Classic Dirt 10 at Conondale QLD
From VMX Magazine's Facebook page:
"Classic Dirt is returning to Conondale, supported by Yamaha Australia, Shannons Insurance and Engineered Environments. This venue played host to Classic Dirt 6, 7 and 8 and those were three of the most memorable Classic Dirts ever held. So we're coming back!
The dates are 20-22 June and there'll be action aplenty (but no racing of course) with all the features of previous Classic Dirts at this great venue plus a new flat track (universal rear tyre required). So there'll be the main Pre '90 track (oh yes, it's stepped up to Pre '90 now, given the popularity of that class in Qld in particular), a Pre '78 track, a vinduro course, a Trials area, and, the aforementioned flat track. Camping, catering, bar, good showers....all the same as past years and proven quantities thanks to the great organising skills and enthusiasm of the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club.
Find all the details in Issue 57 of VMX Magazine (due out late March). See you there."
So everyone, it's on and it's in Queensland. This thread will be a sticky until then, so it's over to you to hype the heck out of this event. Go for it!!

A few pics of the Grass Track.

Great to see it includes a Grass Track/Dirt Track. I know John Titman has two proper Long Track/Grass Track bikes he brought back from the UK. Hopefully he will bring them out. Maybe even room for some speedway riders in the legends.
We just need some rain now to turn Green Park (green). I'm sure that will happen. I'm not surprised Cotty is supporting it. He has a property at Maleny.
If anyone wants to come up a week early. The Qld Classic and Post Classic MX Champs will be at Harrisville the week before 15 & 16 June.
All roads lead to Queensland in June.

It just keeps getting better and better :)

The weekend chosen for CD10 this year is 8) with me

I wouldn't miss it. I've been to every Classic Dirt and while some have been better than others, they've ALL been great. We normally don't camp but will this time so as to suck up more of the vibe. Beware of the Blenders!

We are getting the rain now, so all we need is good follow up rain and "Green Park" will be green again.

Please note that Registering to Ride does not include Event Entry, Camping Fee, Rider's Licence Fees or Levies. They are all paid at the event itself. ;)
Riding registration will be limited to 600 riders, so don't miss out! :'(

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm bloody excited CD 10 is coming and I can't wait. I'm amazed by the lack of excitement or even comment on here. I wonder what's going on ???
Previous CD's had people rabitting on for page after page about how cool it is.
Just an observation. Any theories anybody ?
I personally am going to hype it up as much as I can. I tell every old dirt biker that will listen that if they haven't been before they've GOT to go. I've only missed one since CD5 where I met a lot of people that I still call my friends today.
Come on people. Channel your inner Big Kev and get excited 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Tony only my opinion but I think the lack of response re CD 10 just reflects the current mood of the forum . Go back to the threads for CD5 , CD6, CD7 and see how many of the posters are still regular contributors on the forum . How many of the current regular forum posters have attended a CD event ? its hard to get excited about an event you have never been to .
I think the event will get a push on FB once the magazine is out and people realise that it is happening again .
I believe CD 10 will be huge and that many of the forum faces from the past will roll out again for the event :)
I too will encourage all I know to come to CD 10 so we can recapture that sense of camaraderie that it seems is lost in cyber space these days .
Cheers Bill

Bill are you going?
Im trying to decide still as I leave for 14 days ridding in Romania the following days afterwards. So Im a little time poor.

I paid-up last year, wife & I booked holidays and it was cancelled with a poor explanation, I'll not commit again, plus Qld has a large number of riders & events (I'm jealous), I'm happy if they continue to run events up there, just call it the QCD1 or the Queensland Post Classic Champs ;-)
-
He, you only get out what you put in, it's not our fault we have lots of hard working people and awesome tracks......are you coming to the Echo Valley Nats?.....those A5's will love the track and I have just finished one for a young fella who should go quite well.

Make sure you bring "Fully Loaded Man" AKA DJ. We will need a mobile beer repository ;D
The sense of comaraderie you speak of is what got me hooked on VMX. Meeting all you guys was one of the best times of my life. At the time of CD5 I hadn't ridden a dirt bike for 20 years and I had a shit box YZ250 project in a million peices. I'll always remember meeting Ted the grumpy old bastard and being inspired by his 465. That's not to mention the rest of the crazy blokes on here. Now I have 13 bikes (in various states of repair) and have ridden races (really, really badly). It's all about the fun and the CDs are 3 days chock full.
-
Grumpy. Would you think grumpy, William? Must have been the present company Tent Peg ;D ;D

Now I get it. Romania rocks! J

I think this thread might be easily overlooked being stuck at the top of the page!
It does appear that the planets are aligning... "Mars, Earth and the Sun today aligned in a rare ‘opposition of the planets’ that only happens once every 778 days."
If I make it up there this year then maybe CD could be held every 778 days :o
I suspect many (like me) aren't sure if we can make the pilgrimage so aren't talking it up in case we don't make the trek and end up accused of being cyber wankers.

After reading previous recriminations and accusations over previous failed events I would have to agree with you Geoff. Many are likely to be a bit conservative.
Having said that though .... I'm going for sure :)

Hi everyone!
This is just a reminder that we need everyone to register to ride prior to the event. Don't be slack and wait for the last moment.... the riding registration is ESSENTIAL to be able to ride at the event and is also what we (VMX and the Club) use to gauge what facilities are required. So get to it. Register if you are coming - NOW!

Please enter, but also fill out the attendance survey (even if you are not ready to enter) and also send an email to Andrew Powell the local member to let him know how important events like this at Green Park is to the community. Even if you just let him know where you are coming from and how long you will be on the coast. Also tell him if you plan on purchasing food and drinks from the P&C Canteen.

entered, survey done and emailed mr powell, even though i am a resident of the area i pointed out that if events such as classic dirt are taken from green park and held interstate, then that is where us locals would be taking our money. its is not only about money coming to the area it is also about money leaving the area.

Good point well made GRA. Unfortunately commitment to a new job will mean I cant ride but might come out for a beer [ or two ] on Saturday night. woo hoo.

I did it via his website and the link Noel provided. I didn't get the opportunity to keep what I wrote and unless you copy and paste it you probably won't do either.
Maybe if you drafted it in microsoft word or something then when you're happy with the wording, cut and paste it into the message or email to him?

Hi everyone! IF you are planning to ride at Classic Dirt, don't forget to register prior to the event! We will cap the number of riders and no doubt you would hate to miss out!

yeah sent my form and email re keep park in, even though in unzud, used tourism angle
after going to all classic dirts will not be there this time, but great venue
-
Without sounding like a thicky, is there something in particular that the club wants these pollies to do ?
I assume it is to interject and resolve the differences between the parties to ensure the future of Green Park :-\
On their website the club mentions a form letter attached, but I can't see it. I will post my version of things up in the hope it helps others.
This is what I have so far ... Hopefully the facts are correct
Good Morning Jenny, Andrew and Andrew,
It is with significant concern that I write to you today about the future of Green Park, Connondale as a motorcycle recreation facility. In recent times I have watched the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club struggle with the many issues they have had to deal with, all as a direct result of the new trustees of Green Park. As you may be aware, this relationship has now deteriorated to a point where the trustees have served the club with a breach of the lease.
The trustees do not seem at all interested in the heritage of more than 30 years of motorcycling events, nor the enjoyment that this park has provided many thousands of participants and spectators over this time. I am concerned that the trustees did not attend a mediation session regarding the alleged breach of lease, and by the fact that they further issued the club with documentation that is (I suspect by design) completely unworkable.
It would seem to me that the new Trustees of Green park are intent on closing down the park or significantly changing its use. This is not an acceptable outcome to myself or thousands of others.
I have participated in many events at the Green Park venue and I am very much looking forward to the Classic Dirt event to be held in early June. This event is the biggest non competitive event on the Australian dirt bike calendar and Green park has been chosen as the favoured venue for 4 of the last 5 events. Many hundreds of people from all over Australia come to visit the Sunshine Coast area to attend this event. I'm sure you understand the knock-on effect of this event alone for the area let alone all the other events that occur there throughout the year. If this unique venue is lost to the dirt biking community the knock-on effects of all these events will be lost, not only to the Sunshine Coast area, but potentially to Queensland altogether. I'm sure you'd agree this would be a travesty. I say the venue is unique as there is nowhere else in Australia like it. It simply canot be lost to the motorcycling community.
Can I please ask , in the interests of thousands in the motorcycling community, that all of you interject and do whatever you can to help resolve the issues between these two parties to protect the future of Green Park forever for use by current and future generations of motor cycle enthusiasts.
If you wish to contact me to discuss the matter further, please feel free to reply here.
Thank you for your time
-
OK, a huge thank you to all the people who have filled out the survey and sent emails. Please keep filling out the survey.

Awesome work Jeff :)
-
So what or where is the hype??
It seems very quiet on the forum compared to pre other CD events. I'm packed, sorted and ready to go, I hope there's going to be a turn out worthy of CD and similar to or better than past Conondale CD event.
-
Same Pete. Been toying with the bikes and stuff in anticipation off and on for the past couple of weeks ;D
-
So what or where is the hype??
Your right, there should be hype!! Here's some:
Rick is really happy with how the Enduro loop has been set out with hard and easy sections and the track conditions are perfect.
The Grasstrack has a good grass growth and is smooth as.
The Pre90 track has been prepped and will fun and easy to pass.
Pre78 track will again be the pick of the tracks.
The creek is low so expect a few good rocky trials section.
Town centre is looking picture perfect.
The P&C are working on a great menu and are keen to impress with there food.
Drinks will be available again at the Magoo Bar.
The layout will be much the same as CD8.
We have done a lot of promotion to increase the general public awareness of the event and our sport.
So not only get your entries in, tell people that you think might get a kick out of seeing so many great old bikes in such a great place.

Hype?? you want hype?? Noel has some of it covered but he forgot to mention that He and a bunch of us crazy people have spent all weekend out there prepping the place and it looks bloody fantastic. That's on top of all the work undertaken the previous weekends and the work that will be done this week, this weekend and the following week leading up to the event. Home tonight after a great weekend at CD10. Everything was superb, the weather, the tracks and all the friendly faces.
My highlights were the vinduro loops (both easy and hard) where I could let my XL250 do it's thing and the pre78 mx track where my RM250B just loved it's embrace.
Extra thanks to all the organisers from VMC mag, Sunshine Coast MCC, Yamaha and all the other sponsors and helpers.
-
Ditto .
Extra thanks to all the organisers from VMC mag, Sunshine Coast MCC, Yamaha and all the other sponsors and helpers.
Well done.
Seen some old faces and met some new ones. rattled my bones loose moved some parts on to people who needed them more than me but mostly, just enjoyed the vibe of CD10.
Brilliant weekend with brilliant machines and brilliant people.
-
A great weekend all round. Tracks were excellent, great vibe and people. Got to ride some cool bikes and marvel at Mr Barsby's mechanical prowess ;D
Thanks to those that put in what was obviously a massive effort to get the venue this good yet again!
-
Awesome weekend, meet Pokey, MickD and a few other new faces, caught up with some good old mates, CD is alive and well, 377 riders at last count with plenty of day trippers/hangers on, some beautiful new bikes out for the first time [one was the Hampsters SWM250 in blue....big chicken was to scared to ride it in case he scratched the paint on the tank...LOL].....Watching Deacon [D] and Army [3] going for it today in the legends laps was worth the price of entry, Robert Scott was punting along very well too, Ballard was making his Maico dance all around the track and the ever present Laurie Alderton still blasting around at 76 years young.....everybody was asking.."where's Ted?"....unfortunately he threw a heart muscle [typical Manly supporter]....still, the organisers where happy he didn't show and cause any damage to the underground plumbing...again...LOL. A big thanks to the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club, VMX magazine, the legends, all the people that came [especially those that travelled from far, I spoke with a few boy's from Cairn's....2,000km's each way], all the workers and in general everyone that came, all smiles and happy people. I saw a few DT250B orange tankers riding around, that was my first ever new bike, bought back some great memories of the mid 70's and a few life experiences, lots of trail bikes. I think they may have set a new world record for one event.....2 MX tracks, a trials course, a grasstrack flat track, a enduro loop [easy/hard] all operating at the same time, well done. O'l Billy Forsyth still wobbling around with his trusty box brownie snapping at anything that moved. Best thing about it is we all get to go back in 2 months time for the Conondale Classic, bring it on, cheers.....BTW , a big thanks to the Fox's for looking after the old cripple [me] for the weekend.
-
WOW back home and getting ready for work , Did I really go to CD10 or was it just a dream . I had a great time big thanks to Tent peg Tony Barsby ,aka YZ250H. For putting me up for the weekend and suppling everything for me including transfers and accomadation ,thanks Mate . The vandy brothers and mainline for providing plenty of free entertainment in the camp and letting me ride there bikes also thanks boys . And to the VMX crew and everyone who set up and run the event well done it was a cracker . Hilly.

What a great friendly bunch of blokes the QLD VMX rank and file clubies are.
Saturday night, I did NSW proud in the drinking stakes, You would be proud Teddles.
Last man standing ;D Although when I staggered home I did hear someone up taking a leak.
Huge effort 8) a big thank you all that got it together and to the physical hard working lot that made it happen, right down to the guy who wore a set of ride-on mower blades out, dead set Champion ;) and their women and families who pitched in, even kept the toilets and showers clean supplied and serviced with a smile. I met so many hard working people including two of the loveliest laddies when a python threatened the amenities block ;D ;D The local community for their support great tucker.
What a killer complex, Truely world class.
Davey Crocket showed and explained the Conondale Classic track layout to me, of the joining of the pre78 and Main track together, Do your self's a favor, plan now, don't miss it, get there early so you can catch your breath and get in the groove. Many thanks to all. :-* ;D

Many thanks to the teams at VMX magazine and QVMX for putting on another fabulous event.
We appreciate the amount of effort the QVMX team put into this fabulous event , which in my opinion , is most probably one of the best venues in Australia.
Most importantly thanks to the supporters of the VMX movement , "Riders and restorers" Australia wide who travelled from far and wide to attend this fabulous event.

Just got back to my desk after one of the best Classic Dirt events of all time.
Had a great weekend. Thanks to all the QVMX guys and gals [for their huge efforts] and to all the punters that showed up and confirmed that Vintage Motocross is one of the great pass times.
Thanks to all the sponsors: Yamaha Australia, Engineered Environments, Shannons, Queensland Electrical and the others who have escaped my ever aging brain at present.
It is always fantastic to catch up with so many familiar faces and to meet new ones.
But next year I won't content to be welded to VMX Central - I have to have a bike to get out onto that fantastic dirt track.
Congrats to all involved!!!

Great pics. Who owns the RM465?
I did the tank on that one.

Great Weekend,
just the right amount of moisture,
Enduro track was as black as without being greasy,
Grass track was a hoot,
Pre 78 Track easy and big track late Sunday afternoon was perfect.
and the showers were HOT.
Posted some photos on facebook.
French colours SWM, easily the prettiest bike there!
and Yamaha allocated time to the workers to ride their Bikes late Sunday afternoon.
Big Thanks to all the workers, well done!

Yes, back yesterday from CD10 as well.
On behalf of VMX Magazine, I'd like to thank Sunshine Coast MCC and all their workers for the huge effort they put in to bring Classic Dirt back from the brink. Also our sponsors, without whom the event just would not happen, Yamaha, Shannons Insurance, Engineered Environments, Queensland Electrical, F1 Finance & Lease.
Also thanks to the guys that ran Trade Stands, you added colour and professionalism to the event.
Thanks also to the legends that came along and impressed us with their non diminished speed and style.
And of course big thanks to all those that came along and supported the event with their attendance. With just short of 400 riders, the event was viable and hopefully a sign that bigger things may be possible - assuming of course that CD11 goes ahead! However, at this stage the signs are good, so fingers crossed ;)

Yes, as an average punter, thank you for putting on a great weekend.
I don't suppose there is anyway that we could have three days of ridding at the next one?
If not? How about four :) ;D

Which it great to see it get good raves on here ..instead of ifs and buts...
well done all involved.....

Hope fully all the gods will align and if C/D is to be held next year it will be announced 6 months early and numbers will go up.With choices of meetings and hard times a good heads up will benefit all.
-
Don't worry Bazza, if CD11 happens it will be announced much earlier! There were a lot of reasons why the decision to run CD10 was delayed, those reasons don't come into play now. 8)
-
Looks like the event was as awesome as predicted 8) Due to circumstances beyond my control I missed it :( Congrats to all involved in the organising :) and to all the lucky B#$%&ds who got there I am eternally jealous , I made the last 3 CDs held at Connondale so I know how great the marriage between the event ant the venue is ( also been to CDs in Vic and NSW.
Hope CD 11 is goer and that I get there :)

sure we will both be there young Bill
