I'd love to be there, any Queenslander got any ideas as to getting a swag of bikes there. If i have to drag my bikes down myself, it will be out of the question. If someone wants to drive a big pantec down and has room for my bikes, i would be keen to pay my way as the time away from work is the big killer for me.

Same goes for SA , if everything is going ahaed in Tassie. We would be taking the race truck and could tow a big trailer with bikes for other people. But things would need to be sorted early , as we could not do a last minute operation.

Hi Guy,
Just an update
Tassie Nationals are defiantly a goer (but over 3 days)
Friday 6th Scruttinering and Practice
Saturday 7th 2 rounds
Sunday 8th 1 round and presentation dinner that night.

The Venue is confirmed at Quercus Park Carrick about 15 minutes from Launceston in the north of Tasmania
The track will be natural terrain with a couple of small jumps for the older bikes and a few larger jumps for the newer bikes this track will be designed to cater for both old pre 60 bikes as well as the later pre 85 bikes also, with the track being two tracks in one. We would race all bikes on the one day with sections of the track changed for the older and newer classes.Myself and a couple of our committee designed the Deloraine track in 2003 and ask any one who raced how great it was, next years track will be as good or better Guaranteed.
We are in the process of signing a naming right sponsor as well as holding talks with a couple of accommodation places for cheap packages for you guys who come.
The Sub Regs and Entry forms will be released as soon as the 2008 MA GCRs are released with a list of new rules and classes including evo and pre 85.
Please feel free to ask me any questions and I will get back to you asap as I am answering about 8 emails a week to do with next years championships.

Cheers

Hi Fatboy , do you run weekend licenses? What are the procedures and requirements to obtain.?There must be more people like me , that only participate one event for the year and dont want to pay 300.00 or more and jump through hoops.

The Senior One meeting National licence will apply at these Championships. Refer to page 43 of the 2007 MOMS (Manual of Motorcycle Sport-the rule book) for details of how to apply for this licence.

Brad
myself and Col Metcher will be (hopefully) going pending some issues, (wife very sick) assuming all is OK what we did the last time was to use the local Launceston removal company who picked up crated bikes from work and allowed us to put them together at their depot. We rented a ute and the rest is history, really simple cost about 800 per bike and Col and I shared the bikes between us. We then did everything in reverse and flew home.

It worked out really well considering it cost me $1100.00 in fuel and about 2k overall to get to CD4 and 2 days each way.

I'm going to be looking into it in the new year and will post what we are doing to get there and any other Queenslanders are welcome to jump on board, might save some money if there is more of us

Hypothetically  ::) could a person enter a pre 75 bike ie CR 125M or TM 250L in the pre 75 class .

Then move the shocks to modified mounts on the frame and ride in Pre 78 at the same event  ???

Why would you i hear you ask  :o In a nut shell more ride time without carting more bikes across the ditch  :)

Hey Dave and others wanting to do the treck to Tassie, my old man is willing to do the trip, provided 1 or 2 others come to share the driving so as to drive straight through.I had thoughts of hiring a pantec and draging my dads big trailer which will be enclosed. I would fly down myself so i dont have to take as much time off work.Anybody up for that?

HAs the committe or club approached the Boat people so as to get a discount to riders for the event ? im assuming the only way over is the boat so it would be good if someone could make the approach for a group discount or event booking so as to keep cost down and entice more folk.

We had our AGM last night and sorted out some stuff for the championships,we have a major sponsor signed up,and put together a sub-committee to organise the details.

Mathew Thompson remains as our president and Shane Fraser (alias Fatboy ) is the secretary again.
Any details that come up will be posted here by Shane or myself.

camping at the track is not available due to the usual liability crap, but there are caravan parks within 15- 20 minutes.

A motel style accommodation package is being formed at the moment and details will be made available ASAP

remember that it is only approx 21 weekends to go

Since when is camping a liability? This is new to me. Are we able to ride or is that too much of a liability (tongue in cheek of course)? So does this mean having to pack everything up every night? Please explain.

Camping together and have a yarn , thats how I always envisioned a title event . But it looks like noise meters and motels are the new way to go. I will have think again.

security will be the same deal as the 2003 nationals.  -pits and site protected by security personel.worked well at the last nats here.we left our bikes under our quickshade, some took their bikes with them. the site is an internal area with single access through several lockable gates.

Walter, the noise thing is being worked on,and I would love to have a classic dirt style camp but this particular venue won't allow it.There is no reason that we couldn't book out a large area at the local campground if thats what people want.

Most of our club members could offer a place to park a trailer or shed a couple of bikes if needed, all it will need is some communication, let me know your needs and we will see what can be done.

Hi Guys,
As Gorby said we had our AGM the other night and we are well on the way to organzing a great nationals Championship, The track is about 15 minutes up the road from Launceston, which has lots of accommodation, everything from camping ,backpackers to the casino, The nearest camping area would be the Hadspen Caravan Park which is about 6 minutes down the road and also has cosy cabins but these are very limited so you best hurry. There is also camping about another 6 minutes away at Treasure Island Caravan Park, what you guys need to understand is June is bloody cold as low as minus 6 over night camping is great but in Tassie in June is tough. There are lots of Motels and Hotels with in the Launceston area as well as accommodation in the Deloraine,Westbury area .
I am working on the sub regs now and will have them to Ma very soon and in turn I will release them to you .
Sidecars will be a go in Tassie but I need to now from you guys what classes you would like to run as we will run all classes as per the GCRs if there is enough numbers or will there only be enough to run a pre 85 sidecar class. I need your feedback.

All other classes will be in the sub regs as per the 2008 gcrs
At this stage noise regs are as per the gcrs at 96 db but I dont think this will be an issue, we still need you guys to lobby MA to change them back to match 102db which is historic roadracing .Get you state body to do that also. We have down here as Motorcycling Tasmania has sent a letter to all state bodys as well as the commision and Ma and so far we have received great responce from MSA and MNT I just hope we get the support of the other states.

We will keep you informed about all issues as time gets closer please look for the sub regs in the next few weeks and any other info will be posted

cheers

Hi Rossco,
you only need a pre 85 bike to qualify for a full Australian Championship This year there is every thing from pre 60 to pre 85 including evo and they are ALL Championship classes.
The sub regs are completed and awaiting MA approval, they will be out in the next week or so I will release them on this site as well as Motorcycling Tasmania site .

I'm sure you've thought of this, but I reckon you need to have a stand, or at the least, a bunch of fliers at CD5.

Other than that, places to advertise include ADB and Dirt Action and that free paper, Torque. Torque will most likely run a fair sized piece for you, give them a bell and see what they'll do. Both ADB and DA have those small sections where they put stuff like this and shouldn't cost too much for that.

Then find out which are the clubs most into vintage and get them to advertise on their club websites. Maybe even the vintage wbsites like QVMX, VIPER, WA VMX, HEAVEN and so on.

Think outside the square too. Speedway clubs like the SSRAV* do not race in the cooler months, and quite a few Classic Speedway riders have an older MXer or two  in the shed.. South Australia has lots of older machines with riders in clubs . Get to it you are on the net ,try Googling in Australian motorcycling clubs ,not to mention MA main or the State MAs club lists on their sites. If you get one entry from each club you try ....well think how many clubs you can find... ;) Offer a discount of some sort (it does not have to be much like $5 it covers postage and time to fill out forms!!) Get some local accommodation and eatery , motorcycle (maybe they might open the workshop on Saturday evening, that is always well received) , car hire , travel agent etc businesses to supply some cards, to post out with your poster/flyers! YOU have by now printed them ready to post out haven"t you ??
Fact.. You will not get enough entries by just fiddling around with important people like us here, we are in the know already. Tim.
* Speedway Sidecar Riders Association of Victoria .

I HOPE A LOT OF PUBLICITY OFFICERS TAKE NOTE OF AND COPY OTHERS AND MY SUGGESTIONS ! SO MANY GRIZZLE AND WHINGE AND CRY ABOUT LACK OF COMPETITORS AND ENTRIES BUT DO NOT BOTHER TO DO ANYTHING BUT TELL THEIR OWN SMALL CLIQUES AND GROUPS.. IF YOU DO NOT GET IN AS MANY FACES AS YOU CAN NO MATTER HOW SMALL AND TENUOUS THE HOLD OR ASSOCIATION YOU WILL MOST LIKELY BE DOOMED TO FAILURE. ADVERTISE YOU EVENT EARLY LONG AND HARD.

Hi all,
Thanks for your reponses, Myself and the club President will be coming to CD5 to hand out flyers, sup regs and answering questions. We will also take payment from you if you leave it that late to enter.

Freaky the cost of bringing a car across at the moment is $99.00 for yourself and $61.00 for your car this will get you a sleeper seat that can be upgraded for about another $60.00 to a cabin. If you bring a ute with your bikes on the back this is resonable well priced, it becomes dear when you put a trailer on the back as they charge by the length.

Cheers

be there on the Thurs Night and out on the Sunday, once the eligibilty stuff is out of the way put me to work on a corner / start/ whatever.

Can the riders make sure that you have correct machine ID per the GCRs IE "E" for Evo etc. This is a requirement at the Australian Championships so better to get it arranged before hand.

Hi All,

Cost as follows for 1, $69.00 + $61.00 for the ute & driver one way, sleeping in an Oceanview recliner, but please keep in mind, there is no sailing from Devonport to Melbourne on the Sunday night, so the return trip will be the Monday, so if you need to work on the Tuesday, do some grovelling now with your boss, unless you are going straight to work once you get back on dry land. Some of you will probably need the rest of the week off to recover, whether that be your liver or your aching bones ?  Sorry guys.

HOw far it the track from the boat. As in if you get the Thursday ferry and you get in the dark, how long does it take to get somewhere you should be so you can get to the track without missing sign in ?  I got this one back on the agenda, i just need to figure out the logistics and i might do it.

but im not one for getting organised, like if i get a cabin do you need to get another person to go in with you or do you get whatever, and when you get off ( the boat that is) is it like a crazy mountain goat ride like trying to get to the snow fields in the dark ?

freaky - no where is far in Tassie - the boat docks at Devonport and would be at most 1 hour to Launceston (maybe less with all the small town bypasses going in).  Depnds on where you are staying.  Carrick is on/just off the main way and as the guys have said is 15/20 minutes closer to Devonport from Launceston - all excellent roads etc etc etc nothing like trying to get to the ski fields!!

Freaky - Carrick is one of those nice small towns you pass through on a trip - as we said it isn't far from Launceston so I dont think there are any specials being negotiated around town as there is heaps of accommodation very close.  I tried to upload a google map for you but my internet connection here at work is so slow it aint going to happen - just go to google maps and put in Carrick Tasmania - not far from Hadspen west south west of Launceston.  As far as convincing somebody to share with them well...............................

cheers

Hope to see you there!

OK i think i have gone and done somthing crazy but Freaky just went and paid for the Boat, now im $396.00 lighter there is no turning back.

So can i ask if there is anyone looking to split a cabin or can accomidated on the fri/sat/sun ?  Im really a quiet guy and just go to bed so im not going to be stumbling in at all hours, be like camping with ya mum :O)

IS anyone meeting up in melbourne or wherever the western Freeway spits you out coming rfrom ballerat way ?  IHNFI where im going and Toll road scare me especially at 4-5pm on a week night so  it would be great if i can meet someone for a pilot in to the Boat place.

I see you cant take Fuel in jerryes onthe boat, so can we get decent gas over there on the way to the track ?

Can someone Start thinking about these things, would be good if someone else wants to play useless with with me, but i like to lock all this things in as i hate surprises or not nowing whats going on.

Far out i must be a total arse.   Not one person wants to share accomadation costs ?
Okay let me rephrase that request, freaky will try to book a motel room or some other cabin for 2  if someone else wants to come in give me a yell and ill cut you a bed or the couch and leave ya money on the fridge.   :P

anyone get the heads up on the cheapest, closest places to start trying this close to the start date ?  i need to lock somthing in.

Freaky - dont panic - it is off season in Tassie and you will often find cheaper rates than advertised if you call - there is plenty of accommodation within 15 - 20 mins of the track.  Mate you would be more than welcome to stay with me but I already have a load of 5 squashed in!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o

www.bassvillas.com.au - on top of the hill somewhere near the Casino I believe - around 15 mins from the track?  I got a place for the family and I (coz all the youngins are coming to) but the lady there is Coral - who seemed very nice.  Probably the biggest discount I was offered was the Penny Royal water mills hotel.  With the family I was looking different to what you would be Freaky but the prices were good although it is in town so is a bit longer to get to the track?

hello freaky,
fuel will be available, details will be available soon, the only thing to remember is that the boat people will make you fill your empty fuel container with water ! And if you try to get a full one thru, they make you tip it out.

The empty containers full of fumes may be used as an explosive( according to the anti terrorist rules)

You may get away with a brand new one if it has never contained fuel.(check with boat people and get it in writing)

see you soon

so water in the fuel for the whole event, maybe fill it with sand instead. :O)

when will you be posting more info up guys ?  seems info like that might be helpful, also fuel is it trackside or how far do we need to go to get some assuming we can also buy some containers to collect it or is there a Tassie pool of Gerrys we can borrow ? ???
Title: Re: Classic MX Nationals 6th-9th June Tasmania
Post by: gorby on May 07, 2008, 12:17:00 am
fuel should be available on the friday at the track, just looking into the legality side, soon as you mention 200 litre drums and transfer into smaller ones,it gets messy with bunding, spill kits, extinguishers, permits etc etc required.
There will be a solution ;)

any extra info will posted here as it comes to hand.

will see what we can do about gerries

Well,we have spent all day working on the track layout for the nationals. The course  has a 40 metre wide start straight,20 metre wide first turn and then the remainder is 8 to 10 metres wide so there will be plenty of lines available.

Total length is 1.5km on a natural paddock with a few manmade jumps being created.
circuit direction is clockwise(as all proper circuits should be ;D) and we have an area of 150 x 30 metres for a bikes only pit, with three rows available for quickshade/shelters.

We have to have 20 portaloos to comply with council permits so you should be right if we give you the shits ;)
The competitors parking will be in a separate well fenced area away from the general public access.

more updates soon....

the track has just had the sheep taken off it two weeks ago and is responding well to the recent rain.
It was used as an overflow carpark last week for the annual farmers field day.

I will post some pictures of the track soon as it is well on the way and final jump works and tyre walls are being completed, It looks great, cant wait.

If anyone has any questions to do with the event / track now is a good time to ask, phone 0438568092

If i finish all 3 days and come home in one peice, with bikes that run and havent lost here lunch out there or that bolt that you can never find cause they are rare as shit, ill be happy.

Im putting it down to a life experiance.   at least you can tell you mates you went racing with Australias best at the highest level, surely that might get you a chick at the bar one night  :O0

just hope they dont ask were you finished, or you could pull the old technical issues story to cover your tracks.

it should be a great drive if nothing else.  well an expensive drive.

Re : Accom- yer get him onto it unless he breaks the 2 rules..... then hes out back in the cold  :P,   hey he might even tune for me or at least wash the bikes down that might get a discount  ;) on our low low rates ....

it was planned to have pre 78 bikes going over the smaller one(left) and the later bikes over the bit bigger one on the right

bit too close to the first jump

Title: Re: Classic MX Nationals 6th-9th June Tasmania
Post by: gorby on May 18, 2008, 10:36:33 pm
we have used the site twice before in different areas at this time of year
(about 800 metres and 1000 metres in each direction )
and hopefully it is the same sort of dirt that pushes up nice berms in the corners as the day goes on.
as this paddock has just been used for a carpark, there are strips that are compacted hard and without much grass= greasy if rained on ;D

the first few races until the grass gets mulched is always a bit slippery ;)
but its the same old story....its the same for every body and sorts the true riders out.

sometimes the fast riders just hit the ground faster and the slower riders (smarter) ride past them slowly as they are trying to restart thier bike or regain  breath.

just viewed the weather on TV,highland snow forcast for tuesday.
you better bring your thermals freaky.

That looks as close to a natural golf course as we're ever going to see, great job lads. I raced the Nationals in 1981 just near Symmons Plains and the HOTTEST it got ALL WEEKEND, 2 forking degrees. A tad chilly, even for the Canberrans.

It's weather like that than can leave a brass monkey incomplete.

yeah Magoo - I raced previously at Symmons Plains - at 3 O'clock in the afternoon it peaked at 2 degrees and after riding through the creek crossing brass monkeys wasn't the right word.

Speaking of which - the 81 Nationals at Symmons - I was there to but didn't ride on the day - helped the local Honda rider Peter McKay.

Gorby, Fatboy and Thomo last year at their best with the Tas Scramble Club.  These are just three photos that I was fortunate enough to be able to have taken.  The club was mad enough to let me on track to take some photos of my Hubby and young son.  Next thing, 'Hey you can do presentation photos for the end of year awards...' :o  Anyway survived that and now I am looking forward to with eager anticipation, the Classic Nationals next month.  ;D

Hopefully the sun will shine and I can try my best at snapping a pic of you all belting around the track that has been lovingly crafted by the boys here.  All the photos that I take will be launched on my site that I have through Google.  http://picasaweb.google.com/scrampics  (http://picasaweb.google.com/scrampics) If its sunny there will be lots :) If its cloudy, not as many as movement and low light don't mix :(   Feel free to take a look(at the competition).  Look forward to seeing you all soon.  Can't wait

hello wombat,
my riding gear tends to bring comments :D.
Its what I use for trailriding as well.
I use a cutdown Smith goggle facemask setup to keep roost out of my nose and mouth.
The coat is an ex army surplus item that keeps me warm when its cold and breathes pretty well when its
hot.
The pants are chap style overpants made out of ripstop canvas that has been crash tested on coarse gravel several times.
Fatboy reckons they are my goatherding pants and once almost started a donation collection to buy me some "proper" trousers !

another day at the track site and we now have the starting setup nearly sorted. The start will be by bungee cord.
As the grid will be 40 bikes wide, the bungee will release each way from a middle trigger point. An air operated release was tried today and worked ok but would have been a hassle with a generator and compressor involved. The manual trip worked alright without much effort so a remote trip is being built tomorrow to keep the starter away from the roost.
All the jumps have been shaped and look good( forgot the camera today )
The transponder reciever loop was buried in conduit under the finish line by fatboy and rob guy.
They reckon the ground was a bit tough after they dug down twelve inches, they had a sweat worked up
when we got there(just as they finished ;D)
fatboy tells me that the final instructions and passes are ready to be sent out so expect them soon.

I think he said 200 bikes are entered, not sure how many riders but the biggest grid so far is 38
so whoever holeshots that start had better not lay it down in the first corner  :o

Well done fatboy...will the Pre 75 age groups be split into capacity groups as well?....Previously there were 125,  250 and also 263 and over classes for age groups..If not ...then can anyone ride any size capacity bike in the age group racing...would seem a little unfair on someone with a 125...
Cheers...

I heard a rumour there is gunna be bags of maico roost for sale after the event... Or broken parts..;D  Hope everyone has a ripper time, should be a great event with a quite a few stand out riders attending by the sounds of it! If them brothers on the old silver yamaha's are attending as well as Shaun, i hope there will be a trophy or 2 headin to VIC.. fingers crossed.

We were planning to enter in Pre 78.. unfortunately with the missus' due date 2 weeks after the titles, it was just a bit too close for comfort.  I'd never live it down if I was stuck in Tassie when it happened!

Next year.. next year..

Hope everyone has a great time.  I'd imagine Shaun B would be a fave for Evo (if the old Maico can hack 3 days of abuse!)

Can someone who knows please confirm this one -  whats the stand on petrol tanks ?   i understand you cant take jerry on the boat,

but what about the tanks on the bike ?  surely they are fixed and excempt like a car is ?

and if so should they be full, half full or empty ? what do they want.  im not going down the fill with water theory i have heard FThat, 30 years of 2 stroke oil in the tank will hold that water for the next  12 months or more !  or is that part of the cunning tassie plot to nobble the oppersition ?
Title: Re: Classic MX Nationals 6th-9th June Tasmania
Post by: fatboyracing on May 30, 2008, 06:18:28 am
Hi Freaky
you are allowed to have the tanks on your bikes full of fuel, They dont like jerry cans on the boat, If you are going to get fuel over here you are better to bye a jerry can here and give it to some one when you leave.

Last weekend to finish off the track all is looking good, hope to see everyone next week

Cheers

hey freaky, I phoned up the boat and the laddy said you can take empty gerry cans on the boat and the bikes can be full of petrol so I am thinking of filling up the bikes in melb with shell racing fuel from the bowser and seeing how long that last , Ive got 9 races on my b50 and only 3 on the 2 other bikes, com sunday I will see whats left . I can see that some tassie boys will end up with some spare fuel for the next meeting seeing you will have to give away what you can't take home

see i dont get it,   if you can take empty jerry cans and full bikes whats the differance if you come back with half empty bikes and half empty jerry cans ?

Im going to full them all up before i leave and wing it when i get there.  Hey Gorby can you still bring that gerry along but it might only need to be half full,  if the bikes are already full i can mix them when i get there and then top up from your jerry.   CAn you grab me say 10 litres on ya travels ?

Just on the off chance no-one has thought of this...

How's about recording as much footage as possible and then editing for a DVD to be sold at a later date?
There's usually someone good with a camera and someone with the nous for editing etc (and it's not necessarily the same person).
Not only endless racing laps but some in the pits stuff; maybe Freaky on the boat challenging the jerry can issue or Gorby explaining his race fashion...
This could apply to most events I reckon - CD5 and Connondale are two which spring to mind.

I sorely wish I had footage of my MX racing from back in the dreamtime.
I can't attend the Tassie Nats but I'd certainly buy a disc to view the event highlights.

Just a thought.

I have thought of it but unfortunately, I can't take still photos and video at the same time.  I will take our video camera with us and perhaps Hubby may get some action in between races??  I would be happy to make a collection of still photos to DVD if there were enough interest.  :)

Hi Scampics,

I'd gladly be interested in a DVD of the weekend event if you go ahead. I'll be taking my trusty old SLR camera as well, but there is always something you miss, so its a yes from us.  :)

Hi Gorby, Dont know who you are, but you are a gem !! Old boy on the slow boat to China tonight with many an MX traveller/competitor as company, tipping there wont be a lot of sleep to be had, so watch out for those weary travellers with bags under the eyes from the main land, who will be keen to check out your set up, see you myself on Saturday. I think the lad up stairs must be a MX god, who has blessed you with the pleasant weather forecast. Have the coffee pot on.

Ah Damn it!! This is sounding so good already. It has the warm and fuzzy CD5 vibe about it!
There's something so blokey about being on a boat with likeminded souls en route to an adventure; not to be confused with the Gallipoli cruise...
Lots of drinking, games of Twister, singing sea shantys...why am I still here?!

You guys are getting publicity from all angles.
I was looking thru my mum's national pensioner newspaper called the "Senior" (& no its not about you Nathan) and in it is a story about Qld legend Col Metcher and other over 70's going to compete in the Aussie VMX titles in Tasmania! They refer readers to the MA website for more detailed info.

First day worked out ok,we were fogbound until after 11am .scruttineering and all the practise went ok without too many problems, the first few bikes almost got knocked back because the footpegs did not self return.
it was due to them being iced up. :) true story.
A few were disgruntled about having to fit sprocket covers(can't really see how your foot could get in there) but rules are rules.
Most other problems were people not reading the regs on the class prefixes and back numbers.
the noise testing was done by random draw and I am not sure of the results,I asked for my bike(XL350) to be tested and it went to 98.9db with a large late model muffler on it.
The competitors whom I spoke to seemed pretty happy, except for a couple of big bore types who longed for the wide open spaces.the track had one of the chicanes modified for safety reasons.
We called for flag marshalls for practise and were swamped with offers :o Lets hope they are as keen tomorrow.
met up with some dodgy characters by the name of freaky and rossvicki so far. Will have to track down
2 shocks.
Just finished fitting a new gearchange shaft to fatboys honda and I am getting weary, better put the head down,
another update will come tomorrow.

day two update.
the fog lifted early,(ice formed on the bunting)cool but the sunshine came thru.
There was a couple of sighting laps for each rider due to some mods to the treacherous first turn and the removal of a tight chicane.
The first three races run without a last lap board but apart from that it all ran pretty good,
only one or two false starts due to riders fouling the bungee and one red flagged race due to the transponder reciever losing power.
my job was bunting repairer and I was kept very busy.
a rider went down hard and the ambos rushed to him while the yellow flag went out but most of the riders
would not slow down.
They slowed when I stood on the top of the jump swinging orange bunting sticks at them ;D then the red flag went out,the rider walked away in the end so it ended up ok.

We ran two rounds of 21 races and finished just as the light was fading, and it had chilled off.

Freaky had a flat tyre in one heat and put another wheel in for the next but had an issue with the brake arm hitting the axle and ....no brakes...but he was still enjoying himself
 (http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u125/mhplum/freakshow.jpg)

congratulations to the WA guys for this effort in getting here, their container arrived late and the last bike was assembled almost in the dark on thursday night.

Top bunch of competitors,99% smiles and great to see them congratulate each other after coming in.

what about the other 1% you say?

you get them everywhere, the whole field can get around a corner but when one of these premadonnas falls off, then its the track design ???

It has been run and won

not real sure who won what until the presentation tonite.

weather was kind, don't think the ambos had to lift a finger,

competitors were great and smiling, one engine size protest and that was dismissed on inspection and both parties were satisfied ,the protester conceded that he was beaten by a fair faster machine/rider.

met mxmaniacs mum and his brother who i am pretty sure won the open evo class from my son!
Its a small world,
I better get cleaned up to party!!!!

There were photographers everywhere so there will be plenty of pics all round! There were TV cameras and news reporters..
WhaT a great weekend, my brother came home with the evo and pre 85 big bore title on the big 490.
Very well run, the racing was unreal, bar to bar racing all day! It was good to see everyone was havin a laugh, meeting other people and checkin out all the neat bikes everywhere.
Thanks to everyone involved, bring on 2009 where i might be un-injured and can have a blast!

I think the Vics did very well.. i would like to see how many trophies are on the way to mantle pieces in Melbourne. ;D
Nick and Jodi Smith and the Herbert brothers kept the commentators mouth dry, I think Nick smith thought it was a 3 hour enduro.. He did back to back races all weekend! He did more races than i can count on both hands and even with taking my shoes off... :D
Peoples heads were spinning seeing how fast all the boys can punt the oil burning antiques around, with Shaun, Nick, Jodi and the 2 Herbert boys Blowing berms to pieces and cuttin lap times that Hurricane Hannah would be bamboozled buy.
Good work Lads.. It was awsome to watch!

Was Gorby's son a young fella on a TT500? number 38? I think it was and he lost the front and crashed in the 1st race while chasing Shaun on the 1st lap, he rode really well to get back upto 3rd, as the tack was very one lined and nowhere to pass. I saw many faster riders doing everything possible to get around slower riders and someontimes not being able to get the job done cleanly.. It was excellent racing!
I think in the other 2 races he got a 2nd and a 3rd. Very nice guy and for someone who was 1st time out on the old banger was on the gas.

Well, what a way to spend three days!  From freezing on Friday with 3 degrees and fog we all thought would never rack off, to two full days of brillant bar to bar racing at its best.  I was out and about with the camera, the lady in the brown beanie trying to snap you all as you ripped up the track!  ;D  Hubby got third in the Pre 85 125 Solo :D ;D That was something.  I have stacks of photos, some I haven't even looked at yet.  My camera is sitting here beside me waiting to reveal some more from yesterday.  These are just two pics I quickly found.  I didn't get home until 12:45am after dodging deer and roo on the way home.  13 hrs sleep in three nights and my brain cells are goin' on strike.  They are of Hubby 175 and Gorby's brother 666  Will post some more when I can.  Also, would be happy to put together a DVD Slideshow of pics for you unlucky souls who didn't get the chance to join us all for an unforgettable three days,

...one engine size protest and that was dismissed on inspection and both parties were satisfied ,the protester conceded that he was beaten by a fair faster machine/rider.

I think we all roll our eyes when we hear of protests, but they're in the rules for a reason. This one sounds like the protester found it hard to believe the winner was on a machine of the stated capacity.

My 326 looks like a 250; no physical difference with only the yellow number plates indicating its true class size.
The previous Owner mentioned perhaps it was originally 'a cheaters bike' as only a 'take the head off' inspection would show the larger bore. For all the World it looks like a 250.

With the protester conceding and "both parties satisfied" you can't ask for more than that. It is an Aussie Title after all...

Post by: TM BILL on June 09, 2008, 12:24:19 pm
Wombat the protester couldn't do much else but concede could he, if the capacity was proved to be what it was entered as then the protester in my opinion should be made to buy a drink for everyone at prizgiving  ;)

As you say rules are there so protest can be lodged, Who pays to reassemble the protested bike when all is as it should be  ???

Looks like it was a great event , damm i should have made the trip  ::) Congrats to all the competitors , glad to see my Mate Nic Smith do well as he was robbed at Coffs last year by bad luck.

Hi All,

Just arrived home from the Apple Isle, and what can I say, we had a terrific time. Track was good, all were happy & friendly, racing was at its best & the presentation night awesome. My personal thanks goes to the Tassie Scramble Club for their effort in putting on a great event. The event even got a look in on Win TV & a couple of the local papers & may I say, it was a pleasure to meet with you Gorby.

the track site has been amost returned to a paddock, the small tracked bobcat has smudged the berms back in and only the dirt from the jumps is left to cart away.A small team of the usual people turned up and packed away the tyres, bales, bunting and orange pegs.

Freaky has returned.  HAd its good, bad, etc etc, but sleep calls.   I have the final placing sheets for 3 races,
pre 74 all powers, pre 74 250 and the 30-39 yr group, each with round points if you nee to know where you ended up.

Have the link written down too so if i get a chance to unpack the car and where i wrote it ill post it but from memory you can see the times  when they upload from the AMB transponders, i think they came from NSW so the results should then come up there in due course --> http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevents.jsp?st=3&org=12723

but All you need really to know Ross#34 was i beat you  ;)

Ann marie have sent you an URGENT PM

And Finally I must also do a shout out to OUR OWN Tony.C from these forums, what a fucn awsome display of riding !  that was some of the best moves i have ever seen, He had those beezas smoking every thing on the track, and had em scratching there heads, that old english shit couldnt be that FAST  :o so they had a protest on the 250 as some kinda 360+,  unfortunately some dill spend $70 bucks to find out they werent, it was just that the captain was on the track.

I saw tony first hand and still cant believe the speed he carried through the corners and the air he took on pre 70 bikes,  you passed me flat knacker over the doubles so fast i though you was part of the skylab falling.

YOU deserved the 4 Australian titles you won on the weekend even with out counting the aussie titles 2nd and 3rd you got.

THAT WAS A real RIDING LESSON. ;D

freaky be back later..................

Here they are this links to the print outs on paper -->   http://www.ma.org.au/AM/Template.cfm?Section=Home&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentFileID=35564

Gorby - thanks also for the lovely photo - NOT!!!!!! :D

What an awesome weekend - haven't had so much fun and met so many great people for forever and a day I think.

Tassie Scramble club are to be complimented on such a good effort - the standard keeps getting lifted higher and higher

Great weekend, Great racing and Great company,
spent time racing freaky and rossco and I think they both got the better of me. I had a great weekend but now my bike looks like it has been run over by a car, exhaust pipe has been broken off at the rear bracket the frame is broken in two different spots, the head gasket has leaked out oil all weekend and in the last race of the weekend for my bike the base gasket blew out and more oil than Iran has pissed out all over the place lucky we are not racing again for a while.Shes going out to Gorbys house on the weekend for a bit of tlc and to fix all the problems. I had trouble on the second corner two races in a row and both times crashing into the bike in front of me. I was at the time angry with myself as once you have crashed it takes all the rest of the race to try and catch up .I had trouble with the manifold coming undune in one race and every time I backed off to take a corner a big blue flame would come out of the engine and burn my leg .I would like to thank all you mainland riders for coming down to race and I am pleased that you enjoyed yourselves. I am still very tired as I think I only had 15 hours sleep in three days and even yesterday I was back at the track packing up from 9.30 am to 7 pm and can now say that the sheep are back on the paddock and apart from the bear earth where the track was you would not know.

Rossco I would be very happy for you to become a FATBOY RACING team member and if you email me your address I will get some stickers done for your bike.

Once again Thanks everyone
Looking forward to the next big event.

Cheers
Fatboy

Rosco you need to look at pictures from other than the first race.

and yes Fat boy i blame that loss on the stupid 2nd courner also.

Alas, it would have been a great track had we been able to ride from the gate up to the doubles albiet in another endless right hand turn.  IM not sure if i even got out of third ? there was no main stright to open the bike up on, and passing through the commentater spot with a  track would have been brilliant.

God if it had another right hander i would have had to kill someone. for some unknow reason when you race most of you life always going left in a anti clockwise direction for the life of me i cant lay a bike over on the right anymore with out pushing wide.  spewy part was on those doglegs you couldnt even slam on the rear for a punch turn cause you had your leg out trying not to slip nto your arse.  Turn 2 reminded me of closing time at the local shopping centre, you just had to line up and wait your turn.

THE WEATHER WAS BLOODY BRILLIANT, not a drop of rain and sunny skys while the mainland apparently was the opposite.  Plenty of dunnies and food so you must have consulted with KENNY.

All round was a great weekend.

infact it was so good im trying to figure out how i can get some bikes all the way up to connondale for next year, assumeing you guys get a committee together soon, be good to fed the forum early so we can give thumbs up and down to your ideas :O)

camping at the track and pit parking is somthing you got going up there .

Ha Freaky,
I didnt know that you wanted a speedway track, the second corner was my fault I fell off not the tracks fault, Sometimes a track that challanges riders is called no good or too hard, Shit if we wanted it to be an easy track we would have applied for the dirt track championships insteed of the Motox.Which ever way we went left or right ment that there would be a lot of left or right turns as to fit 1.5km in that paddock ment that there was to be a lot of corners. I would like to think that more than most riders enjoyed the track, I know that I did even though it was a bit of a challange going anti clockwise.
I think most riders had not riden on a virgin race track like that before hense the windging about how slippery the first corner was until we lost all the grass.

Thanks very much for taking the motor across for Tony T that one was a trade for some xl parts he sent me.

cheers
Fatboy

-I'd be happy to put a disc together  :)  If you can give me until I launch my photos hopefully by the weekend I will get straight to it.  I'll make the cost as reasonable as possible.  Believe it or not, I'm not in it for making lots of money but for the love of it.  I didn't ride over the weekend but I trully loved every minute of being out track trying my hand at seeing what images I could come up with of those who were riding. :)  I am a full time Mum, so about the only chance I really get to sit for a while is when the kids have gone to bed, no one else to help.  Hubby knows how to work the forums and ebay! ;D Bare with me.

I think most riders had not riden on a virgin race track like that before hense the windging about how slippery the first corner was until we lost all the grass.

Thanks for a great weekend Fatboy!! I think the track was grouse, something different, it was like a road race track compared to victoria's tracks. The racing was so close and i really enjoyed watchin how people went about getting past someone as the track was very one lined. I think the whinging about getting the first corner ripped was more common sense than anything, they weren't whinging for no reason, it was concerns that everyone was there to have a ball tearin time without seein old mate get run over in the first corner by many other bikes due to a hard baked road runnin through it. Once they tidied it up i didn't see another crash there unless it was due to some serious bar bangin in turn one. Hence no ambulances required! Thats a good sign.
I wish we could do it all again, it was well worth the trip, very well run and beers all
round!
Thanks to Peter for letting us stay at his mansion.. I want to live there!
Also the VICS took some glassware home ;D

NA the track was good, dont get me wrong, im just no good going right.  but you got to admit that first corner and the second bottle neck was a shitter ? just see the first foto on this page, the pack is jammed in.  would have been nicer i think to have pissed off that corner  and 2 then had a nice flowing start up towards turn 4, you would then also have had a main straight so you could wind the bike up, and use more than 3 gears.

its just feedback so dont take it the wrong way, i just wish i had a 4 stoke  i reackon that would have been a perfect track for that kind of braking.

Was there a fence or somthing between us and that next paddock ? what would have been really great would have been to pick up on that undulating hills.

Still credit to you all was a great weekend :O)

VMX247, in the rules and spirit of vmx wtf is training got to do with it??

The Rules are as follows:

Owners of any exotica ie CCM, HC, Mettises, Cheney etc shall be penalised by 100m.

If you have ever won any title go back 200m, actually if you have ever won a race you can go back too.

If you have done any of the following in the off season go back 50m; gone to the gym; jogged; exercised; not eaten Maca’s, KFC or Burger King; changed the TV by hand

If you have washed and serviced your bike after the last race of last season, go back 20m.

If you have given up alcohol or smokes go back 50m for each.

If you weigh over 90kg advance 50m, for every additional 10kg’s advance another 20m.

If you ride a Bultaco advance 50m.

If you have finished rebuilding your bike at 6.00am on Race Day advance 50m.

If you have drunk a six pack the Saturday night before Race Day advance 50m, with an additional 10m for every stubby over the six pack

If you weigh over 100kg and break rules 2, 3, 4 and 5 you may ride your open class bike in with the 125’s.

Beautiful looking dirt! deep brown, lined with rich green grass.
I must visit Tassie one day, with or without the bikes!

Best week off that i have had in a long time.

I could not ride due to an injury  earlier in the year ,so i went over to Tassie on the ship with a mate who could ride and had a thoroughly good time. Our wives flew over to meet us and also enjoyed the trip.

It was by far the Best and most organised meeting i have been to in a long time.

Great catering at the track complete with real coffee van.

The presentation dinner was absolutley fantastic with buses organised to pick-up and return you from the venue.(nice touch)

The races were well contested by all involved and it was sensational to see alot of the bikes ridden by young guy's.(very fast young guy's)

Old Boagy was punty around on his CZ's and picked up a swag of trophies.

Great turn up by the West Aussies. They came along way , Well done and fine effort.

Congratulations to the Tassie Club .

Bring on the 2009 Nats and all being fair and reasonable i look forward to racing.

Cheers Shoey

All righty, no sub-arctic conditions on the Sunshine Coast - so camping should be a goer.

So what's the consenus? Whats the conondale track like?

http://www.ozvmx.com/events/heaven_r2_08.htm

Looks flat enough to be VMX friendly, but hard packed and a grease pit in the wet???

Conondale is a brilliant natural terrain grass track with a couple of hills and is only used 3 or 4 times a year so the grass usually grows back between events. We raced there in the 70's and the track is pretty much the same so i guess that makes it vintage friendly. It's always watered and prepared very well and not too greasy in the wet. I think it will be perfect.

ah,conondale, not canondale,no wonder google earth could not help me.
1600 km from melbourne

let me see 1600 x 2 = 3200 km divided by 5 = 640 litres x $2 per litre =$1280 shared between six =$240
+ boat fare for vehicle divided by six + air fares=
                                              AFFORDABLE
Now all I have to do is put an application into the minister for finances ;)

conondale?
about a liesurely 2hr or less drive north of brisbane and then west a tad. between Malaney and Kenilworth.
some nice elevation changes are possible depending on what track layout they will use.
the good news is that even on a bad day, conondale is perfect.

Thanks to Hubby's expert advice( so if any photos are in the wrong album, you can blame him! :D ) we broke the photos down in catergories like Pre 75 (which is in two parts) Pre 85 etc.  Now all I have to do is reduce them in size and upload.  Not long to go now.   Thankyou for your patience and anticipation.

I've come a fair way I think in the last 12 months.  It was Fatboy's encouragement that went a long way.  Thankyou  :)

Hey Rossco, there was someone from VMX Magazine.  I spoke to him and there will be something in the next issue.  I have reserved a few of my images because I have sent them to the magazine, fingers crossed a couple will appear ???  If they don't I will post them in their own album.  Speaking of posting, there is three albums up.  More to follow.  Hope there is something there that people can take a look at.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from Australia Zoo and the Glasshouse Mountains...and the Big Pineapple.
It's in that general area and all tourist maps of Qlds Sunshine Coast include these places.

Thankyou Gorby  :)  I have just finished numbering the last album, next project is a DVD if people are still interested ???  I hope that there is something amongst the photos there.

Received a little note tonight from VMX Magazine and some of my photos are going to be used with the report from Tassie!  ;D  Topping of our weekend.  After the story is published, I'll release the photos to an album of their own.  Let you know when.

Please feel free to take a look at the pics http://picasaweb.google.com/scrampics (http://picasaweb.google.com/scrampics)

Yes, we intend to run the Nationals story in issue #35.  Issue #34 was finished and already at the printer when the nationals stuff became available, so it missed the boat.  :'(

CD5 is in issue #34 though... ;)  Hopefully it will be mailed out to subscribers next week sometime.

As from the Tasmanian "Mercury Paper" one 211 as i quote  "flag mashall" extrodinaire

Pity the Paper wasnt clear enough to see the RED light district  T - shirt he was wearing just to lift his image, but alas still a good picture.

the Mercury did a full colour centre spead and was good coverage.

still i think this pic could take a pounding in a thread for "add a comment"

i was thinking of somthing like  " the world ends in 30 seconds, hear me as i speak the truth "

I ran into a gent at the Nationals (Andrew I think) who had a lovely MX 250 that sounded sweet as.  Anyway he was chasing carby manifolds etc.  Andrew the web site I was thinking of was www.sudco.com - huge supplier in the States.  Hope this helps.

We had a tally up of the cost of the recent nationals and it looks like we will end up in the black ;D

Not by much but it was great to have it all work out for the best.

At least this time we were in control of the purse strings and could pay all our suppliers straight away.

All our thanks go out to all the competitors and other clubs and sites like this one that helped make it
such a successful and memorable event.

Gorby is the layout finacially available any where in some kind or report ? it would be good to browse the costing if you where another club to see where things could be factored in for no surprises or enven to see what areas need to be covered.

A benchmark is always good for those looking to host a similar event.

it can be very broad.  sometime people dont think that it cost 10's of thousands to get these things up and running and soime kind of yard stick might prepare the to make more solid proposals and thus keep developing the VMX seen by having consecutive strong events that pay for themselves.

just a thought

Ladies and Gents - finally got a chance to sit down and download the photos my young fella took at the Nationals.  Not too much of a range because he wasn't old enough to go out on the track and was sick on the Sunday but some good shots nevertheless.  He are a couple and the link to some I have uploaded to Village Photos - these are also low res but have the high res ones if anyone wants one - maybe a few bucks for the young fella if you are interesed?

cheers
