You betcha...I've never been much of an Elsinore fan but this one's a little gem. Unrestored bikes in this condition rarely if ever show up any more. I loved those Inter-Am bars and still have them on my flat trackers and squarie Maico.....where they've been since about 1974. I wonder how much the Honda is going for?

Theres a photo forum for those who want to show whats in their sheds  ;) generally in the for sale forum its good practice to put what price you are asking for something .

There is  a fairly original one for sale over here , I will try to get some pics and a price up . I think he wants about $5k NZ

Hi
Sorry about not posting a price at this stage
Bike will be widely advertised in the near future, I'm open to offers but I would be stupid to put a figure on it at this stage.
Just wanted to make the people who appreciate these bikes & mines condition aware it is for sale hoping a collector might be Its next owner
Also sorry about the photos not opening , Paul Farrelly came to my rescue & put them up for me thanks again paul
                                                                                                                              Regards Wayne

At the risk of sounding like an ass Wayne, I am not sure you are serious about selling this bike.  From what I can see, this is the second time this bike has been advertised without a price and now you say you will be widely advertising it in the near future???  So will that be with or without a price?

Obviously you want as much for the bike as you can get, that's a given as we all do when we are selling our beloved bikes, but surely you must already know what it is worth to you (not to a collector, but to you mate)???

Anyway I suspect this will upset you enough already so I will stop there but if you want to sell the bike, put a price on it that you will accept.

Good luck
Craig

IMO right now that bike is worth $4,500 to the right person who wants a fantastic starting point for a pool room queen $5000 and as always it's worth what someone is willing to pay.

IMO dont get ppls hopes up tht there is still a good gen cr floating about for someone to buy if u cant come up with a prices for it. It might be worth a few bucks but at the end of the day it aint worth a f@#k load so either keep it or move it on to someone who will use it not treat it like a stupid lounge lizard.  ;) ;D

Gone are the days where someone is gunna get a hard on and offer 6 or 8K for something like that. More likely someone will sit in the back ground and wait... If it was unused from new and as new then that's something else....
Nice bike all the same- the owner and whoever built it should be proud...

I dropped a subtle hint about the originality of this bike when I dragged up the old post from 2010,If you didn't get it read Wayne's first "for sale" post from then,He tells us that the frame has been put back to original as it was LTR'ed back in the day as was the hot setup for the time,I seen this bike at HBBB before the repairs were done,This was no simple conversion, the diagonal rail running from the seat mounts to the footpeg bracket had been given a major cut & shut, moving the shock mount to about half way between,The repair job looks to be well done, but the seat, pipe, swingarm & sidecovers were also modified & have not been put back to original by the looks,The pipe sticks up way too high, the seat has chunks missing from both sides at the rear mounts & the swingarm has strengthening ribs welded on top,I am assuming the side panels are repo's,Also take a look at the fork lowers,They have been lightly turned down in a lathe for lightness/trickness,So I would not call this bike original or a good basis for a garage queen,It still looks OK though,BTW,last time this bike was advertised I sent Wayne an email enquiring on the price he replied "ozvmx told me it was worth in between 5 & 10K depending on condition & I have had offers in that range" :)

To give you guys a 'rough' guide, I sold one of these in VERY similar condition (without 'mods'  ;) ) in 2010 for $7000 on ebay.

Mine was for sale though....  :P

$5k is probably a realistic price these days - most of us know they have dropped a little for reasons well discussed on this forum.

This one loooks nice though.

I miss mine .....   oh and the 7k didnt go far....   :-\

So it sounds like the mob have spoken  :D In short: the mob says the bike is likely not quite "an original", also they say its probably worth a maximum of 5k in this country, in this current market.

G'Day
just a note to set things straight, my original post sent to OZVMX was to advise the people I thought "appreciated" bikes of this era and in this condition that it was for sale, giving them first opportunity if they were interested.
Obviously I was wrong there.
The 1st line of my post probably should have read "will be for sale in the near future"
However at the bottom of that post I put my name, phone number and email address if anyone wanted to talk to me about it.
Where I come from that's how we do it, if you want to know something, you talk to "them" about it.
Have to apologise I know F@#k all about computers and forums ETC. That's why my photos didn't work.
Thanks again to Paul Farrelly, there you are, Paul has a name and can be contacted.
Rookie, Hagon, BigK do you have names and phone numbers? I'm happy to talk to you about my bike.
Smed I remember emailing you in 2010. I told you everything about the bike, no secrets.
You're right the repairs were done well by myself as a fitter/tuner and welder of 35+ years.
I don't understand some of your other comments. The swing arm is "original," yes it does have ribs welded to the top "makes great structural strength sense to me" but their easily removed.
And the pipe is original, don't know what photos you've been looking at.
I have no idea what your talking about with the seat and rear mounts, what mounts?
I did contact an OZVMX committee member in 2010 who was very helpful and told me 5-10K depending on the condition.
"Hagon" can you tell me what IMO, PPLS and little smiley faces mean I don't understand all that stuff.
BigK (funny name) if you're not interested, I'm not wasting your time.
Besides there must be shitloads of CR250m's in this condition for sale.
To the people who appreciated the bike thanks for your comments I bet you're good club members.
(have names like John Orchad and Johnny O too)
Once again if you're interested or want to know any information I'm happy to talk>
Regards Wayne

I don't want to buy your bike, I already have a couple. If you want to sell something you have to name a price or it ain't for sale. I've never been into an establishment that sells things & not seen prices, hell even the supermarket does that. Name a price, if it's deemed cheap or fair you'll sell it, if it's too high you can negotiate or you'll be keeping it anyway. Expecting prospective buyers to be the buyer & the seller at the same time doesn't work real well. You can have the K from my funny name & add it to yours if you like.

You have a nice bike , I would prefer if got it out of the shed and race it drank beer by the fire and turned up at heaven events.
Nothing wrong with coming on here and fishing for a sale but dont be upset when you are called for it.
Why there not are many bikes like your for sale in the same condition in Aus  there are some in USA much the same as yours you can buy under 4k.

At the end of the day, it's not a YZA Yamaha or a Maico 490, so they way the market has shifted with the world wide economy, in my opinion, no bike is worth or getting more than 5K at the moment. Sad, but true. I have some lovely bikes that owe me shitloads more than that but if I had to sell any of them that's probably  all I'd get.

My picture is taken from an original Honda sales brochure I have,The exhuasts look quite a bit different to me ;)
If it makes you feel any better Wayne I own a 1974 CR125M & CR250M,when purchased both bikes had the LTR treatment, luckily the 125 was only modded in the swingarm not the frame :)
 (http://i1266.photobucket.com/albums/jj529/smed45/supercross110_zpsde70d9af.jpg) (http://s1266.photobucket.com/user/smed45/media/supercross110_zpsde70d9af.jpg.html)
The 250 however was modified on the upper mounts, they had welded on new mounts but left the old in place thankfully not cutting & shutting the frame :)

both bikes have now had the process reversed, the 250 is still a work in progress, the 125 is now a garage Queen :)

So I think I know a little about Elsinores ;)

As far as the seat goes if you have not altered it since I seen the bike at HBBB it is modified not original ;)
I do not want to pick on you or your bike mate,I just did not want someone to buy a so called original bike based on the photos & your description & be disappointed, that's all :)

4k is too much as it looks wrong in many places?
I sold an original with a dented alloy tank progressive shocks and foran pipe for $2750 I wanted more but that was all anyone wanted to give me, I had a new original front plate and new original levers and covers, New Shocks, Cromed forks with a Fox kit that I found! so I think mine was better and I sold it a few years back , like others have said the prices are dropping as parts are impossible to get if you want to race the thing,
Anyone got a nice 84 CR500 let me know

Hi Smed
I replied to your post regards my CR but must have messed it up don't know what happened to it I'll try again , thanks for your reply , I now see what you mean with the exhaust, in comparison of the two photo's mine has a bend at the chamber outlet putting the silencer at a flatter angle , not sure why maybe it was done during the suspension mod before I got it , been like it for the 34 yrs I've had it.
In your post you informed readers that my bikes frame had had a 'Major Cut & Shut' I think that's a bit of an exaggeration
The only frame parts altered were the shortening , bending forward & reattaching of the diagonal tubes from the footpeg area to the main frame & the repositioning of the rear shock upper and lower mounts
However did the suspension mods (before I brought it) used all the factory outer mounts just shifting them forward leaving the inner mounts in position on the main frame & swing arm
I relocated those original mounts back ,in 2010 having the inner mounts to position them back to exact locations , bent sections were replaced with identical chrome moly tubing between side cover lower mounts & main frame about 300 mm in total , all parts tigged back as factory, looks like yours was just left without these tubes when the mods were done.
Maybe I have a different interpretation of original , I'm certainly not trying to deceive anyone or hide anything , Pipe is original had a bend down at chamber outlet(that I've rectified since you alerted me),Seat is original though it has been recovered the big chunks missing you talk about were actually bends in the aluminium- cardboard base material where the rear shocks contacted it while the bike had the rear susp mods , I've removed the cover & straightened the base since you pointed that out
Swing arm is the original item though it has ribs attached to the top
All original mountings & hardware were used in rear susp mod reversal & as I said Factory inner mounts were still there confirming positions
Front fork lower tubes have been lightly turned & polished as you say but are also the original items
Perhaps my original post should have read CR250M in excellent 'as' original condition, The only parts I know of which aren't original are as you said new side covers & front No plate (have the originals), also rear shocks , bars & clutch lever
You have an exceptional eye for detail & obviously have put a great deal of research into these bikes , the condition of yours is testament to that
Congratulations on a fine example of MX history . you've seen things I've been looking at for 34 yrs & didn't notice
I've decided I believe my bike to worth & so advertise it at $6500.  I'll try an attach a latest photo of It .                                                                             All the best Smed Regards Wayne

1973 Honda CR250M Elsinore
Race prepped and ready to go - with a full tank of 50/50 race/pump gas to boot.
This bike had a full motor rebuild about three races ago. That included transmission mods, new crank bearings/seals, new piston rings and Swain Tech coated piston. Much work has been done to this bike, from the restorative rebuild a few years back, to the recent freshening up. This bike has been set up well, cared for, raced conservatively, and is ready to go have fun on and win races if that's your thing.
How does $2,500 sound? Call/write with questions/offers/or anything else.
Thanks!
Jon
