .

Who knows about these things? Any advice on good ones/bad ones?
And on a personal note I'm positive that's my fat arse parked on the corner at 2.01 in this clip.
I was suckin' in the big ones after a fall and I remember TM Bill coming down the hill towards me (and you I think).
I watched him get hung up/stumble/fall at that point and this is what appears to happen on your footage.

The helmet cams cost $us85 and you have to get a SD card and batteries. I use a 2gig SD card and 2 rechargeable AA batteries. On you tube they dont look thatr good but on a computer screen or tv they arent to bad.

I would say Geraldo would be busy with his new job and promoting the products he is selling now and Darryl has just started up a MX team so that will have him pulling his hair out(will at least keeping his spare time occupied). Bill and myself have had a bit of a chat about it and we thought maybe a camper van and a decent sized trailer(never know what we'll bring or for that matter take home with us ;D). Of course you and all the other ex kiwis over there will probably be stirring up the Trans-Tasman rivally before we get there and then probably drop it all in our laps ;D. Luckly TMB is fast talking and I will be able to make a quick getaway before the boomarangs start flyin our way ;D. Hopefully me and Bill can bring some lovely kiwi mud with us ;) for all the ockers to slip 'n slide in ;D.
